"Twenty years. Not many pop-culture icons last that long. Joining the ranks of Madonna and Elton John, lovable little pixelated Mario (of Nintendo fame) has hit the two decade mark as an international star.

Mario 20th LogoMario was created back in 1980 by famed game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Back then he was known simply as Jumpman, and he spent his time trying to outwit the dull-witted and overly aggressive Donkey Kong. He went on to team up with his brother Luigi in the arcade hit Mario Bros, but it wasn't until September 13, 1985 that Mario and family became A-list console stars in Super Mario Bros. The rest, as they say, is history."
