Dragon Eye Studios mass release!

Dragon Eye Studios just announced the release of a plethora of new ROM Hacks, level editors, utilities, and NSFs. It is one of the biggest single-day releases in the history of the ROM Hacking scene, so there is much to report.

First of all, they have released three new hacks, one for the NES and two for the SNES:
  • Boulder Dash Greed - Boulder Dash (NES)
  • Bust-M-Up - Bust-A-Move (SNES)
These two are basically complete level rehauls and can be thought of as extensions on the pre-existing games. You can pick the NES hack up at the NES Hacks section and the other in the SNES Hacks section.

One of the most impressive things about this latest DES release is the number of level editors being offered. The following are new editors (on ZD, anyway) available as of today:
  • Quarrel- Battle City
  • Carrot- Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
  • Stake- Castlevania 1
  • Nephi- Zelda: Link's Awakening
  • Hat Trick- Snoopy's Magic Show
  • Demolition- Wrecking Crew
In addition, some older editors have been updated:
  • Quarry- Boulder Dash
  • Shampoo- Bust-A-Move
You can pick up all of these on the Facelifting Utilities page.

Two other utilities were released today, one of which is the latest version of Sappy, the GBA music player. I'll report this in a separate post because the list of changes is long. The other utility release was TSA (Tile Squaroid Assembly) Editor for the NES called UniTSA. It supports wide range of formats, so tile editing in the NES is greatly simplified. You can get this at the NES Utilities page.

The last thing I'll report here is the release of a new ROM Hacking document by Vagla. It goes into a great deal of detail on the intricacies of ROM Hacking for the NES and even includes a dictionary of terms at the end. This is definitely worth checking out, particularly for newbies. You can find it on the NES Technical Documents page.

Although there were also NSFs released by DES today, I will leave the compilation and reporting of this to Narvick, as he is in charge of the archives.
