Name Description
BRSMS This is a Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator. It runs full speed on a 486 DX-66, and has sound emulated, including voice support. Most games are playable, although a few still do not work correctly. It even has serial cable support! It's definitely worth a download for those with slow computers, as well as those who want a great SMS/GG emulator which does not cost any money.
Calypso Here's the newest of the SMS/GG emulators, and this one (while it doesn't look like much now) has high hopes. The author wants it to become a multi-emulator for all Sega systems in existance. Currently, it has relatively low compatibility, some sound support, and uses the RAZE Z80 engine. Give it a try.
CHASMS This fairly recent emulator, coded by the author of the Verge RPG-creation engine, is a promising new SMS/GG emulator with a GUI that resembles the old NESticle GUI. While it's nowhere as good as MEKA yet, it has a number of features that MEKA doesn't have, such as a Pro Action Replay cheat finder. This looks to be one of the better emulators available. Pick it up.
Cogwheel A software emulator primarily for 8-bit Sega hardware, such as the Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear and SG-1000. The ColecoVision is also supported.
The project uses a modular design based around a Z80 core emulator class library. The rest of the Sega-specific emulation is implemented in another class library, and the user interface is implemented as a separate application. This would allow the main emulator to be easily adapted to different interfaces.

The code is written in C#3 (targetting .NET 2.0). The user interface uses Windows Forms, with SlimDX being used to render the graphical output to the form as quickly as possible.

MasterGear The DOS version of Mastergear was last updated over two years ago, and as such is nowhere near the performance level that the current Windows version is. Masterlator Masterlator is a Master System & Game Gear emulator project started from scratch in December 2001. Since it is written completely in ANSI C, it needs at least a Pentium II class PC to run smoothly, but it is highly portable across operating systems and processors.
MesaDX This Sega Master System, Game Gear, and Sega Mark III emulator is very good. It's been around for quite awhile now, so give it a try.

Saya RX-SMS This is a brand new SMS emulator by Kilgamma encoded entirely in OBJ Pascal and compiled with Delphi. It is still in development.
SegaG3 These two emulators are part of a series of japanese *fan98 emulators. They are both for Windows, with SMSFAN98 and GGFan Plus emulating the Sega Master System and GameGear respectively. They are both pretty fast, and should run full speed on a P133. They both have sound support, and I *think* the ability to log MIDIs is included. However, both are shareware, have directional controls disabled, and cost 2000 yen to register. I know nothing else about these emulators, anyone able to translate the documentation, please e-mail me.English documentation is available, courtesy of Issy.
SMaSher This is a new Windows emulator by the same person who brought you the Genesis emulator, Xega. It is still in a relatively primitive state, but it looks promising.
SMS PlusSMS Plus/SDL This is one of the newer Sega Master System/Game Gear emulators around. It runs full speed on any Pentium class machine, and has FM sound support. It has a lower compatibility rate than Massage, but it's still worth checking out for anyone who wants an alternative to Massage. Code rewritten completely for version 0.9.
