Game Genie on SNES2?

Earlier this week my friend bought a game genie for snes. We tried it out on my "SNES2" (as seen http://www.silicium.org/images/catalog/consoles/nintendo/snes/snes_sns-101_gros_plan.jpghere). The game genie lets you input codes, but when you get to the game none of the codes work... it's as if you arent using a game genie at all.

The game genie he bought wasnt in the best of condition, so I went back to the store and bought one that was in great condition. I tried it out to no avail. I tried it with multiple games and multiple codes, but it never works.

Does anyone know if the game genies work on SNES2, or only on SNES? For the record, my SNES2 was a gift years ago. If it was up to me, I would have bought the original. Any help would be awesome. Thanks, guys.

I don't see why there'd be any problem at all. Once the Game Genie connects to the cart, the SNES knows nothing of the original cart -- the only way it can receive cart info is after its run through the GG (where the GG would alter cart info at the appropriate times depending on your codes).

I would say it's not the SNES, but rather your GG. Have you tried it on any other SNES to make sure it's working?

I've tried two different Game Genies, so I assume it isnt that (but who knows). I'm going to see if I can test it with the guy at the video game store. I assume he has an original SNES. I figured I'd check here first to see if anyone knows for sure if there are weird issues with the SNES2's or not. The reason I think it's the SNES2 is the fact that sometimes when I attempt to play Donkey Kong Country, a screen comes up which informs me that I must use Nintento licensed products to play the game (or something. I cant remember exactly what it says because it's a bit of a rarity... but it has happened a number times).

Maybe Nintendo introduced some code or hardware that detects the presence of a GG on the SNES2 and disables it. I remember Nintedo was pissed off at the GG product.

But then wouldn't they render the game unable to load at that point? How does the system turn off the codes if the on/off switch is hardware on the Game Genie itself? Curious.

Exactly what I'm thinking. When a GG is hooked up, the SNES has no direct connection to the cart... everything the SNES sends/receives to/from the cart gets interrupted by the GG. So it seems only logical that the problem is on the GG end.

Who knows though. =/

Nintendo cut a lot of corners to reduce the size of SNES2 (for instance, SNES1 is S-Video capable, SNES2 is not).

It can obviously still read data off the cart, though. And if the GG is changing that data before it reaches the SNES... I don't see how the SNES can know the difference.... let alone prevent those changes

maybe a signature in the cart? i doubt it highly but its a possiblility (i've seen dumber things used)

I could see where it's possible that Nintendo did *something* to break GG compatibility...

Hell, between 2 different model 1 SNES units, my old Wildcard worked on mine (bought within the first year of release) but not in my brother's (bought a couple of years later). Never did try his later when I got my DX2...

DX2 works on all SNES1 units. Because I have one and use it on SNES1 and SFC1 (don't ask heh).

That sounds a LOT like a copy-protection/anti-piracy splash screen...that usually only happens when the game has built in functions that try to detect wether a game is being run via a real SNES/SNES cart (as opposed to a copier or something) or not...I'm not sure what would be causing that if all you're using is the SNES...that's just messed up.
