Bahamut Lagoon Glitch

Alright. This fucking game is pissing me off.

When I enter a battle when I give a "move" command to one of my parties the screen sometimes glitches up really bad. The sprites and the background become very corrupted.. Kinda like a dirty NES game would look.
Well, perhaps its because the checksum failed on my copy of the ROM I thought.
So I downloaded a new clean japanese rom and patched it myself and recieved good checksum. I still have the same fucking problem.

Could it be that I'm using the save-states from the bad copy of the ROM I had before?

Could be.

A save state is a dump of RAM. If you load a save state where corrupted code had been loaded into RAM, then that corrupted code will stay there until something gets loaded over it.

Moral of the story: Always use SRAM as a safety net.

I had it do that to me as well periodically... It seems it occurs more often when using save states and/or the speedup feature. If you make it into a "fight scene" I believe it will clear itself up (at least until it happens again).
