Atari800Win PLus v4.0 Beta

posted in Emulator Release by narvick on Feb 4th, 2004

This is actually the third v4.0 beta for this 8-bit Atari emulator, but the last official release (v3.1) was November of '02, so it's been awhile. It's based on the sources of Atari800 and Atari800Win. Here's a summary of what's new:
    Added:
  • A new method of getting video synchronization with monitor's refresh rate of 100/120 Hz has been introduced

  • Changed:
  • The minimum height of the status bar is set to a value that makes the state indicators look better when small fonts are used in the Windows environment
  • The new sound engine is not reinitialized every time the sound options are changed. This prevents the sound from getting noisy in some places
  • Some GUI changes for new Atari800 kernel features

  • Fixed:
  • A nasty bug causing fatal crash of the emulator after selecting Misc/Convert/ROM to CART has been fixed
  • Fixed incorrect behavior of the emulator when switching between PAL and NTSC video modes without rebooting the emulated Atari
  • "Keysticks" and the emulated Atari keyboard should not be locked anymore after pressing the Alt key
  • Fixed some problems with switching to full screen modes

  • User-Visible Changes Introduced by New Atari800 Kernel:
  • Cycle-exact emulation upgrade
  • Newhigh-quality POKEY sound emulation
  • H: emulation enhancements
  • Cassette handling improved
Consult the help file for a more detailed look at what's new, especially under the visible improvements because of the kernel. It's noted that this version may have some flaws relating to the GUI under Windows ME/2000/XP
