DVD-R burning time?

I was going to get a DVD-+R/RW drive but was just curious how long does it take to copy a movie?

Heres what I got
512mb ram
amd xp2100
ati radeon 9600 256mb
xp pro

the Drive will most likely be 8X and I'll be doing DVD-R as its the most compatible of all. I've heard someone say 30min and another say 2 hours?

Off the top of my head, I'd guess that if a 700mb 80m CD-R burns in 10mins at 8x, then a 4.7gb DVD-R would burn in a smidgen over an hour, assuming that "8x" implies the same data rate on both formats. But I wouldn't be able to speak from experience here.

Nope. 1x speed dvdr = 9x speed cdr. See http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htmhere.

for a full DVD, expect 2.4x to burn at about 30 minutes, and 4x to take about 15.

your mileage may vary. my burning software (veritas recordnow dx, known under many other names) has this coaster protection thing where it'll slow down the transfer rate if the bus is chunkin' ... so... could take longer.

here's what I get

I have a 4x sony dvd burner, I love it. It will burn a full 4.7 gig dvd-r in 15 minutes. Now that's if you have the data already prepared.

if you wanna copy movies, then some of them you have to reencode, which could take hours. Some movies may use like 7 gigs for the movie, so you have to shrink it down, which may take about 2 hours, then another 15 minutes to burn. Some movies may have so much extra crap that they only leave 3 gigs for the movie itself, or be retarded like those who mastered the butterfly effect and put both theatrical and director's cut versions on a double sided disc, yeah, duplicate data on two sides, what a waste. if the movie is 3 gigs, then there's no need to reencode it, so it just decrypts it and that takes maybe half an hour. I use dvdshrink for my dvd pirating software.

Yeah, my Pioneer 4X takes about 15 minutes to burn a 4.7

I just found out that the Director's cut and normal versions are different. I saw the movie in the theater, and my dad saw the DVD. We were arguing about what happened in the movie. Turns out he watched the director's cut, which had different endings and maybe even some more differences.
