Zone Alarm Slow Down Issues

Jathys was having problems posting this question, so I'm relaying.

Zone Alarm Security Suite version 6.0
I have this installed on my parents' computer. It works great, though some things occasionally take longer than they should to open now . . . For instance, bringing up Windows clock took 30 seconds once (usually only takes a fraction of a second).

It usually seems to be the same things that have the slow down and they only are slow *once* (ie- if you open it when it is slow, then close the program and re-open it later, it goes at full speed). Affects some folders too.

Anyone experience this and have some possible solutions?

Kerio, Outpost, SyGate Personnal Firewall are better IMO.

Zone Alarm is such a piece of shit. I can't wait until Vista gets here. It has a bi-directional firewall that beats the pants off of any other software firewall and doesn't bog down your system. For right now, if you need a firewall, use a hardware one. They're like $20 and already built in to any router made within the last 5+ years.

Zone Alarm (like all other software firewalls) bogs down the system. The remedy is get more RAM (which you should probably do anyway) or buy a hardware firewall. Also, consider if you need support for blocking outgoing connections. If not, stick with the Windows XP firewall. It works great and will block any incoming connections you tell it to.

Yeah, I got great GRC results using ONLY the XP SP2 native firewall.
