Emulator Release: New Sparcade FINALLY released news by zophar
22:53:  After over a YEAR of inactivity, Sparcade has received an update. Now at version 2.2, it runs 21 new games, which are: Berzerk, Bombjack, Commando, Domino Man, Jr pacman, Millipede, Moon Cresta, Nemesis, Rainbow Islands, Salamander, Satan's Hollow, Slap Fight, Super Cobra, Tazmania, Terra Cresta, Tron, Turtles, Tutankham, Uniwars, Vulcan Venture and Wardner.

Site News: Genecyst & ZSNES SaveGame Archives updated news by zophar
22:20:  There have been updates to the Genecyst and ZSNES SaveGame Archives. Added were some new saves, as well as a 'new!' icon next to every save that was recently added. A note to all contributing saves:be sure to fill out the .frm file EXACTLY the way it says to. Saves without a .frm will be deleted. Also, make sure in ZSNES, if you contribute a save, that sound is turned ON, or else it won't save the music state.

Misc. News: Another site monsooned news by zophar
14:20:  Stormworld, one of the better emulation news sites on the web, has been shut down today. Read his statements on why it was shut down. This is very upsetting, as it is one of many sites that has been shut down in the last week.

Emulator News: Project Unreality 0.3a compatibility Doc news by zophar
14:08:  A compatibility document has been created by TheCrazy1 (with a little bit of help from myself) on what games and demos Project Unreality 0.3a runs, doesn't run, and the errors you get when you run a non working game. As you may have guessed, no commercial games are playable, although some do display the N64 logo intro. Download the compatibility document and see for yourself.

Utility News: Hexposure 0.199 released news by zophar
13:53:  Hexposure is one of the neatest utilities I have ever tried. Coded by the author of NESemu (released just minutes ago), this NES util allows you to edit the text of virtually any NES rom in existance, through the use of .TBL files. Sample TBL's, for Zelda, Zelda2, and others, are supplied with the util to give you an idea of how to create your own. ROM hackers should love this util. You can download it from the NES utilities page.

Emulator Release: New NES emulator released news by zophar
13:35:  A new NES emulator, appropriately named NESemu, has just been released. It is rather primitive, but small(only 4KB) and fast (full speed on a P75). It emulates the following:

- 6502 CPU
- PPU read/writes
- Sprite DMA transfer
- Other internal registers
- Palette
- 8x8 sprites
- Background drawing
- Joypads

You can download NESemu 0.01b from the NES page. There is no homepage for it currently.

Emulator Release: Project Unreality 0.3a finally released! news by zophar
10:52:  Well, this is the moment we've all been waiting for. Last night, Project Unreality 0.3a, the only real N64 emulator, was released. It can now play Pong64, a Nintendo64 homebrewn game, at around 8 FPS or so on my Cyrix 6x86 p166+ (that's with lots of apps open though). Here's a tiny list of what's new:

- Very _GOOD_ 2D emulation,
- Major speed increase (just look at Pong!),
- Many new interface registers implemented,
- Controller emulation, and
- Very primitive audio emulation.

Emulator Release: Z26 0.93 released news by zophar
10:20:  A new version of Z26, one of the best Atari 2600 emulators for DOS, has been released. The following things have been updated in Z26 since version 0.92:

- A palette adjustment.
- Slightly more responsive joystick code.
- Removed some experimental graphics code.
- Smaller faster sound drivers.
- Added a 1 second startup delay to allow monitors to synchronize to the new video mode before starting. This makes it more likely that you'll see the first frame of the game.

Emulator Release: No$GMB 1.4a released news by zophar
03:09:  A new version of NoCash GameBoy Emulator (No$GMB) has been released. The following bugs have been fixed in version 1.4a:

- SOUND: SBpro, SB16+ volume init (that was almost turned off by default)
- SETUP: number of emulated gameboys setting fixed
- VESA SVGA: video hardware pagesize detection (graphix debug screen)
- NO MOUSE: removed stup!d shutdown on startup (graphix debug screen)

FreeMSX 0.09 released
06:47:  A new MSX emulator for Windows 95, called FreeMSX, has been released. It was actually released a few days ago. It currently emulates V9958-Video, Joysticks, Disk, Tape, PSG, SCC; Z80A/R800-processor, FM-PAC, and KANA-ROM (Japanese characters). It will emulate the mouse and MSX audio in the future. New RAGE frontend
06:19:  DvRageFE v1.08, a new RAGE frontend, has been released. It is for RAGE 0.8, and you can download the frontend from the homepage.

More Emulation Camp news
06:15:  It seems that while Zoop has left Emulation Camp, it will now be maintained by Lil. Also, Zoop's farewell message has been translated to English, and you can read the translation at Emulation Camp. We at Zophar's Domain wish the best of luck to Lil, who is now maintaining Emulation Camp, and to Zoop, who will be missed.

