Zelda 2 Challenge: Link's Shadow is a freeware, not-for-profit new "edition" of the classic NES game The Adventurer Link in an ips format. The levels and overworld are changed using Dwedit's great utilities. These are really great programs, and getting better as I write, I'm sure. ^^ Check him out, you may want to do a Zelda2 hack of your own. The graphics have been hacked with Tile Layer and Nesticle, and the text has thus far been done with Thingy.

This file is a patch and is in .exe format ONLY. Apply the patch to a copy of Zelda 2. No more Snestool required!

Can confirm that the patch is an exe (executable), however, you can also drop the exe into a Hex Editor and delete everything before PATCH, then rename the file extension from .exe to .ips in order to extract the IPS patch from the exe.
Doing this sometimes bugs (at least on my system), resulting in a 5 mb romhack: If this happens, delete everything (all the zeros) after address 0x$40010.
This hack is compatible with other Zelda II Gameplay improvement patches (like, for example, if you want to convert this Challenge into something more palatable for your skill level).
