Honestly, after reading this the day it was announced on IGN... I was horrified. However, at the same time, I couldn't stop laughing. It was really weird. I honestly like Revolution better... but now that I think about the new name and the path Nintendo has been travelling the last two console generations, I think Wii is probably more fitting than most people give it credit for. I don't consider a Revolution to be something Nintendo would start... they've become the side-line pacifists these last couple of years. Sure, they've had some awsome games... and a good portion of them make me wanna say "Weee!" or something along those lines when I play them. I think this is a really great marketing strategy for Nintendo, especially considering how they fared in the last console generation. The idea of the Revolution was intriguing, with the moving of the controller/joystick to create on-screen movement plus a huge stock of downloadable games from older systems, and now they've really grabbed the attention of the gaming community with the ridiculous name of Wii. Nintendo's Wii (geez, that sounds horrible) will obviously outsell XBox 360 in Japan since Japan is still Nintendo/Sony land for gamers. Just the innovation in gaming makes me want to buy one anyways, dispite the odd name.
Maybe they should've tried banking on the success of the SNES and called their new system the Super Duper Nintendo!! Now that's a name that's appealing to everybody!
