Emulator Release: BrSMS 1.11 news by zophar
19:38:  A new release of BrSMS, the fastest Sega Master System emulator for DOS, is now available. Lots of changes in BrSMS 1.11:

- Support to PSG white noise (try to play "Afterburner"!!)
- Fixed a minor bug in the background renderer, this bug only happened when you started BrSMS after playing Nesticle (!?!)
- All the sprite renderer was rewritten from scratch, the new version is 100% faster than the previous. It also fix some graphics bugs, like the score of "Pacmania", the logo of "Sonic 2", the janken match of "Aled Kidd" and the power selector of "Psychic World".
- Added a new MMX sprite renderer (use the switch "-mmx"). This renderer is 80% faster than the normal one (yes, this means 180% faster than the previous version).
- Added five new custom Z80 emulators, they are 50% to 300% faster than the default, depending on the game (sometimes even more than that!)
- Added a preliminary video cache, this made the background renderer 100% faster than before. You can disable the video cache with the switch "-nocache", but so far I didn't found any game with cache problems.
- TURBO mode is even faster than before (even on a 486sx33 the emulation is faster than a real Master System!)

You can download BrSMS 1.11 from the Sega Master System & GameGear page.

Please also post that this will be a learning experience for me and there will probably not be an alpha, beta, test or whatever you want to call it released any time soon.

My email address is lorsua@fcmail.com

- New interface.

Site News: Nitro has been removed news by zophar
23:35:  This has never happened before in the 20 month history of Zophar's Domain, but after over a month of no updates, no e-mails letting me know what was going on, and a general lack of caring, Nitro, the former FAQ and Shrines main tainer, has been removed from the ZD staff. I will also be removing another staff member soon if that person doesn't let me know what is going on.

Site News: VGB 0.8b source code removed news by zophar
23:28:  As many of you may know, the source code to VGB-DOS was released about 2 years ago by Marat Fayzullin and Marcel De Kogel (the DOS porter). I received an e-mail from Marat recently, informing me that it's no longer distributabl e, and asked that it be removed. I don't really know much about copyrights as far as released source code goes but I removed it anyway.

Utility News: UNIROM 0.50 news by bnu
16:38:  Yeah! UNIROM 0.50 has been released! Aren't you just jumping around thinking 'Yes, yes, yes, yes!'? Probably not :) That's because ther has been some problems with loading files in earlier releases, but that has now been Fix ed! I have now added an easy-to-use File Requester. And for everyone who doesn't know what a file requester is, it's kinda like a dialog box that you choose a file from. All problems when loading files should now be totally eliminated! I also spiffed it up a bit by adding some colors. Go get it from the (New Revamped) UNIROM Homepage or from the Translation utilities page.

As usual I want FEEDBACK! :) So let's mail me now! I've still received kind of a small amount of letters, but maybe the situation will improve as this little proggy grows better.

Mail me on klass9.v@jokkmokk.se with questions, comments, complaints, ideas and other stuff!

Emulator Release: Z26 1.08 news by zophar
21:30:  John Seigar has released a new version of his Atari 2600 emulator for DOS, Z26. Many more games now work in this major new release:

- New games including: stargate.bin (8K), defendr2.bin (8K), beamride.bin, radarlok.bin, sprfootb.bin, and humancan.bin (AKA human_cb.bin).
- Support for Parker Brothers cartridge format. This gives us: dethstar.bin, gyruss.bin, sprcobra.bin, tutank.bin, popeye.bin, swarcade.bin, qbrtqube.bin, frogger2.bin, montzrev.bin, docastle.bin, and toothpro.bin.
- Support for TigerVision cartridge format. This gives us riverp.bin and polaris.bin. Other TigerVision games jitter. I'll look into that later...
- Improved games include: oystr29.bin, spcinvad.bin, spaceinv.bin, and congbong.bin.
- We now have variable game speed with the -r command line switch (see readme.txt). This is to provide an alternate speed control method for those systems that the default monitor synchronization doesn't work, and also to allow game play at other frame rates. I think some games were designed to run at 50 frames per second instead of the usual 60.

