Worst beam in Super Metroid

This is not an actual poll, it's just brainstorming for my SM hack, I want you to tell me what beam (excluding grapple) is the worst, and I will remove it from my hack. I need to remove one of them for some ASM work.

Edit: Lemme make this easier... Spazer or Charge?<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by Insomnia DMX on 08/17/05 06:19 PM.</FONT></P>

>...what beam (excluding grapple) is the worst?...

I would say Spazer is the worst, because eventually you get plasma which won't equip at the same time. And it makes the other beams look really retarted. It just fails. Remove Spazer.

Charge. The wave beam without the Spazer sucks -- and there's a huge gap between when you get the Spazer and when you get the Plasma -- at which time you'd REALLY be hurting offensively if it weren't for the Spazer.

Charge beam is only useful for Crocomire and the Golden Chozo -- it's pretty much useless the rest of the game.

EDIT

But actually -- the worst beam is the Ice -- since it just adds another time you have to hit the enemy. I actually turn off the ice beam in the game except for when it's needed.

EDIT 2:

To clarify. I vote off Ice. But if that's not an option, I vote off Charge.

I disagree, I often find myself turning it off :P
Honestly Charge beam > spazer.
Besides it -would- make the game more interesting to be a better shot, instead of having wide range.

I found it immensely helpful, considering it acts like Screw Attack LONG before you aquire it when you charge and do a running jump. Of course, it doesn't do multiple jumps, but it works.

I figure the most pointless beam in Super Metroid is Wave Beam. At least until you get Spazer, which makes it alot better.

It's super weak -- it only kills things that would die from a single charged shot.

Shoot through walls > *

Plus Wave beam adds a lot of power -- but wave beam by itself kind of sucks -- it works much better with the Spazer.

You get the Spazer WAAAAAAAAY before you get the Wave beam -- it's like on the way to Norfair -- whereas the Wave beam is well into Norfair.

Bah, I haven't played the game in ages, leave me alone. <img src=smilies/laff.gif>

It only takes two wall jumps to get spazer before Kraid, I always get it before Kraid. Also, you are determining whether you will not have either the Charge or Spazer in my hack. So make sure you make it clear which one you want "voted off."

Edit: Muldoon likes spazer
Edit 2: I grow impatient, next new person to reply with an opinion gets the win.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by Insomnia DMX on 08/17/05 07:17 PM.</FONT></P>

Hm, I'm torn...I always liked the Charge beam...it's good if you're running low on or want to conserve missles. Maybe people'd want to keep it if you increased it's power a bit.

*edit*
Yes...from what people are saying, if it's possible, I'd drop Spazer beam and increase the charge beam's power, either increasing it's actual power or reducing the time to charge it somewhat...dunno if those things are possible though, heh.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by The 9th Sage on 08/17/05 07:32 PM.</FONT></P>

Here I go being slightly off topic... but do you think it would be possible to eliminate the "wave" function without getting rid of the wall penetrating factor? Because I think it'd be cool to have to choose between wide attacks and penetrating attacks. With the wave/plasma beam, you get to have your cake and eat it too.

So... my vote is for wave.

But.. something to keep in mind. Less tools in the game make it more challenging, thus you might NOT want to eliminate the LEAST useful beam.

BTW, what space are you specifically referring to? Graphical placement or actual coding space? is it that difficult to expand the ROM? I suppose that could really complicate its functionality with smile in any event...

-Ice beam is a classic and a must keep.
-Wave penetrates walls, so that makes it great.
-Plasma does great damage.
-Charge allows you to harm bosses without missiles.

So the loser is: Spazer... I guess since you aren't intended to have the great Plasma beam at the start you need SOMETHING. But I say this one could go and not be missed.
