I've never played Super Metroid. Will I be able to enjoy this, or should I play regular SM before playing this hack?

That's the problem . . . You can *see* the graphics that have been modified. You can *see* the seamless level design. But you *cannot* see the ASM hacks.

Trust me, just download it. I don't know why no screenshots were in the release thread, but there have been plenty of screenshots in earlier posts. I normally get pissed when I see what someone has done to the game. In this case, I am very pleased. Very inspiring for metroid hacking enthusiasts. Just have a look.

I've played it (and the NES one) and didn't see what the fuss was about. The NES version was especially easy to get lost if you didn't know where you were going. Not in a "Wow! I'm lost in the level and I'm going to have fun trying to find my way out!" kind of way, more like a "Okay, I just ran around for 30 minutes and I'm still in the same fucking place. Probably. I don't actually know where I am. Fuck it; I'm turning this shit off." kind of way.

99% of gamers will surely flame and disagree with me, but to me it was about as fun as running around those goddamn monotonous caves in Ultima Exodus.

As far as the NES Metroid is concerned, I agree 100%. I still managed to beat it, but it wasn't as fun an experience as I had expected. Never played Super Metroid (I have the cart, too...).

I can't believe so many people haven't played Super Metroid. It's like one of the best SNES games around (if a little easy)

Super Metroid did a great job of showing you your way through, while not forcing you go actually go that way (or directly telling you). If you stick with one path long enough, you'll get to where you want to go. Super Metroid is fantastically awesome that way. It like guides you without you realizing it.

However I can't defend the steaming pile of horse shit that is Metroid 1. It sucks total donkey balls. There's probably 15 unique maps in the whole game, the rest of it is recycled. So going from point A to point B involves trekking across the same map 6 times because they decided to copy/paste the same map 6 times over. Add a lack of any built-in mapping system and screens that all look alike, some drab music, controls that are ass, and you have one crappy game. I can't believe it was as popular as it was, but hey, if that's what led to the awesome sequels I guess I shouldn't complain.

Haha, I would not say this, but it is one confusing as hell game. I guess that's what Metroid: Zero Mission is for though.

I agree...it's one of those games I don't really get tired of playing.

I just figured I would note that a WIP was very recently released on Ipher's page and it seems like the game works perfectly fine now. :) Only tried it for a few minutes, but on the older version before this one graphics were garbled and they look just as you'd expect now.
