Microsoft - MSX Emulators
|blueMSX||The blueMSX MSX emulator has established itself as the most advanced and feature rich MSX emulator. It supports most common machines and a wide variety of extension hardware. A feature rich debugger is also included in the emulator. The MSX emulation has been extended and support for other systems have been added. blueMSX is now also an SVI emulator, and supports the ColecoVision and Sega SG-1000, SC-3000, SF-7000 consoles.|
|openMSX||openMSX is an emulator for the MSX home computer system. Its goal is to emulate all aspects of the MSX with 100% accuracy: perfection in emulation.|
|BRMSX||This is a Brazilian MSX-2 emulator. It's probably one of the fastest around. It works quite well on a 386-based machine. It's even got the possibility to link two PCs together to play multi player games (for example Salamander) It's also very stable. It's still under development, but it looks very good. It features some SCC sound aswell, and has a very advanced PSG emulation. Even the games with sound samples work the way they should!
This is the officially released source code for version 2.06 of BrMSX.
This is the lite download on BrMSX. Includes the executable, and the two MSX2 ROMs.
|CJS MSX Emulator||This is a fast emulator which was designed to run on any 386 or higher. It has not been updated in a while, however it has sound and basically emulates the MSX quite well. It's definitly worth the download for any MSX fan.|
|fMSX||fMSX is a program that emulates MSX, MSX2, and MSX2+ home computers. It runs the majority of MSX software and mimics most popular hardware extensions, such as SCC, OPLL, etc.|
|fMSX FAN||MSX emulator that supports MSX 1,2, and 2+.|
|fMSX SO||This emulator has MSX, MSX2, and MSX 2+ support. It is aiming for perfect OPLL emulation.|
|fMSX-SDL||This is an SDL (Simple Direct Media Library) port of Marat Fayzullin's fMSX emulator. The difference between this and paraMSX (the Windows port of fMSX) is this includes MSX-MUSIC and it's the first MSX emulator which includes MSX-AUDIO emulation. fMSX-SDL also supports high resolution (with scanlines).|
|meisei||meisei is a freeware open-source MSX emulator derived from Sega Li for Microsoft Windows.
Last release: 2008-11-23
|MSKISS||This emulator is coded entirely in DJGPP C. It's not very fast, but it runs basic 16/32KB images as well as konami MSX-1 roms, ASCII 8KB, ASCII 16KB and original FM PAC. It also supports .DSK files (disk images). It only has sound support for GUS cards. It's not the best MSX emulator there is, nor the fastest, but here it is for your downloading.|
|MSX Emulator||This emulator has MSX-1 support. It is designed to run on the AtariST.|
|MSXPLAYer||MSXPLAYer is an official, commercial MSX emulator created by Bazix developers, released by Stichting Sunrise and the MSX Association. It comes with the MSX GameReader.
It plays all but 3 games (FAC demo 5, Sphere, and Magoo's Verticle Sync demo), but has many small glitches with other games. Only ~1/3rd of audio is emulated. The program is completely in Japanese and has very little in the way of configuration: no controller config, no video enhancement options, and no screenshot or savestate support. Also, copies of the emulator are given with MSX GameReaders, and as such it doesn't read disk images: you either need to use real disks or mount images in a virtual floppy disk. It's recommended to use blueMSX over this.
Surprisingly, according to the Japanese Wikipedia page for MSXPLAYer, this emulator was based on the fMSX emulator.
|NLMSX||Based on the Z80 emulation of fMSX, this emu features command line parameters, ROM and disk images, multiple MSX/MSX2/MSX2+ configurations, PSG, FM-PAC, multiple SCC/SCC+ combinations, MSXDOS 2 carts, Konami MEGAROM carts, ASCII MEGAROM carts, Kanji, full color in MSX2+ screens, full screen mode, horizontal scrolling screens and line interrupts. Does a nice smooth job on the emulation.|
|no$msx||No$msx is a MSX1 + MSX2 emulator for DOS and Windows, like the other no$-emulators it's including a comfortable debugger, so that it's more a serious development tool than just a emulator. Beside for the development part, the most important goals are: User-friendly GUI and lots of options, and the complete lack of overload - the program is written in raw assembler language, sized about 150 KBytes, and works fine on 33MHz computers.|
|ParaMSX||This Windows port of fMSX packs a lot of features coming out of the starting gate and looks to be an emulator to watch out for.|
|Power MSX||Power MSX is a MSX emulator that runs on DOS and emulates a MSX1. It emulates tapes and drives also. It runs on VESA2 with linear frame buffer or VGA and a Sound Blaster.|
|RedMSX||This is an MSX emulator by SLotman based off blueMSX which adds a couple more features including the loading of zipped ROMs and Scale2x mode|
|RuMSX||This is the newest MSX emulator. It has a nice GUI, and the compatibility rate is only a little less than that of fMSX. It currently emulates the MSX, MSX2, MSX2+, and Turbo-R. It will emulate the mouse and MSX audio in the future. This is one of the best MSX emulators available and it's worth the download. You probably just want the Install package.|
|Virtual MSX||With sound, joystick emulation, and the fact that this 32 bit assembly written emulator runs most games make it a good choice for a good MSX emulator. It comes with its own install program.
This project has been discontinued.
|WOOM!||WOOM stands for Windows Object Oriented MSX. It is written in pure Object Orientation and doesn't worry about speed at all, so you will need a fast computer to run it. The goal is to create a perfect emulator by keeping the code clean. It currently supports MSX1 and MSX2, and runs all MegaROMs fine.|
|Zodiac||This emulator and its website are in Japanese, so here's a rough translation of what Zodiac can do: Z80 CPU core is done, V9938/V9958 emulation is done, and YM2413 (sound) is done. It's also coded under the GPL, so the source is available.|