ScrollBall v2.5 (Final?) Released
18:20:  ScrollBall "emulates" a mouse wheel with the arrow keys and/or the mouse, among other ways. With one of the options, you can scroll your programs up by just moving your mouse at the top of the screen! Here are the updates to version 2.5:

- Speed tweak.
- Option to run in the system tray instead of a window.
- Command-line option "-tosystemtray" added. If this is
used, the program will start up as a system tray icon
instead of a window.
- Support for scrolling windows while you hold the middle
mouse button, if you have a three-button mouse. This
will only work if Windows recognizes your middle mouse
button.
- ScrollBall no longer needs to be restarted if you
change resolutions in the middle of the program in
order to work right.
- New About box & icon. Ok, so those really aren't
features...
- Bug in Load Settings fixed, where if you loaded settings
twice, your Window lists were wrong.
- Installation program added. (A smaller zipfile without
the installation program is also available at the
ScrollBall homepage).
- Added option to change the "thickness" of the edge of
the screen.
- Position of the window saves.

14:56:  Another death...this time, not a person, but a site. The famous Emulation Camp has been shut down. If anyone wants to translate his farewell message (it appears to be in French), then feel free. We will all miss this great site...

Special Report
14:52:  There has been a death recently. While this is totally non-emulator related, I frankly don't care. This is important enough to me (Zophar) to place here. My 12th grade High School Social Science(History) teacher, Mr. Indictor, has passed away this week...he died of a heart attack at only 55 years old. I've never had a teacher die before, and this was one of the few teachers that I've ever liked. He was a great teacher, had a great sense of humour, was always on time(early actually). He was also a photographer part-time. I'd like to leave you all with a picture of him...this whole experience has been very upsetting to me.

URL 0.91 released
07:24:  A bugfix release of URL, an all purpose frontend, has been released. The following bugs were fixed in version 0.91:

- Various bugs fixed.
- Redesigned the configuration screen and added a new switche to disable the screen saver.

- Does not crash anymore on fast system (Pentium 2..).

07:17:  We've added 2 new things to the main page this morning. The first is a new Zophar's Domain logo, courtesy of Big-Daddy of IHOR. Let me know what you think. The second new thing is a new Omni Zophar midi! This midi, courtesy of LK*1, is much closer to the original than the previous Omni Zophar midi that was on this main page. If you want to hear the midi, remember to turn midis on at the config page. Don't forget to visit LK*1's midi website for more great midis, all created by LK*1 himself.

EX68 0.26 released
02:36:  0.26 of EX68, the only X68000 emulator available, has been released. Since the update.txt is not in english, but japanese, and the person who usually translates it for me isn't around, you'll just have to figure out for yourself what's new. You can download EX68 0.26 from the X68000 page.

URL 0.9 released
12:45:  URL, an all-purpose frontend by Zoop of Emulation Camp, has had a new release, 0.9. The following is new since the last release:

- Many many bugs fixed.
- Added mouse support.
- Added a visual script feature (easier and faster). You can still edit scripts manually using [SHIFT]+[F7].
- Now you can configure the list generator with [SHIFT]+[F10]
- Added script command NOSUBDIR.
- Added ratings. Use [SHIFT]-[F6] to rate a rom.
- Added 80*50 video mode.
- Now URL support almost unlimited registered roms. With about 600 kb of base memory, you can handle up to 4500 registered roms and 1000 files on the same directory. It should be enough :) You can also choose the maximum files limits to reduce memory usage.
- Added Mame name reading features. Press [*] then [F8] to read names of all your roms. Because of this features full names are no more included in the default URL.ROM file.
- Now you can the internal name of a zipped rom.
- Fixed the garbage at the end of the string when reading the name of a Gameboy rom.
- Added a search string function in the file viewer (F3).
- Added a filter against japanese names.
- Added a screensaver and the ALT-X shortcut to quit URL.
- Added physical renaming with [SHIFT]+[F8].
- Added a shortcut to view the file using your external editor.
- Added a windows icon by Made/Bomb (http://bomb.citeweb.net)
- Renamed script command TARGET_DIR to TARGET.
- Renamed script command CHOICE to SHORTCUT.
- No more KILL_EXT command, which is obsolete since URL use it
automatically when needed (in the case of arcade roms).
- Added a Sound Blaster mixer (!) because someone requested it.
It may be usefull on some computer. Key is [SHIFT]-[F9].
- Added SHOW WHEN UNZIPPING switch in main configuration screen.
- Added a random game hotkey ('!' by default).
- Added command line switch /RUN to run a game directly.

