Sega - Saturn Emulators

<< Go to Windows systems list

Name Description
A-SATURN This Saturn emulator emulates 99% of the main CPUs and various percents of the other chips. It doesn't run any games however.
Cassini Cassini is a new Saturn emulator for Windows that now has a slew of controversy around it. There are claims from many sides about the legality of it and many sides concerning simply the morality and ethics involved. It is a hacked version of GiriGiri. Until this emulator has been deemed illegal, we'll provide a download. Not sure how long that might be, so you may want to get it now. As with all Saturn emulators, a Saturn BIOS is needed.
GiriGiri GiriGiri is a Sega Saturn emulator for Windows, developed by Japanese programmer Shinya "MegaDeath" Miyamoto. Initially a freeware program that worked only with the Japanese version of Windows 98, the developer released "debugger" beta versions up until 0.6a in early 2001. Debugger version 0.9 and the full GiriGiri Saturn emulator were announced, but never released. Instead, Sega hired the developer behind the project and bought the software to run downloadable Sega Saturn titles on the online Cyber Disc/B-Club service. The service was short-lived, closing in March 2004.

The emulator was later hacked by Gavionne to improve compatibility, and released as GiriGiri Gav. Another version (0.7.7 beta) was released by MiC with a new loader program.
Hyperion Hyperion is a discontinued emulator that can only display the Saturn menus and the Saturn CD Player.
PC-Saturn PC-Saturn is another Saturn emulator that was discontinued before doing much.
Project Titan This emulator is quite primitive and really isn't useful for much. It's open source though, so you can look at that if you wish.
Sat'On'Em This was a close competitor with A-Saturn, but has been discontinued. Sat'On'Em emulates 89% of both the CPUs, and it fully emulates the memory.
Satan Althogh Satan is nothing more than a Saturn CD header reader, this was the first legitimate Saturn emulator ever to come into existence. Coded by Nakasaki, this emulator has its own install program. It doesn't emulate anything, but can read CD info such as the Virtual Fighter Remix CD.
Satourne This emulator has come a long way, and plays a few games. Definitely give it a try!
Saturnin Saturnin is developed by Runik and is one of the major Saturn emulators out there. It can play some commercial Saturn Roms.
SSE SSE is a Sega Saturn and ST-V emulator that appeared out of nowhere after a year of development and can play several games. Give it a try and visit its official page for more in depth info.
SSEmu This was the first Sega Saturn emulator to actually emulate something. It emulates the Saturn Control Unit (SCU), all three Hitachi processors (partially), and music is emulated (CD-Audio). It has been discontinued, however.
SSF SSF is a Windows-based emulator of the Sega Saturn and Sega Titan Video (ST-V, an arcade board very similar to the Saturn). Despite the historical difficulty of emulating the Saturn's rather idiosyncratic and complex architecture, and the fact that SSF is developed by a sole developer (Shima), it has overtaken other Saturn emulators to the point of being able to run the majority of games with few to no issues. It is designed to run game CDs directly, so images must be mounted with a virtual drive program (e.g. Daemon Tools) in order to be played.
UltraSat UltraSat can't play any games, but can read the copyright information from 15 different games. It has been discontinued.
Yabause Yabause is a Sega Saturn emulator under GNU GPL. It currently runs on FreeBSD, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Dreamcast, and Wii.

Yabause support booting games using Saturn cds or iso files.
