PSP or Laptop?

1. I don't ride the bus.
2. I don't have the desire to play portable games when I can comfortably sit down at home and play them.

That would be the difference. I play PC games when I'm at home, but since I'm on the go alot of the time, my PSP is great for keeping myself occupied.

Hey if it works for you great. If I was a student I'd probably want a portable system--would be a DS--but still I see your point. You still have to admit the DS by the end of this year will have a much better gaming library.

Yeah, there's alot of good games out for DS, too. I got the PSP because it plays video. Using my PSP as a personal video player is great for watching shows I've downloaded. Also, it means I don't need to carry around a USB thumb drive. All in all, the PSP is a great system and I think people would be less critical of it if it had more good titles available.

Meh. I hate when people pirate current systems. I can't be the only one with the restraint to have access to hardware one could pirate these games with that doesn't (Nintendo DS in my case).

Technically, you can play video with the DS as well (homebrew program MoonShell plays video, and tons of different picture and sound formats, including 'unusual' stuff, for a portable audio player, like MIDI, MODS, GBS, NSF, and SPC). :p

It's pretty much MPEG video with MPEG-2 Audio in a custom container.

Anyway, just had to mention that. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif> I'll admit it, I'm a big Nintendo DS fanboy, although I don't really hate on the PSP or anything like that (though I do hate on Sony's habits of making failed custom formats for stuff, like miniDISC).

I look at it as up front cost. I don't mind paying ~$350 for a console and equipment, but I don't expect to pay for games. If I buy the console for $99, paying for games doesn't bother me.

I still don't really get it. I'd rather support the companies so they keep making games (and I know enough to avoid the shitty games so as not to waste my money). If everyone pirated all of their games the whole game industry would die a horrible crash and burn death eventually.

I realize that never will EVERYONE pirate all of their games, but still.

I can't afford to spend $350 on a console and then $50 for each game. It's the same reason why the Revolution is the only remotely (lol pun) appealing Next-Gen console to me. I'm not paying $400+ for a "home entertainment console" and then paying another $50 for each game. That's outrageous. on the other hand, I bought my N64 for about $100 a few years ago and the only two games I ever pirated were Mario64 (because I wanted to try doing a speed run) and Mario Kart 64 (which I no longer need to as I recently bought it for $10). If the stuff is reasonably priced, I have no problem paying for it.

Well no, me neither...what they want to charge for say X-Box 360 is insane. In these cases though I just won't buy the system. Maybe I would have a PSP if it cost $100 dollars or something like that. For that it'd probably be worth getting it just for a choice few commercial games and homebrew.

I suppose I shouldn't say anything...some of the incredibly over-priced PC software out there, I wouldn't really care about pirating it so much because it's incredibly overpriced. Thankfully, most of the time there's a cheaper or freeware solution, but of course game consoles aren't really going to have that unless homebrew somehow totally remakes a commercial game which isn't going to happen.

Ah well, I'll just disagree with you on the pirating thing. :)

Yeah, you can get a crappy computer for that much, I'd never spend it on a console. $250 is about as high as I'm willing to go.

Aren't PS3 games supposed to be $70 or is that just a rumor?

Same here. I've never pirated shit on my DS. Mostly I'd want to play a little music or something, but I don't have a GBA flash cart.

A GBAMP would be cheaper and better for that on your DS, provided you have a compact flash card.
