Weird Adaware error

I recently installed adaware on my moms XP machine and it scans for a bit then XP craps itself like its been infected with Blaster only its not.. .wtf is going on? <img src=smilies/2gunsfiring_v1.gif>

PS.. can anyone reccomend a good free firewall app?

My guess is that it's infected by one of the pieces of spyware that actively interferes with Ad-Aware. Try http://security.kolla.de/Spybot - Search & Destroy</a> and see if it works. If it crashes as well, you may have to try and find a more obscure spyware scanner.

I'm a big fan of http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htmSygate Personal Firewall</a>. It's MUCH more streamlined than Zone Alarm, which I'm sure people will invariably recommend. I had a problem with Zone Alarm where if I shut the program down, it would still somehow block programs from accessing the Internet even though the firewall wasn't running. I've been using SPF for over 6 months now with no problems. Also, the firewall included with Service Pack 2 seems to work well for "normal" users.

i use kerio personal firewall, it works the best for me.

i havent tried sygate, but it could be better than kerio but i'm happy so i'm not changing
