Fuck Cox Cable

I woke up this morning expecting to enjoy my regular morning ritual of looking at porn. Well, I start up firefox... And I realize I have no network connection.
I thought this strange, tried a few troubleshooting ideas and finally called Cox to ask why the fuck my internet wasn't working.

"Your account has been suspended." The weasly tech support guy said.
"Why the fuck was it suspended? I paid my bill." I told him indignantly.
"Illegal activity..." was his reply.
"What the fuck illegal activity? What do you mean?" I asked puzzled.
"It seems the file "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was downloaded to you hardrive via bittorrent. You must delete the file and all other FILE SHARING SOFTWARE. " said mr.dorkfag.

It seems the movie companies are monitoring torrents and reporting them to ISPs for downloading ONE movie. WTF man.

I ofcourse lied and said I deleted them and has my service restored... But it still was gay.

Fuck Cox Cable and the DMCA.

You just don't get it. Clearly, he was the victim here.

Yeah, well... you got your warning.
If it happens again, your ISP *WILL* pull the plug. Just because you have an internet connection doesn't give you the right to go frolicking about, downloading pirated movies and software haphazardly.

Once upon a time, there was some Windows 2000 SP1 source code floating around... idiot that I am, I downloaded it via BitTorrent, not knowing that Microsoft was watching that particularly download.

My access wasn't terminated, but I got a nice little happygram in my Cox email box forwarding a message from Microsoft... had my IP listed, the name of the file I was downloading, as well as a timestamp.

I wrote them back some BS letter saying that I deleted the file and that they would never again get another complaint. They never did.

There is a constantly growing "shitlist" of items that nobody should download from public P2P sites, because the copyright owners ARE watching very closely.

and for crying out loud, if you're caught, take the frickin' hint and don't go whining about it. Sheesh. :p

Heh... I was just thinking that if they did something like that to me, I'd take my business elsewhere.

Me too, I took my business elsewhere when my ISP started airing stupid commericals... well, that, and DSL magically got cheaper than dial-up.

How much were you paying for Dial-up? I pay 10 dollars a month (and as I have tried before, if I were in town I WOULD get the full speed my modem allows instead of about half as I get out here in the boonies).

$23.00 a month, I got webspace with it too, and unlike some ISP's I've dealt with the software they provided actually justified paying that much. The price of DSL has dropped to $15.00.

I wish I could get DSL here, let alone DSL as cheap as that.

Hm, DSL here is 14.95, but you have to pay for a phone line too (SBC = sucks) so the total cost ends up being $30-some :\

I miss Cox. A lot.
