* The film will be released on Dolby Digital 3-D projection, the first of its kind.
* The film will have a $200,000,000 budget, and possibly exceeding it.
* Many of the film's major characters, besides Alita, will also be CGI.
* There will be "Motorball" in the film.

I'd love to see motorball in a movie!

All I can say is that I hope they don't screw it up. A movie based on Battle Angel could be *really* good.

I was going, FUCK YEAH!...then I saw:

James Cameron said in an interview in 2005 that the film will get a strict PG-13 rating.

I retracted my 'YEAH!' and inserted, 'THEM!'.

Is there a more graphically explicit series than Alita? That life is worth nothing and everyone dies in horrible ways all over is part of the charm ffs you demented piles of donkeyshit. PG-13, yeah, in Bizarro world, where Bush is the smartest person alive and bitching about how the new president looks like a monkey.

Now, now, everyone can still die in horrible ways... just horribly offscreen. Plus there'll still always be that 2-episode OVA, right?

Oh yeah, speaking of Motorball which has the potential to become the greatest game in existence if done right, there's a 3min CG clip of Motorball in live action out there on the web, been searching for 30 mins now for a working link, anyone know?
It was released on a Japanese DVD together with the special edition Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) book #6 in Japan.

Also, there's a team doing a Motorball UT2k4 mod (kickass project, but I doubt anyone can make Motorball as awesome as portrayed in the series).

Yeah, but...but....a whole 3D-camera CGI film filled with brains painting the walls and cyborg-parts of the unlucky soul getting his spinal cord ripped out by the sexiest berserker armor in existance.
The amazingness of this can only be described in language too cool to exist.

Edit: Gah, twice I get it wrong.

Oh yeah, I remember reading about this. I honestly can't wait for the movie... however, I'm still wondering how the 3-D projection thing will work. It's supposedly not like IMAX... and the projection things are supposed to be installed in over 1,000 theaters across the country within the next 2 years. And I've also read that George Lucas wants to re-release his Star Wars movies in the new digital 3-D projection as well, since the 3-D projection part is all done in post production, it shouldn't be too tough and it actually sounds kind of cool.

But... pg-13? I wonder how they'll pull this off and still make it as great as it deserves to be?

On the topic of a manga/anime being turned to live-action movies, a Neon Genesis Evangelion movie is supposedly also on it's way with a budget of over 160,000,000. However, it's not even in production yet, but has been in the planning stages for a long time. http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/691/691631p1.html
