Do USB devices have trouble with extension cords?

I just bought a video capture device, and I figure, rather than having to drag my VCR or Dreamcast over to the computer, I'd use a couple of USB cables to keep the device near my television. But I don't know if using, say, a ten foot extension will make things slower or something.

Of course since I bought this thing used, I don't even know if it works. I have to test it first; I just want to make sure I can actually use this thing with long cables, you know?

I'm pretty sure they make extension cables that are 10 ft or longer, so I think you should be fine.

I sure hope so!

I don't want to buy ten feet of video/audio cables and stuff.<img src=smilies/cwm27.gif>

Except I can't find a flippin' USB hub that's cheap.

I looked for that item in Newegg and found something similar for ten bucks. Thanks for the help.

The listed maximum cable length for USB 2.0 is 5m. In practice, you can get away with a little more. Also, having a 10 foot extension cable attached to a 6 foot cable keeps you under the 5 meter mark by about 20 cm.
