Baryn says:
I have had a good experience with SSF, playing Panzer Dragoon Saga perfectly, but the performance is not as tight as the popular N64 and PSone emulators.

_Spekkio_ says:
This is the most complete Sega Saturn emulator there is atm. All it needs is a fast machine.

mustangemu says:
works good with daemon tools and imageburn, finally the scanlines work in full screen on a widescreen monitor. yes! starfighter looks as good on pc as the saturn.

Taz says:
Any reason why i shouldnt upgrade?

majinsnake says:
this has to be the emulator that can FULLY support most saturn games. Guardian heroes runs 85% at best.

Satourne looked like it was coming along well, but the team stopped updating it. Yabause is slowly coming along.

MarioPlayer90 says:
Damn, I can't play games cause it does not open "Open CD" and I have the BIOS but still can't work.

cww80 says:
Out of this world! Only needs to add high res options, with other enhancements and would be perfect. Can't forget about direct image loading.

Thanks!

There are a few things people might want to realize about the Sega Saturn when it comes to emulation:

- There are 3 CPUs, 2 RAM bays and 1 3D processor to emulate - if you ever wanted to know which system was more powerful PSX or SAT that should answer it for you :)

- Thanks to all those components it makes creating an emulator to play Saturn games A NIGHTMARE. So much so, that in the late 1990s when emulation was the new hot-ticket thing Sega had a standing offer that if the Saturn could be emulated 100% you'd get a job on their home-conversion team! (Which is dead now...) That's because most of the programmers at Sega had a hard time with the hardware, honestly.

- The original Saturn was a RAM hog that makes Windows Vista look petite. The system, as a result, could reach a case temp of 95*F. Having played with it a little (I own a Saturn in every region-coding: US, EUR/AUS, JP) I can safely say that a 256MB video card or better is the only way you're playing Fighters Megamix, any Panzer Dragoon or Virtua Fighter 2 without lagging the system in addition to a minimum of 1 gig of RAM. I've seen Xbox emulators that need less...

- This thing has taken over a DECADE to reach this level of completion. By the time it's at 100% the PS3/X360/The Toy generation will have already passed.

- I will NEVER encourage obtaining a game a person does not own - ever - but people should know that Sega has no source code for any of the Saturn games. They're all lost or destroyed during the "Black Age" of the Dreamcast's death and some even before that. Also - Working Designs demise has left the back catalog of games they made or translated for the US version of the Saturn genuine "Abandonware". No owner exists anymore and they're only a few years from entering public domain... Which kind of makes me want to cry, now... Jesus, I'm old...

- Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei will make your video card cry. Seriously. Dry ice on the case might help a little...

ssf is one of the best saturn emulators out there, it plays cd's and iso files perfectly, most games run full speed with sound, games like sonic jam, sonic r run really well.

Rob says:
Just got v0.10 Alpha R4. Works like a charm! Relieved after all the crashing/freezing I was getting with the other popular saturn emulators. I highly recommend this if you're having problems with the others.
