So this is how it feels.

... having gone to school for more than five years only to realize all the stuff you studied isn't applicable in the real world, where everyone expects you to have ten years of work experience, or to have worked for the government, even if you're just fresh out of college.

So in short, I wasted six years of my life in order to get a degree that doesn't do anything. A piece of fucking paper that nobody gives a damn about.

Congratulations on trying to pursue the american dream.

I recently heard a saying. They call it the american dream because it is nothing but a dream. <img src=smilies/cwm11.gif>

Yeah, that really sucks. What sucks more is that you'll probably land a nice job only if you know someone who already works at the company. From my experience, starting a career has nothing to do with your credentials, and everything to do with who you know. In summary, it's:

a) College.
b) ???
c) Profit!

If you're talking about the Carlin quote, it's "The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it."

Have you considered an internship? They pay crap to start, but they can be a gateway to a real job at the providing company. Plus, they give you coveted EXP for resume LVL UP.

I believe it has less to do with what they teach you and more to do with molding you in society's image.

I have a lot of good corporate resume exp that combined with your degree would open the doors to a lot of good paying jobs for you.

on my flipside however, i have no college degree, and only barely half-believe in any of mankind's institutions and generally have trouble fitting in; mostly related to frustration with how stupid and incompetent people are.

for these and other reasons of similarity, i had to pull the plug on my last good paying respectable neo in the matrix type of job and the only options i allow myself now are: musician, outdoors laborer, entrepreneur.

in fact, going to college would not help me much if at all since, as in your experience, they will not teach me much within the mandated curriculum that is needed in the job world, and i'm too evolved to be molded in society's image.

There's no such thing as internships for translators.

There's your mistake. You should have been an analyst or consultant. :p (not really though, those jobs would blow imo.)

Do not be so glum. Get your ass out there and put together some contacts. It is all about networking!

I went for 3 years to community college in Electronic Engineering Technology. I acheived honors and a few awards. I could not get a job in the industry. I had to work a year at a low paying slave wage ($9/hr) before i was able to land a $40/hr job in IT.

Considering all the people that hated me during school because I had REAL SKILLS now have cushy jobs in all the big offices here? I won't be able to land a job.

... I'll put it this way.

Even McDonald's won't hire me.

I will put it this way - Stop feeling sorry for yourself. You may have to move. Consider Alberta. If you can get into canada, that place is booming because of the oil sands.

I HAVE TRIED TO MOVE. I've been looking for jobs in OTHER STATES, but nobody will bother returning my calls, or when I do call for information, they say they will not pay for my relocation - when I don't even ASK that they do. I've got relatives that can help me with money to move. I can pay them back.

All I want is a fucking job. One that doesn't involve me getting in the military. Why is that so difficult to get?
