can anyone else get this damn thing to work? for some reason, it keeps telling me the file QBASIC.EXE is corrupt and can't be extracted, and it looks like the whole damn thing works around qbasic.

^ that's what winrar tells me, and winrar works on damn near anything.

I just downloaded a copy from http://www.dwedit.org/ and it extracted just fine with both XP's built in unzip ability and with WinRAR, so it sounds like you have a bad archive. If you downloaded it from here, then someone needs to check the local copy to make sure it's not corrupt as well. (Surprisingly, QBasic still works in XP. And, yes, the entire program is just QBasic source code, no compiled EXE, so you'll have to run the code yourself.)