You can download Z26 1.08 from the Atari 2600 page.

Emulator Release: XCopilot 0.6.4 news by total
21:20:  Hello.. I added a new section to the unix part of ZD. It will feature emulators for the handheld computer PalmPilot, and the first emulator to get on that page is XCopilot, a complete hardware emulator for the PalmPilot. It requires a ROM image from a PalmPilot to work tho. But you can snag it from the PalmPilot using the Pilot-Link package.

Get this thingy at The PalmPilot Emulators for Unix Page

Misc. News: Sega CD emulation news news by zophar
17:25:  I received the following e-mail from Eidolon regarding Sega CD emulation:

Today, I finished a huge update of the Sega CD section of my site (http://homepage.psp.net/cschiller/scd.htm). I have added two new documents which will prove to be very helpful for everyone who attempts to emulate the system. These documents are the US patents for the Sega CD device and for the CD country protection routines. Though these documents are rather non-specific (in terms of giving concrete memory addresses of the various functions), they describe the inner workings of the Sega CD very precisely. I have commented the documents where I think it was necessary or helpful. With these two documents now available, it should be a LOT easier to reverse-engineer some games in order to write an emulator, because now you actually KNOW what the various code routines of the games are supposed to do according to the patents. Feel free to mail me your comments or post them on my message board (http://free.prohosting.com/~eidolon/wwwb/wwwboard.html).

With these new documents, the already-available BIOS files and of course talented programmers, Sega CD emulation is now within reach!

You should check out his site if you're interested in emulating the Sega CD.

Misc. News: www.Snes9x.com Hacked news by infe

Emulator News: PSyKe news! news by bnu
17:23:  And boy is it big news! CDROM emulation is now working in Psyke, the new, fast and cool Playstation emulator! If you don't call this good I don't know what you'd call it! No new version has been released yet, but you can still go to the PSyKe homepage and feast your eyes on the amazing pictures from this amazing emulator!

Misc. News: nEMU Closes news by inverse
16:02:  Well, the idiots have done it again. First Emucamp is closed due to Simplenet's ignorant belief in the gospel according to the IDSA. Then EmuViews is almost brought down due to it's own server's ignorance. But this one hurts th e most.

It is with great sadness that I announce that nEMU is no more. Due to his disgust with the emulation scene in general, [_nIRV_] has seen fit to close nEMU. For those of you that think it's no big deal, you don't realize how many news updates were culled f rom nEMU for ZD, how many times [_nIRV_] selflessly shared info with me even before posting it on his own site.

Out of respect for [_nIRV_] and the passing of nEMU, I will be doing no more updates to ZD for the rest of the day and I urge the other staff to do so as well.

Go read [_nIRV_]'s farewell and the truth about SNES9X

Site News: I'm back news by zophar
17:56:  Sorry that I haven't updated in a few days, I've been working a lot since I got my new full time job. Anyways, a lot has been going on, concerning the message boards mostly. Rest assured that there's just some...technical probl ems of sorts. The message boards work fine, but some posts were deleted that should not have been deleted. This "problem" should be cleared up after I have a little chat with someone...

Anyways, enjoy the rest of your day.

Misc. News: You Need To Read This news by inverse
12:08:  I wasn't going to do anymore updates today, in fact, this will probably be the very last update you ever see from me, but I felt this was important enough to say a few words about.

AWJ originally posted this on ZMD, but after reading it, I felt it should be mentioned here as well, so that anyone that reads the news page but not the WWW Boards would learn of it as well.

There's not a whole lot to say, I'm still in a state of deep contemplation after reading the story The Right To Read by Richard Stallman. Drop everything you're doing. Forget about whatever e lse might be on your mind and go read this story right now.