BRMSX 1.101 released
09:00:  BRMSX, the fastest MSX emulator around, has been updated to version 1.101. The following has been updated since 1.100:

- Full Z80 emulation, including all documented and undocumented opcodes.
- IM 2 emulation (LOTS of new games will work, like "Survivor" and "Venom Strikes Back").
- DSK images are no longer write protected.
- Fixed last bugs of save and load state.
- Fixed minor bug on right side of screen, in VESA2 mode.
- Save and load state through the GUI.
- Full SCREEN 1 video cache ("Hype").
- Support for #8000 cartridges ("Alcazar", "Mobile Suit Gundam").

Site maintenance
08:35:  I've been looking at some of the emulation pages of Zophar's Domain, and have realized many of the comments of many emulators are totally out of date. I've rewritten the comments in the Lynx and NES sections, and added the 6502 source code to NESticle (how could I have missed that?!) to the NES page. I'll be rewriting other section's comments throughout the week.

Z-Type 1.5 released
05:29:  Z-Type 1.5, a Z26 frontend, has been released today. Here's the e-mail I received from the author:

Hi!

There's a little bug in the new release of my z26 front-end (V. 1.5).

No matter what path you enter for the emulator, you can't view the z26
credits due to a stupid typo in the code. Although this isn't a serious bug, it's annoying, though. Thanks to John (the author of z26) for telling me about this one. It's fixed now.

Handy source code released
05:23:  The source code to the only Lynx emulator that can play commercial games, Handy, has been released. You can download the .4 source code from the Lynx page. Since it's been discontinued, the author is asking that anyone who wishes to continue Handy, or use the source code in another Lynx project, to feel free to use it.

New NES Emulator, fwNES, released
03:33:  Just moments ago, the newest NES emulator from FanWen hit the shores, and boy, is it armed. It has support (some full, some partial) for the following mappers:0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 32, 33, 34, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 80, 81, 82, 83, and finally, 84, which is the Pasofami format! The sound support is ADLIB, so it's not as accurate as NESticle's sound, but in terms of support, you can't go wrong with fwNES. You can check out more about fwNES from the fwNES homepage, and you can download fwNES 0.1 from the NES page.

Nofrendo 0.57 just released
01:20:  A new version of Nofrendo, one of the best NES Emulators for DOS, has been released. The following changes are present in 0.57:

- Noise channel frequency finally fixed- thanks, Sardu
- Sprite priorities in Punch-Out back to normal again
- Some more speed- I have no idea where it came from
- More verbose warning when Nofrendo encounters a dirty header

Xain'D Sleena Arcade emulator released
23:28:  A new single arcade emulator has been released. It emulates the classic arcade game Xain'D Sleena. It is rather slow and has no sound support however. You can pick up release 1 from the Single-Arcade Emulator page.

Annoid 1.0 added to Single-Arcade Emulation page
23:12:  Annoid, an Arkanoid Arcade Emulator, was released a few days ago. I didn't have a chance to add it then, so I'm adding it now. It's for Windows 95 and requires DirectX. It's a little slow at fullscreen but it has sound and runs the game quite well. You can download Annoid 1.0 at the Single-Arcade Emulator page.

Old GameBoy emulators re-added to ZD
21:20:  Some of you old timers may recall some old Gameboy emulators circulating around the 1996-1997 era, such as Fondle, Hyperboy and VGB-LORD. What do all these have in common? They're all hacks of Marat Fayzullin's Virtual GameBoy emulator (VGB). I've added these 3 emulators to the GameBoy page as a reminder that as much as some of you may dislike Marat, you have to realize that VGB was largely responsible for Gameboy emulation as we know it. I've also added Jens' GBSIM to the GameBoy page as well. He also coded VPCE, the TG16 emulator for DOS. None of these emulators really compare to emulators out there today, but they're nice to check out for nostalgic reasons.

No$GMB 1.4 has been released
20:13:  The fastest Gameboy emulator for DOS has had an update, and what an update. Tons are new in the new release, version 1.4:

- finally FFA (final fantasy adventure) works in start-key menu. phew!
- various sound envelope fixes, hope everybody will like it much better...

ScrollBall v2.0 Released
22:24:  ScrollBall is a mouse wheel emulator (well, simulator I guess, not sure on the technical definition of emulator). Basically, it lets you scroll programs just by moving the mouse around! This program was created by our very own Infe of Zophar's Domain, and can be found here.

CajoNES also updated!
22:18:  Along with the new Nofrendo, the author also updated CajoNES, this is the final release due to the fact that there really isn't anything left for him to do.

Street Fighter 2 for Master System?
21:53:  Zophar's Domain has received an email from Zoop of Emu Camp, regarding Street Fighter 2 for the Sega Master System. It appears that the game does in fact, exist. You can take a look at a scan of the actual box, and see for yourself!

