Canadian Elections

As bad as the Adscam was that the Gomery Report revealed, is it really necessary to have this stupid election?

All the conservatives want is a term in the big mans chair for a while. It's pointless. Yes, Paul Martin admitted to knowing about it, but it was former PM Jean Chretien's fault for letting it go on. He knew, and he was getting his, as was most of the Liberal cabinet.

Do you think Paul Martin really had a hand in it? He may have known about it (How could he not know being the finance minister?), but I'm siding with him. Why else would he bring it up to the public? All that was needed was a reform of his party. I don't even think it's Paul Martin that Steven Harper is angry about, it's the rest of the party that might go bad again.

I'm not even voting. If you're a Canadian with some common sense, you won't feed the power hungry conservatives and not vote either.

Not voting is stupid, and I am a Canadian. You want things to change and you don't participate ?

Paul Martin is a power hungry corrupt asshole.

I want him gone. You are forgetting the gun registry. He has spent 2 billion on a program that he said would cost 20 million. It is horeshit. Now, he wants to ban hand guns completely. What an ass. He forgets to mention that with current rules, hand guns are practically banned. He goes after the LEGAL gun owners instead of the punks who are using ILLEGAL guns on the street. Fucken moron. This time it will cost 20 billion!

I have bad feelings about Steven Harper and the Reform/Canadian Alliance/Conservative party, but the best thing for Canada would be for him to get in power with a minority government

Where'd these numbers come from? Gun Control hasn't really been an issue, and it's a good thing he's banning them. Guns are useless and really only prove what a coward you are for hiding behind one. Plus, with this new legislation, if it exists, it is only contributing to stopping gun use.

PS: That post doesn't sound like you normally are with these things. You sure didn't repost that from somewhere?

Err, criminals, no matter what, will always have guns. I'm not sure what it's like in Canada, but here there are hardly any crimes commited by legal gun owners (Actually, I thought it was already illegal to own a gun in Canada), except for self-defense (And yes, it seems that's a crime here, if someone broke into my house and I shot him I'm the one that commited the crime... fucking backwards system)

I'm pro-guns, but you should have to pass a common sense test to get one, there are a lot of stupid people with guns out there...

Thank you, somebody gets it. You can ban guns all you want, you'll just be taking them from the legal owners and the people who never bother anyone with them. The criminals will find a way to get their hands on illegal fire-arms no matter what you do.

Sadly that is the truth. It's getting to where the real offenders have more rights than the victims.

Exactly. You should have to go through a more thorough examination. You must not have any previous counts for violent crimes or insanity, etc. And you must take a two-week(minimum) training course on proper gun safety. That would bring down the amount of stupid people with guns by a pretty good bit. There will still be stupid people getting ahold of them, that's impossible to stop, but at least there will be less.
Also, if you are conivicted of a violent crime in which you were at fault(Like bar fight, spousal abuse, etc.), your license is revoked.
Because if you're gonna go around being an ass, wavig your gun in people's faces or beating up people for no reason, you don't deserve a gun let alone being anywhere near normal, law-abiding citizens.

Canada:

You need a license to own a hand gun. You have to go through a training course to get the license. If you want to take your gun to a firing range, you have to to the local police office and get permission to take that gun. That gun must be locked in a case in the trunk of your car. The bullets must be in a separate case. If you go to the mall before or after you to to the driving range, you break the law and face fines.

So, Canada already does what you suggest (anally so). It is a piss off.

Ah, ever hear of target shooting? Ever here of gun collectors? Guns are not useless. Guns are used for sport.

No, I did not plagarize a post from another site.

Your being an ass. As for my numbers, just search the archives of any canadian newspapers (TO Star, TO Sun, Globe & Mail, National Post...whatever). It was a big story in all the papers a few years ago. I suspect it will come up again in this election sometime again.

Of note, I dont own a gun, but if i want a gun I will get one. If it is illegal to own a gun, I will own a gun illegally. It is not up to Paul Martin to decide whether I can own a gun or not.

Right now TO is having a problem with gun violence BECAUSE the gangs are shooting each other. These people don't own LEGAL guns Blade. These people do not want legal guns. If they owned a legal gun it can be traced back to them. They buy these guns ILLEGALLY on the street?

Where do these illegal guns come from? Are swiss cheese border! And no, I am not blaming are gun problems on Americans. I am blaming it on shitty border control.

This election promise is a sham to shore up liberal support from people like you in the urban areas.

Oh yeah, while were at it on a completely different topic, lets bring back the Spring bear hunt in Ontario.

That really defeats the purpose of keeping a gun for self-defense... <img src=smilies/eek13.gif>

Nope, that's the only part I like.