Emulator Release: Unix Virtual Gameboy 1.1 news by inverse
11:29:  Marat Fayzullin has released a new version of Virtual Gameboy. The Windows version is still shareware, so only the people that spent $35 to register VGBWin will get the new update. There's not even a demo of the new version as of yet. It's capitalistic bastards like this that give emulation a bad name. Anywayz, the unix ports are freeware for the time being, so here's what's new:

Fixed a bug in saving battery-backed RAM which prevented large (32kB)
RAMs from being saved (PocketMonsters, etc.)
Added autofire and GameGenie keyboard controls to VGB-Unix
Fixed a bug in support for 8MBit ROMs
Fixed a bug which prevented Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy Adventure, and Snow Brothers Jr from working properly
VGB-Windows no longer depends on WinG

Download the Linux Port from ZD or go to the VGB Homepage to get releases for other Unix flavors.

Please note that the opinions expressed in this update are mine and mine only. If you have a problem with them, take 'em up with me, don't bother Zophar about them.

Misc. News: Vivid Barrier Escapades news by inverse
17:24:  Anyone that ordered a DR PC Jr or any other copier from Vivid Barrier can start counting your losses. It seems he not only ripped everyone off, he took the money and ran away from home. You can read more on the story on NES Wor ld's What's New Page.

Emulator Release: NLKE .02b news by inverse
16:04:  NLKE, the result of a combination of ESNES and NLKSNES, has be updated to version .02b. Here's the improvements:

- Added add/sub screen support. It is incomplete and NOToptimizated, don't sprites, mode 7 and other effects supported.(Try gfxmode 4 to see it)
- Every command line is tested to see if the sintaxis is correct.
- Fixed the autoframe rate support. (some ideas from Archeide)
- Dinamy memory allocate.
- Support to stereo sound, using 16 sound channels.
- Added a alternative path to load files. It can be selected in the configure file. (nlke.cfg)
- Added a GUI with windows. Two new options has been added to the configure file to activate/desactivate the GUI, and to change the resolution on the GUI. (640x480 or 400x300)
- Added two gfxmodes with scanlines, gfxmode 5 (256x256) andgfxmode 6 (640x480).
- Found and fixed a large number of bugs in the 65816, spc700, sound DSP, PPU, and HDMA, far too many to list here. (yeah again ;-)

You can always download NLKE from the SNES Emulators page or for the time being, by downloading it here.

Emulator Release: SNES9X Ported to N64 news by inverse
10:40:  That's right, it's not a typo or a joke, SNES9X has been ported to N64. The current alpha release is still very slow, so don't expect to be playing SNES games at full speed on your N64. But I'd rather play any SNES game at 1/20 th normal speed than play the best N64 games at full speed. Of course I'd rather play with myself before playing either SNES or N64, but anywayz, you can download SNES9X for N64 at this link until we decide whether or not to add an "Emulators for N64" section. And to stop the flood of lamers asking how to use it on the message boards, you have to have an N64 copier.

7/13/98
Misc. News: A few items of note... news by inverse
17:09:  First of all, Secain asked me to let everyone know that he's experiencing some server problems at the SNES Emulation Centre. Some files are missing and he can't upload anything new, but he promises to have everything back together ASAP. For those of you that don't know, the SEC features all types of SNES emulation related items, such as news, technical documents, utilities, save states and, of course, emulators. It also features an on-line multi-player Java version of Zelda. You can visit the SEC at http://www.snes9x.com/sec

Secondly, for those of you that actually believed that N64 Ultimate was a real emulator, then you're an idiot. It doesn't even run Fire Demo, let alone "all N64 games", it simply gives you a "Your system doesn't meet the requirements..blah blah" message, even when ran on a computer far better than their specified 266 Mhz. While it doesn't appear to be a virus, there's no telling if it's a trojan or a logic bomb, yet. So if anybody gets their computer fuxored by the emu, it serves 'em right for downloading an N64 emu that was only released on a Xoom page & w/ a Hotmail address. And on a final note, let me state that even if it is a trojan that will destroy your entire computer, that's still better than if it played every single N64 game.