Nofrendo 0.56 released!
21:43:  A new version of one of the best NES emulators around, Nofrendo, has been released. The following is new in Version 0.56:

- .SAV's now comply with the -savedir option.
- Redefinable keyboard mappings. Make sure you delete your old .ini file to get the new functionality, baby.
- Sound is much clearer in general, big thanks to Alucard.
- *Significant* speed increase in the sprite and background rendering engines- probably about 25 to 30 percent faster. Simple is gooder.
- Load/Save state overhaul. All games should save and load flawlessly now. Let me know if you experience any turbulence.
- After 350MB of CPU traces, Dragon Warrior 1 works. That better have been the last bloody CPU bug.
- Mapper 32 support (Image Fight J)
- Mapper 33 support (Pon Poko Pon J)
- Mapper 22 support (TwinBee 3 J)
- Mapper 21 support (Wai Wai World 2 J) - hangs due to IRQ problems, however.
- Mapper 16 support (DragonballZ J series, SD Gundam Gaiden J) -IRQ problems with this badboy, also.
- Mapper 17 support (Parodius). As always, IRQ problems.
- Illegal palette writes are now accepted (Archon, Crystalis J)
- Minor palette omission fixed. Should be 100% accurate now.
- Mapper support completely rewritten.
- Multiple MMC1 (mapper 1) fixes
- Smaller (packed) executable
- FPS display (SPACEBAR) changed to percentage of real NES speed being emulated. This was to clear up the ambiguity whether real frames or virtual frames were being counted.
- ROM info (BACKSPACE)
- Mirroring flip ('\' key)
- Sprite clipping bug fixed

As a side note to one of my visitors, zane, who has been bugging the heck out of me to have one of the emulator authors get Archon to work, it works now so have fun :)

Atari 800 Emu 0.8.6 released!
15:32:  A new version of Atari 800 emu for DOS has been released, Version 0.8.6. The following has been updated since 0.8.0:

- DMA sound for Falcon version (using POKEY 2.2). Buffer recalculation is not interrupt driven yet.
- Error messages are buffered until the original text mode is restored (see #define BACKUP_MSG)
- Falcon version supports up to two joysticks
- Snailmeter :-) A kind of indicator for slow machines - it shows you how many times is the emulator slower than real Atari800. On my Afterburner (68040 @ 40 MHz) it's about three or four times slower than original :-( If your machine is fast enough, the snailmeter is not visible. So watch the lower bottom of screen! :-)

FrontRAGE 1.02 released
13:32:  FrontRAGE, a frontend for the multi arcade emulator RAGE, has been updated to version 1.02. The following has been added:

- better zipped-roms handling

Atmospherical Heights dead
23:58:  For over a year and a half, Atmospherical Heights was one of the best Arcade emulation sites around. Now, it has ended. You can read at Atmospherical Heights why the page had to shut down, as well as a farewell message. It will be missed.

Project Unreality progress
21:49:  As seen on the Project Unreality homepage, WaveRace 64 now displays the Nintendo 64 logo. Can't do much else after that but hey, it's progress!

As a side note, please don't email me every time the Project Unreality page is updated. People are quite capable of reading the news on the main site themselves.

ZSNES Compatibility list
21:18:  Bellicose has made a ZSNES Compatibility list, with over 600 ROMs tested. You should check it out when you get a chance, it's the most comprehensive compatibility list for ZSNES there is.

Save Game Archives updated
00:22:  The ZSNES save state and Genecyst save state archives have been updated by alamone minutes ago. The genecyst archive update was a small one, but the zsnes archive update was larger, with over 10 new saves added. Don't forget to contribute to alamone if you have any saves we don't!

Poll Results
02:23:  The poll results are in! We asked the question: "Which special SNES chip would you like to see emulated first?" Well, the results are in! 49.4% of you said you'd rather have DSP1 emulation for games such as Super Mario Kart and Pilot Wings. 22.9% said they'd rather have Super FX emulation, for StarFox. 17% wanted Yoshi's Island's Super FX2 emulated, and 10.7% wanted to see Street Fighter 2 Alpha's chip emulated first. In my own opinion, I'd rather see Mario Kart emulated before anything else.

The new poll question is: "Do you think the N64 emulator, Project Unreality, will ever be able to play commercial games at a decent frame rate on a P200?" Cast your votes now!

Regarding the recent downtime of internexus
02:09:  It seems as though Internexus was down for the greater part of yesterday. However, things are back on track now. The admin of internexus has informed me that some new servers will be coming online sometime soon. We apologize for the downtime.

New Universal Front End
08:43:  I've received the following email about a new Front End:

I am writing you to tell you about my new Front End named "Ultimate Front End" or UFE for short. UFE allows anyone with a text editor, a
copy or UFE, and a brain to create or customize thier own front ends by using UFE's own scripting language. The language itself is very easy to use and can be compiled so no one else can steal your front end code.

There are currently no UFE modules that are front ends yet, but I am personally working on a ZSNES UFE.

SNESSOR 2.1 DOS has been released
23:11:  Butcha has updated his SNES sound ripping utility for DOS to version 2.1. The following has been changed from 2.0a:

- You can now load WAV files into your favorite ROMs and replace samples! More info in SNESSOR.DOC.
- Added lots more precision to the speed select, you can now select the frequency by approximately one musical half-step each keypress. It also allows you to manually type in the frequency.
- Added a sensitivity option, in case SNESSOR was skipping samples that you think should be there. If you can't find a sample, lowering this value should help.
- Introduced a different sensitivity for samples that loop, because short samples that loop are less likely to be trash than short samples that don't. Also added the option to change this.

BRMSX 1.100 has been released
09:48:  A new version of the fastest MSX emulator around, BRMSX, has been released. The following is new in 1.100:

- Too many Z80 bug fixes to describe them all. Now BRMSX is the first (and only) MSX emulator to pass in all ZEXALL tests. This means perfect emulation for all documented opcodes, including perfect flag affection for all documented and undocumented flags. Most of the undocumented opcodes are also emulated.
- Disk emulation through .DSK files.
- Removed some bugs on the GUI to make it more stable under DOS.
- Removed a bug in PSG emulation. Now there are no more noise in "Konami's Ping Pong" (it can even be played in multiplayer mode).
- Improved video cache for SCREEN 1 (but it is not fully implemented yet).
- New keyboard driver. Now you can use both cursor sets (inside and outside numeric keypad). Missing keys were also added: LGRA (GRAPH), RGRA (CODE), STOP, SELECT.
- BRMSX can now read BASIC cartridges.
- Improved save/load state (but it's not 100% stable yet).

As you can see from reading the article, the reporter has absolutely no clue as to what's going on. He calls MAME shareware, which it is NOT (it's freeware). He also doesn't seem to be able to grasp the concept of what a ROM is (ie, they didn't recreate the code, the code was actually dumped right off the arcade board with an EPROM reader). Anyway, it's a good article for a quick laugh.

New RAGE frontend has been released

IHOR is back temporarily
16:34:  It seems as though Big Daddy has put the original IHOR back up for the time being. It will probably be going down within a few days again, so go there while you can. For those that don't know, IHOR, which stands for International house of ROMs, was one of the biggest ROM Archives ever created. It was shut down due to bandwidth problems because of too many people trying to download.

New SNESSOR95 Released
21:16:  SNESSOR95 v1.2b- Now, when you save your ripped data, it is saved into a .wav file, instead of just raw sound data. This means you can look through the "fuzz" to find snes sounds if you like, instead of using a sound editor. I also decided to keep the BlackJack game, and fixed it up. All the bugs that I know of in it are gone. I think I may have a crash bug when you try to rip your second rom, but it may have been something weird during debug, I'm not sure. Minor GUI touchup. Get it here.

FrontEnds section really coming soon this time
21:11:  Well, we know that we've been promising everyone a frontends section since we arrived here on internexus. Well, this time, we really will have one coming soon. Internexus's very own JL_Picard has agreed to maintain one starting at the end of February. So, expect one coming at the end of the month, or the beginning of March. For real this time!

CAGE 1.02 has been released

N'tendo 0.0085a has been released
23:41:  N'tendo, a preliminary NES emulator by Bjorn of Archaic Ruins fame, has been updated to 0.0085a. New in this version:

- The JMP opcode (Jump to location) now works partially. But the program can't shift Rom banks when jumping around.
- The emulator is about 200% faster than in the last release :)
- Almost all opcodes are implemented and registered by the emulator.
- Sound emulation! Hahaha. No. Not yet :)

23:14:  The last poll question was, "Should ZD's emulator sections rate emulators on a 1-5 'star' scale?" Overwhelmingly, you feel we should. Sixty-four percent of you think it's a good idea. Sixteen percent of you didn't care, and 18 percent didn't want ratings. Thus, we have started working on a special kind of rating system here at ZD. It won't exactly be a 1-5 'star' scale, but, well...you'll see.