Emulator Release: Atari800Win v2.2 news by inverse
12:21:  The Windows 95 version of Atari800 has been updated to v2.2. Here's what's new:

- A disk indicator is drawn at the bottom right hand corner ofthe display when sector I/O occurs. The small block drawn contains the number of the drive being accessed, and is red for writes, green for reads.
- 5200 controllers work. F5 is reset, Shift-F5 is coldboot, F4 is the start button. Keyboard 0-9 are equivalent to the 5200 controller 0-9 (you can use the keypad if you aren't using it for a joystick). Keypad - or regular * work as the 5200 * key, and keypad - or regular - work as the "#" key. When running in 5200 mode with a joystick triggers 2-4 operate as 5200 triggers 2-4, NOT as function shortcuts like in Atari computer mode. WARNING: At present several 5200 carts fail. This will have to be worked on for a while.
- Found the (atari side) bug that was keeping multiple stick inputs from working. You can now play with at least two sticks; I don't have four to test but that should work as well. I HAVE played a full game of MULE with joystick on one port and keypad on another. It works.
- ModeX was abandoned in favor of simple linear modes at320xXXX resolutions. Some cards will support these modes, some won't - but at least when present they work reliably. If you have "use ModeX for 320 resolutions" set in your DirectDraw control panel you might want to turn it off (default is off).
- Switched back to DirectDrawSurface revision one interfaces, since it's obvious some cards that claim to be DirectDraw 5 compliant are not, and do not support DirectDrawSurface2 or 3. If full screen wasn't working for you, this was probably the reason (and it should work now).
- Shift-ctrl + keycode is sent properly to Atari machine now
- Fixed a potential Windows crash condition when the Atari crashed
- Fixed a bug that could cause some cartridge options to not be saved out.
- DirectDraw mode transitions are a little smoother (one screen size to other)
- Sound is not restarted on mode changes, but it will still get a little garbled (unavoidable).
- Various small tweaks and refinements.
- Source code released (this doesn't imply it is done).

You can download Atari800Win v2.2 and it's source from the Atari 8-Bit emulators page.

Emulator News: More on Snes9x news by zophar
12:01:  Just to clear up a few things that [NOAM] forgot to mention about the new release of Snes9x:

- The version that was released, 1.05, was the DOS version without the GUI.
- The source code was also released this morning, and can be downloaded from the SNES page.
- SunOS, Linux, and other versions of Snes9x were also released, and will be uploaded and updated on the SNES Unix page when Total gets off his lazy butt and does the update :)

That's all.

Emulator Release: Snes9X 1.05 Released news by [noam]
11:23:  Yes a new version of Snes9x has been released. Since there's been many non-public versions since last we saw (1.00a), I'll list everything that's new since then.