SNEeSe 0.14 has been released
20:10:  0.14 of SNEeSe has been released. The following has been updated in this version from 0.13:

- Silent Sound Emulation is almost complete, Mario & Zelda run fine under this mode, other roms may not. Roms that refused to work with sound skipping are more likely to work with sound emulation, dragons quest 1 & 2 now start. Unfortunately there are other problems with that rom... many Konami roms work better now, its dependant on when you press start to skip out of the logo. NB sound output is disabled in this release, it is too buggy to release (only 1 rom has 1 sample that sounds even close.....).
- Fixed bug in VMAIN register, or to put it another way emulated snes hardware bug in VMAIN register.
- Fixed bug in mode 0 colour selection, thanks to Paul Robson for this one.
- Gui improved thanks to Santeri Saarimaa.
- Fixed bug in sprite edge clipping routine (done by Charles).
- Added some support for the remaining readable hardware registers.
- Fixed bug in sprite addressing routines, sidplayer demo now displays the missing sprites.
- Fixed bug in dma operation 1, Mario works better but still has gfx corruption when changing maps. Snes test cart runs completely through all character tests, but fails on many due to incomplete hardware...

- Fixed bug in memory mapper for reading illegal registers.

ZSNES 0.305 has been released!
17:38:  A new version of ZSNES has been released. One of the best SNES emulators in existance, it now has the following things fixed since version 0.300b:

- Fixed a snes ppu multiplication bug. Thanks to Lord Esnes!
- Hopefully fixed 6-button joystick support.
- Fixed a little memory overflow bug which caused some games to not work
- Forgot to clear NMI wait substitute variables when another game is loaded from the GUI
- Changed sound processing engine back to v0.297. If for any reason you want to go back to v0.300 sound engine, use -x as a command line
- Added Cursor Mode Button to the Super Scope. Never thought it was necessary until recently. Use the =/+ key.

Z26 0.92 released!
19:42:  Version 0.92 of Z26, one of the best Atari 2600 emulators available, has been released. The following is new in this version:

- PC joystick support. If you have a PC joystick, z26 will use it to emulate the Atari joystick. Calibration is not required. Just make sure the PC joystick is centered when you start the emulator. This code is somewhat experimental. Let me know if you have any problems. Please see the readme.txt for more information.
- 60Hz video mode 2 is now the default video mode.

ZSNES bugfix release
23:53:  ZSNES 0.300b, a bugfix release, is now available from the ZSNES mirror page, as the main page won't be updated until tommorow. This release fixes a bug that caused sidewinder support to crash.

New Version of SNESSOR95 Released
21:45:  SNESSOR95 v1.1b has been released. Whoops! The first version didn't really work at all! It only happened to work on one rom I tried because the data happened to be aligned just so. This has been fixed. Now it really WILL dump the sounds out of a rom to a file. Heh. A lame buggy BlackJack game was added. I'll probably just discard this :D Still working on sample searching, as you can see from this program, it's obviously a work in progress. The "Rip to Pieces" option is disabled.

Eidolon Translation Group
15:07:  A new translation group is being founded, named ETG (Eidolon Translation Group). Eidolon has e-mailed Zophar's Domain asking for help. He is looking for members. Specifically, ROM Hackers and Translators. The more members there are, the more translations there will be. Visit Eidolon's translation page and if you can help, let him know.

MAME64?
11:45:  I recently came acrosss an article at IGN64. The article says that the popular arcade emulator, MAME, has been ported to the Nintendo64. Although it sounds silly and pointless (and perhaps it is), this is an interesting feat for someone to accomplish. Although the article is heavily biased in favor of nintendo (it says that it's flat out illegal), it's interesting to read.

Genecyst GS0 Archive maintainer found
22:59:  A maintainer for the Genecyst GS0 archive has been found. A massive update to the archive will be coming very soon. Thanks to all those that mailed in. Alamone is the new maintainer of the archive.

New Multi-Arcade Emulator, JAS, released
11:15:  A new multi arcade emulator, called JROK's Arcade Simulation, has been released. Version 1.00 emulates the following games: Mappy, Galaga 3, Gaplus, Super Pacman, Dig Dug 2 and SkyKid. Rage 0.7 has been released
21:55:  A new version of Rage, the SNK/Capcom/IREM Arcade emulator, has been released. The following is new in version 0.7:

Nofrendo 0.54 has been released!
21:32:  One of the best NES emulators, Nofrendo, has been updated to version 0.54. A whole bunch of things are new in this release:

- Nofrendo.ini configuration file. Read it, live it, love it.
- Automatic frameskipping; "-frameskip AUTO" or use the .ini. (courtesy I.A.)
- ROM / save directories configurable in the .ini. This is for all you with CD-ROMs.
- FPS display, enable it with the the spacebar.
- Bug in 6502 core fixed - Dragon Warrior 2, Milon's Secret Castle, Karate Kid, etc. all work now. Sadly, DW1 doesn't.
- Mapper 19 (Splatterhouse) really works this time.
- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out looks much better thanks to Jim Geffre.
- NES timing is now very near perfect. Galaxian, Castlevania, Kung Fu, Ice Hockey, etc. all run correctly now.
- Speed gain due to complete code overhaul and much caffeine.
- Made a spectacular simplification in the graphics code. This doesn't do much for you, but it makes me feel like a genius.
- Sprite routines sped up.
- Graphics glitch fixed - now Wizards and Warriors/ Battletoads
graphics display correctly (not the split screen, though).
- Got rid of useless 640x480 mode. F6 now sets 320x240 ModeX.
- Sound code revamped. Sound works in Galaxian, Bubble Bobble.
- Volume decay added to sound code (coin sounds in SMB).
- Square wave fixed (Zelda, etc.), courtesy of me.
- Soundcard can now be specified on the command-line (see .ini).
- Fixed a big bug in the volume control (i.e. it didn't work).
- New "perfect" palette. If you don't like it, you're wrong.
- Command-line option parsing bug fixed.
- "verbose" command-line option removed, as it was dumb.
- Exit fade out removed. Cool the first time, not the 8074th.

Extenders added to Zophar's Domain
16:45:  Underneath the emulator sections, you will now notice an 'Extenders' section. This is for those emulators that don't come with an extender, such as DOS4GW. Just download the extender and copy it to the dir with the emulator in it and voila.

"History of Video Games"
15:58:  I recently came across a website called "History of Video Games". It's a website that discusses the history of Video Games, from their roots in the 1950's, through the Great Crash of '84, past the NES and all the way up to the present. It's a very interesting read, you might want to check it out.

EX68 0.25 has been released
13:51:  EX68, the only X68000 computer emulator available, has been updated to Version 0.25. New in this version (and 0.24, which was released yesterday) include the following:

Intellivision emulator section (sort of) added to ZD
12:50:  An Intellivision emulator section has been added to Zophar's Domain. This classic 80's gaming console never gained the popularity than the Atari 2600 acheived, but it was still much more advanced than either system. Unfortunatly, the link to download from ZD has been disabled, until I receive permission from the Blue Sky Rangers, makers of the Intellivision and its emulator, to place it here for download.

ZD Poll results & new poll!
00:51:  The poll results are in! We asked the question:Do you have any problems using sound in ZSNES? The results came back as follows: 61% had no trouble getting ZSNES to produce sound. 22% of you got ZSNES to produce sound, but had some problems doing so. 15% of you could not get any sound at all! To the 15% of people that get no sound, try running zsnes with the -8 command, to turn on 8 bit sound, and see if that can get your sound to work.

The new poll question is: Should ZD's emulator sections rate emulators on a 1-5 'star' scale? The Links page is one example of this, with sites rated on a scale of 1-5, with stars showing each point. Cast your vote at the poll page!

This popular 16 bit home computer from the 1980's was quite popular back then, and there are still many people today that love their Atari ST's (the ones that still have them). Odyssey 2 emulator section added to ZD
16:44:  An Odyssey 2 emulator section has been added to Zophar's Domain. This little-known console debuted in 1978, and was created by Philips and Magnavox. Similar to the Atari 2600 in technology, this system was never the hit that the Atari 2600 was, but many people liked it. There's one emulator available for it currently. Enjoy!

Correction to Atari 5200 & 8 bit page
15:06:  I mistakenly uploaded an older version of Atari 800 emu. The Windows 95 version was marked as being at 1.3, when actually it is at 1.4 now. The correct version has now been uploaded, and you can get this version from the Atari 5200 & 8 bit page. Thanks to Stephan for informing me of this error.

Emulator Sections divided up
18:46:  Zophar's Domain emulator sections are now divided up into 4 subsections: Console, Computer, Arcade, and Other. This should make it easier to find the type of emulator you are looking for. Also, an Intellivision section will be added soon, when (if) I get permission from the Blue Sky Rangers to post the file on ZD (they have a rule about distributing their files off of their page).

ZD Staff lessened by one
16:38:  Zophar's Domain has lost a very valuable member today, Grit9000. Grit9000 has been around for quite a long time, in fact, when I first found out what emulation was, I remember him. Although I'm not clear on why exactly he left, the fact remains that he has, and he will be missed. The FrontEnd pages are on hold, obviously, because of this.

Utilities Page Maintenance
16:01:  Since [NOAM] is unable to access the internet currently, I, Zophar, am maintaining the utilities pages for now. I fixed a broken link that was found on the NES Utilities page, and I have added an updated version of ROMedit, Version 2.25, to the NES Utilities page, as well as a link to the homepage.