1.05
- The master volumn disable code was looking that the wrong variable!
- Fixed crash bug in newer sound code if a ROM tried to start a sample
playing who's data went past the end of SPC700 memory. (Cannon Fodder)
1.04
- Fixed DSP1 ROM header detection bug.
- More DSP1 work; still nothing works, although I know the multiply command
is correct because I've compared the results against a real DSP1.
1.03
- Oops, the multi-player 5 disable code change broke the multi-player 5 being the default controller.
- Implemented the colour window on the main screen - now Zelda's oval zoom window displays correctly and Krusty's Super Fun House clips the left-most 8 pixels as it does on the real SNES.
- TERRANIGMA didn't like me returning a random value when it attempted to read a channel's the current sample byte.
- Hacked in initial support for mode 7 priority-per-pixel - the priority bit doesn't actually change the priority of the pixel but the two games that I know of that use the feature look OK. (Winter Extreme Skiing and the intro of Tiny Toons Adventures).
- Colour addition/subtraction code now uses RGB565 rather than RGB555 calculations - helps a little with the loss of the bottom bit of SNES colour data.
- DSP1 emulation started - nothing works yet.
1.02
- Switched to adding back drop colour rather than fixed colour when sub-screen addition is enabled but there's nothing on the sub-screen. Uniracers seems to need it. - DISABLED it again. Causes problems for other ROMs and Uniracers itself on later screens .
- Fixed XOR window logic combination mode and area inversion code, now Uniracers works correctly.
- Oops, if colour window and half colour addition/subtraction were both switched on, area outside colour window was still being halved, it shouldn't. Hacky fix at the moment until I implement the correct fix.
- Fixed several bugs with the mosaic effect and 16x16 tiles and a few possible background scroll offset bugs and the mosaic effect.
- Optimised the sound sample generation code for cases when the SNES sample playback frequency was higher than the sound card playback rate.
- Fixed possible click sound when a sample was first started to be played.
1.01
- Corrected scanline count for PAL games - should be 312 lines verses 262 for NTSC. Was causing slow music on PAL games.
- Added error correction code to the SPC700 timer update code - the SPC700 timers are updated using the emulated h-blank handler which is called every emulated 63.6 microseconds (15.720KHz) but the SPC700 timers need to be updated at multiples of 8KHz, hence the error. Was causing music to be played slightly too fast.
- Switched back to using C SPC700 code - the old SPC700 asm code was lacking several optimisations that the C version had. It also had multiple speed hack cycle skipping bugs. Plus I hadn't even finished optimising all the code from the last time I conver ted the C compiler output.
- Optimised SPC700 memory access routines a little.
- Disabled code that prevented ROMs updating SPC700 timer values while the timer was running - it seems like it is allowed, even though docs on the 'net I've seen say its not.

Snag the new Snes9x at the Snes Page.

On a side note, the Snes9x Home page has moved to Snes9x.com. Also, the SNES Emulation Centre has moved to www.snes9x.com/sec.

Misc. News: Emulation Camp problems news by zophar
23:08:  The following post was made on ZMD:

Simplenet has suspended Emulation Camp's account citing that emulators are illegal and all that crap (which they are not of course). Please write to abuse.review@simplenet.com and tell them the truth abou t emulation. Nothing on EmuCamp is illegal; we don't have registered versions of any emulators nor any
commercial ROMs (only freeware and homebrewn). I know many of you dislike Simplenet saying its slow and unresponsive, but thats not the point. The point is that if web services continue to try to close perfectly legal emulation sites, then nothing will re main of our hobby and joy. Even if you don't like Emulation Camp as much as Zophar's or Emu News, please voice your support for not only my site, but the others like it accross the web. Thanks for all your help.

And if you want someone to blame, try this guy: Brad Gula.

We at ZD urge you all to e-mail SimpleNet about this.

Misc. News: 4th of July news by zophar
07:26:  For all of us Americans, it's the 4th of July! That means, for those of us who live in places like Philadelphia, if you haven't already, head down to North Carolina to buy fireworks. Speaking of Philadelphia, one of my friends came across the '20 signs that you are from Philly'. So for people like me, who are from Philly, this should be pretty entertaining:

1 Realize that your favorite desert is wooder ice. (It comes in churry, strawburry, and other assorted flavors)
2. Find yourself using "Yo" and "Youse guys" when talking long distance to family members.
3. You know how to spell Schuylkill.
4. Think $2,500 for insurance on a '79 Toyota is a bargain.
5. Find yourself at a nice restaurant thinking, "This would only be three bucks at a truckstop."
6. Can sleep soundly through gun shots in the neighborhood.
7. Visit New York and notice how clean it is.
8. Believe that the car on your side, flashing its turn signal, wants you to close the gap with the car in front.
9. Can't eat fries without Cheeze Whiz.
10. Find street people greet you by first name.
11. Don't think WaWa sounds funny.
12. You snub a cheesesteak that isn't on an Amoroso roll.
13. Your parents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles all live on the same block.
14. You know who Jim O'Brien is and how he died.
15. You love scrapple for breakfast.
16. You know what Jerry Pennacolli is famous for.
17. Took a vacation at the shore (and liked it).
18. You know where to find the Rocky statue.
19. Only tourists go to Geno and Pats for an authentic cheesesteak unless you are drunk and it is 3am
20. You buy soft pretzels at a traffic light.