20:22:  A new version of an MSX emulator, BRMSX, has been released. The following has been changed from the previous 1.84 version:

- Reset function
- Sound Blaster can be configured in any IRQ, even higher than 9.
- Fixed flag affection for IN A,(dd)
- Fixed waitstates (for the last time, I hope)
- Added new TV emulation, with scanlines and low-pass filter (requires VESA 2.0 driver capable of 512x384x8 resolution and a fast machine)

Massage 0.80 freeware has finally been released!
17:53:  After close to a year after the initial release of Massage 0.80 to registered users, the freeware version is now available to everyone. No more cripples, totally functional. The following has changed since 0.73:

- Bug fix to make Rainbow Islands playable.
- Game Gear stereo using the OPL 3 chip (in SB Pro (new version) and above). Use /nostereo from the command line if you are having problems. USE /nostereo OPTION IF MASSAGE CANNOT DETECT YOUR SOUNDCARD.
- Player 2 can be controlled by keys 1 - Up, Q - Down, W - Left, E - Right, 2 - "Button 1" and 3 - "Button 2". This is intended for using redefinable joysticks which plug into the keyboard socket.
- Option to set target speed, using /speed from the command line.
- Obvious corruption fixed in Astro Warrior, Popeye, Surf Ninjas, GP Rider, MahjongG.
- Less obvious corruption fixed in Ax Battler (on the bridge) and the
Sega TM bits (in Space Harrier.GG and Aerial Assault.GG etc.)
- Pop Breaker can now be played (but only in Japanese mode).
- Certain parts of the screen are pre-calculated which causes the speed to be reported at a higher value, however it varies slightly.

01:35:  A new version of a the Atari2600 emulator based off of A26, Z26, has been updated to v 0.91. The following has been updated from 0.90:

- Correct play speed at last! Now you can use new 60Hz video modes courtesy of Jim Leonard (Trixter / Hornet). Please see the readme.txt for more information.

FF5 on ZSNES - *update*
19:28:  I have received many emails on the subject of FF5 on ZSNES. The main problem with it not working seems to be when sound is disabled. This is easy to fix, just turn sound on! Why one would not want to have sound on is beyond me. Run zsnes with -s, or edit zsnes.cfg and change the SOUND= line to SOUND=1. Also, if anyone still experiences the random 'warping' problem in zsnes, let me know.

Even the url of the site was given :)
[The channel] is called "Canal+". it is a private channel (i mean that you must pay $$ for it). anyway i don't have this channel at home. [The time of the program was] 7 pm. It was about emulation. Everyday there is a different subject. Only five minutes.

First Beta of SNESSOR95 Released
19:16:  A Win95 port of the DOS version of SNESSOR, this does not have the full functionality of the DOS version yet, but it's worth at least trying. This program was ported by our very own Infe of Zophar's Domain. Get it at the SNES utilities page, or at Infe's SNESSOR95 page.

N'tendo 0.006 Alpha released
17:44:  A new NES emulator by Bjorn of Archaic Ruins has been released. It is nothing more than a file loader that displays debugging screens yet, but keep on the lookout for future releases. You can get it (if you really want to) from the NES page.

Emu Xpress redesigned
16:52:  Emu Xpress has recently been redesigned. Although many people seem to like the new layout, I think it looks like a barber shop (the background anyway). The stripes aren't all that appealing. Anyway, it's still a great site, and you should check it out sometime.

Raine 0.07 has been released
14:50:  A new multiple arcade emulator, Raine, has been released. It supports the following games:

Rainbow Islands, Toki, Flying Shark, Rastan, SuperMan, Sand Scorpion, Cadash, Bionic Commando, Terra Cresta, Zero Wing, Chelnov, Puzzle Bobble, Snow Bros and Xenophobe.

Most of these games are not playable, however. You can download it at the Arcade page.

Pasofami 2.3a (DirectX) released.
22:46:  I can tell you next to nothing about what's new in Pasofami 2.3a, as this NES emulator's documentation is all in Japanese, as well as the menus. I can tell you, however, that you can download the Trial Version of Pasofami 2.3a from the NES page. If anyone knows what's new, e-mail me.

Emulation Camp has moved
21:26:  One of the more popular emulation sites, Emulation Camp, has moved to a new server. It has also received a new look, which is a lot cleaner than the old look, although the links section is now called 'Search', which may be a little confusing. Check out the new and improved Emulation Camp.

The return of RPGe

Well. The program was about computers. They did a historical travel
throughout computer history. Then they began talking emulators. And your site was on screen for a moment. They didnt really mention it on the show though. But "AS SEEN ON SWEDISH TV" wouldnt be a lie...

EX68 0.23 has been released
01:12:  The X68000 japanese computer emulator, EX68, has been updated to 0.23. From the update.txt, the following is new in this version:

- Added -n option at startup.
- PC9801-86 system update. ADPCM update.