Utility News: I need feedback on UNIROM! news by bnu
18:44:  OK, this is the deal. UNIROM is getting better by every release, script dumping has been implemented and I'm working on NES gfx editing. Now only one problem remains. I know that a lot of people don't get UNIROM to work since they're too lazy to check out unirom.ini. The program says: "File not found", so some assume that: "Hey. This sucks." and then they don't even bother to tell me about the problems. I also need suggestions for what to do in the next release! I'm no mastermind that get deviously smart ideas by the passing of seconds. Please. Mail me at klass9.v@jokkmokk.se and tell me about your problems with UNIROM, your projects started with UNIROM, questions about it and suggestions for stuff to be in the next release. Don't mail me about ROMS though, cuz I'll most likely ignore that. By the way, UNIROM was recently updated to 0.45. You might've missed it since Zophar did a really big update and pushed it really far down :).

Check out the UNIROM homepage for information and downloads.

Frontend News: Emulator Runner 3.5 news by bnu
18:31:  The universal frontend Emulator Runner has been updated to version 3.5! It's been a while since the last update, so let's check out what's new:
- External program execution changed a bit. Now Emulator Runner can launch unlimited number of external programs before or after the emulator. Very useful if you need more than one program to be executed (e.g. Univbe, JoyEmu, ...).
- I have added the ability to launch programs after the emulator, because I got bored of the DOS box appeared every time I used Univbe before an emulator, that was asking me to close it by using Ctrl-C. Now I just launch "univbe -u" (uninstall Univbe) after emulator termination and this DOS box never appears. About box has changed. Take a look!

You can get it from the Universal frontends page.

Utility News: Neo*Geo Genie news by inverse
17:52:  This should have been posted days ago, but I was unable to do such do to the server problems we were experiencing.

KiWi / StarLight has releaed the newest version of Neo*Geo Genie, which, as the name suggests, is like a Game Genie for Neo*Geo ROMs. It's a replacement for the BIOS required by all Neo-Geo emulators and allows you to enter cheat codes that can be found b y searching the ROMs memory. It also allows you to bring up games in English, which is a big plus considering no publicly released emulators allow for this option at the present time.

Since I have no experience with Neo*Geo emulation, I suggest consulting the documentation enclosed with the program. it goes into much greater detail. You can download Neo*Geo Genie from the recently created Neo*Geo Utilities se ction.

Site News: Links Page Update news by javagod
19:30:  Finally got the links page updated, added many sites, and re-evaluated the ranking system somewhat (still yet to overhaul it completely). I hope you'll be pleased with this update, as we've added aroun d 20 new sites to our link page, and fixed some previous errors. It would take too long to list them all here, but one site I think you should visit is called The Grey Area, which focuses on some of the greyer areas of emulation as well as news sometimes missed on the big sites (including ZD) - even the background is gray ;D.

If your site wasn't listed, it might have had a problem which forced us to not list it, or it may have just really sucked, or we might have overlooked it too. In any case, don't freak out if you're not listed.
Oh, be sure to visit

when I get it up, you'll like it a lot, I guarantee it.

Emulator Release: A800Win 2.1 news by zophar
03:24:  A800Win, an Atari 8 bit computer emulator for Windows95, has been updated to version 2.1. Here's the list of changes since version 2.0:

- The SIO patch option is now configurable on the fly; it doesn't reboot the machine. Besides the hardware dialog you can flip it with F11.
- Hardware dialog was reworked to display better on ModeX screens. Antic dialog is gone; its contents are on the Hardware dialog now.
- Now using better artifacting code from Perry (text mode still doesn't work)
- Volume will not be set on MMsystems that can't handle it (what's up with THAT anyway? Seems to be true for ancient SoundBlasters. Ugh). Volume slider will be disabled on these systems.
- Fixed SKSTAT handler (could cause missing keystrokes, missed reads of SHIFT)
- Any nagging sound initialization problems people were having should be fixed
- Added 48Khz sound output. Most sound cards probably don't support this; and the WaveOut functions can NOT check for this capability ahead of time, so be prepared for it to fail. It really rocks on my SoundBlaster PCI64 though; makes a huge difference fo r disk access noises and high frequency stuff.
- Joystick dialog differentiates between "none" and "keypad". Keypad can only be assigned to one port, and should always work. On 101 keyboards the arrow keys WILL work as Atari arrow keys regardless of keypad setting. I'm doing it the pristine MSoft way now; so if it still doesn't work on your keyboard, well, sue Bill Gates or something.
- Woohoo! Autoduel works! Use 130XE, SIO patch off, and you'll want to have F8 (full speed) most of the time. One of the best games ever out of Origin.
- Took out the internal Atari UI until it can be reworked. Too fugly with the first quicky attempt; and besides it doesn't do anything the Win UI doesn't.
- Joystick button 2 (if available) flips between full and regular speed (same as keyboard F8). Button 3 pauses/unpauses (keyboard F9). Button 4 flips the SIO patch (keyboard F11). Yes, I will make these configurable later on.
- Pausing the emulator now shades the screen 50%.
- Reorganized CPU code for both (slight) speed and size improvement.
- Fixed SIO bug in drive status (DCOMND 0x53).

You can download A800Win 2.1 from the Atari 8 bit page.

Emulator Release: xNes resumed, 0.51 released news by zophar
02:45:  After 6 months of Nicolas Hamel's departure from xNes, it has been resumed by a new author. Not much is new in the 6 months that xNes has been dormant, however, as can be seen from the what's new list of 0.51:

- Encapsulated xnes.dat (palette)
- Added joystick support (4-buttons, player 1 only)
- The emulator doesn´t crash more when unable to initialise graphics modes
- Primitive GUI removed to be improved
- New resolutions, with auto detection improved (a bit faster)
- Some changes in the messages.

You can download xNes 0.51 from the NES page.

Emulator Release: AppleWin 1.40 news by zophar
02:29:  After a long inactivity period, a new release of Apple2Win, the best Apple IIc/IIe/II+ emulator for Windows is now available. Here's what's new in AppleWin 1.40:

- Added 4 Hot-Keys for you hardcore Apple-II fans -- Use PageUp & PageDown keys to select DiskImage for Disk#1 , and Home/End keys to select DiskImage for Disk#2 .It would search according to what you first select in OpenFile Dialog box. (For example ,if you choose KingQuest1.nib in the dialog box first ,when you press HotKeys later ,program will search *.nib instead of *.dsk default). Maximum scroll back limit is 100 files that I think is quite enough. I suggest you can put your favorite BIG game into one directory , and you'll know how much time you can save now :)
- Secondly ,transfering Apple-file to MSDOS-file has been implemented in this release ! It's some bug in the previous release. It's okay now in Win3.1/95 :-)
- Thirdly , I've added some useful DEBUG commands ,dig out these new commands in HELP file on your own (just press F1 key) !
- Fourthly , for Seoul AppleBoy's request ,I change the MAX image-size up to 170K , so that his Simperia Game can execute properly in AppleWin!
- Fifthly , for Captain Kirk's request ,I add a button allow users to LOCK/UNLOCK diskettes in both drives. Thus Wizardry can execute properly now :)

You can download AppleWin 1.40 from the Apple II page.

Site News: CGI status & poll results news by zophar
01:22:  As of right now, everything on ZD should be working, except for the counters. PLEASE e-mail me if you find *anything* other than the counters not working correctly so that I can fix it at once. Counters will be fixed shortly.

The poll results are in! We asked you 2 weeks ago, "Would you be interested in a video game manual section?" Incredibly, 87.8% of you said yes, you'd love to see it. Only 8% said no and 4.3% didn't care. I will be talking with some people about moving the ir manual archives here.

The new poll question is, "What do you think is the best browser?" Cast your vote today!
