Misc. News: DarkMazda's Domain status news by zophar
21:28:  It appears that DarkMazda's Domain is not going down after all. Sycraft has talked with him and the site is now mirrored at http://sycraft.ml.org/darkmazda, where it will remain until he can find a permanent home. Thanks to Sycraft for letting ZD know about this!

Emulator Release: DTMNT 0.52 news by zophar
21:24:  A new release of DTMNT, A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles emulator for DOS, is now available. Here's what's new in DTMNT 0.52:

  • Thanks to help from 'Jesus LA' (thanks!) I changed the way the drum chip is emulated - it's much more accurate now. What this means is Orchestra hits (chord sounds) are now played
  • SBSND driver doesn't try to change mixer settings (people complained it was too quiet - use the Windows mixer, or DOS mixer program - I think it's more reliable)
  • Still the romset's sound is incomplete (this isn't up to me I'm afraid)!
  • Some people have a bug where if you use autoframeskip (which is the default) and SBSND, it hangs on a purple screen. If this sounds familiar, find out some more info (do you have a joypad on Grip mode... or something) and then e-mail me.

You can donload DTMNT 0.52 from the Single Arcade emulators page.

Emulator Release: uNESsential released! news by grimmett
16:53:  uNESsential, called by the author as "The crappiest NES emulator ever made", has been released! This emulator isn't anywhere near complete, and it was written in Quick Basic. Still, that won't stop Zophar's Domain from proudly adding it to it's NES Section, along with NESticle, fwNES, and BioNES!

You can get uNESsential from the NES Section.

Site News: More on www.zophar.net news by zophar
14:14:  As a reminder to everyone, http://www.zophar.net is our new address. You probably already know this, or else you wouldn't be here. zophar.malicia.com currently goes nowhere, and no emulation news pages seem to want to post that we've moved here, so if anyone asks where ZD went, you be sure to tell them :)

Emulator Release: Added GalEmu! news by grimmett
19:53:  I have added GalEmu, a simple Galaxian emulator, to the Arcade Section. It emulates Galaxian, some Galaxian bootlegs, and even more cheesy 80's space shooter games!

I do like small emulators like this, as I can take them to play on my school's lame computers. A 4-meg+ monster like MAME won't fit on a disk. I plan on passing some time in PASCAL class tomorrow with this :)

Get it from the Arcade Section.

Utility News: Tecmo Super Bowl Manager Added news by grimmett
19:33:  I have added Flash's Tecmo Super Bowl Manager to the rapidly filling Facelift Section. This utility basically allows you to customize that kickass NES football game to your liking! You can do whatever you want with this. Update the roster to today's players, make an Alaskan pink football team with a really vulgar name, or whatever the hell you want!

You can find Tecmo Super Bowl Manager in the Facelift Section.

Utility News: Duper 0.70 Released news by infe
20:11:  Duper is a universal ROM util that detects duplicate roms for many systems, edits headers, etc. New in 0.70:

    - UI improvements including full-row selection, perma-highlighting of dupes, dynamic dupe tracking which increments or decrements the unique count as dupes get deleted or modified, and sorting by any column (though the new sort routines are very slow; I'll find a better method soon)
    - Fixed some issues with NES editing
    - Fixed a bug with reading high mapper numbers
    - Added real CRC-32 calculation to NES roms, which will slow things down but make things much more accurate (doesn't include the header/title areas in calculation)
    - If you have a delimited list of NES checksums ('nescrcs.txt') with their matching title, duper will look through it and put the matching checksum's title in the 'Artificial Title' field; this behaves somewhat like the PCEID util for PCE ROMs...feel free to submit lists of additions/corrections to ash@baltimore.crosswinds.net
    - Added ability to launch items to easily test them (very rought around the edges right now...)
    - Added MP3 ID3 tag support, including mass-tagging
    - Added generic comparison of files in zips by their embedded CRCs
    - Sped up zip file processing
    - Better zip support; now actually looks into zips for suitable files instead of assuming there's only one ROM in them
    - Added IPS patching, courtesy of the uCON source.

You can download it at the general utilities page.

Translation News: Gryzor Patch Released! news by grimmett
23:43:  The Mad Hacker has released a translation patch for that kickass shoot em' up Gryzor, or Japanese Contra. The difference between the Japanese version and the English version of that NES game, which we all slept with under our pillows at night, is a storyline and improved graphics. This is really worth playing, so go find a ROM of this game (if you don't have it already), and apply this patch!

The patch for Gryzor can be found in the Translation Section.

Emulator Release: O2EM 0.701 news by zophar
13:59:  This is just a minor update to O2EM 0.70. From the official homepage:

  • The bug fix "Fixed the shape of the '$' character and added the missing 64th character" didn't make it into the V0.70 release for some reason, this version fixes that.

You can download O2EM 0.701 from the Odyssey 2 emulators page.

Site News: Site Record, 19 updates news by zophar

And I don't know of many emulation sites that have done that many in a day either. Yesterday was a big day, so be sure to read everything so that you don't miss anything!

Emulator News: PSyKe progress suspended for a month news by zophar
16:25:  PSyKe, the newest PSX emulator there is, is in trouble. The co author left the team, and RaskY isn't so sure he wants to continue it. Here's the full story, from www.psyke.com:

Sorry for this fast and stupid update, but it's late here and I'm too tired to code. I didn't have so much coding in last days, because I'm moving to another city, so I had other things to do. But, I'm sorry, I've a very bad news for you all. PSyKe is ufficially suspended for a month. mOoNsHaDo and me had some discussions in last days, and he decided to leave the team. I have some very talented friends that want to help me continuing PSyKe, but I'm not so sure that *I* want to continue PSyKe. This is why I'm suspending it for a month: I need to think. I hope that mOoNsHaDo will change his mind and go back working on it, I'm waiting for him. Otherwise, I'll let you all know what I'll do at the end of October. The site should not been updated until that date. And, please, please, don't mail me: I've decided to suspend it, and your mails are simply useless.

We at ZD wish RaskY and mOoNsHaDo the best of luck.

Site News: TurboExpress section sort of added news by zophar
05:18:  As I was looking at the site and trying to figure out what sections were missing, I realized that I never added the link for TurboExpress. Unlike the Sega Master System and GameGear, which shared very similar (almost identical) hardware and used different games for each system, the TurboExpress was IDENTICAL to the TG16, except for the fact that it was handheld. Since it runs the same games, all emulators that emulate the TG16 also emulate the Express. So yes, it's kind of a cheat, but hey, que sera sera, right? :)

Utility News: PCE-ID 0.003 news by zophar
04:48:  Yep, it's me, Zophar, doubling as utilities maintainer for now, until we find someone to maintain it (hint hint). This time, it's a new PCE-ID, which is a utility by the author of Hu6280 designed to identify every single Hu6280 card image that exists. It currently can identify 403 ROMs. There is but one change in PCE-ID 0.003:

  • Now contains mostly correct names + more rom info.

Download PCE-ID 0.003 from the Turbo Grafx 16 utilities page.

  • Fixed the following games to actually run:
    - Fixed 'Sonic Spike Volleyball (usa/jap)'

    - Fixed 'GAIA (jap)'
    - Fixed 'City Hunter (usa/jap)'

02:04:  Ming-yu Shih has coded a new (I could have said brand new, but someone else has patented it) GameBoy emulator for Windows 95/98, called SMYGB. Although it is a little slow (requires a P166 or greater for full speed), it has excellent sound, supports most GameBoy games, and other neat features:

  • Supports window and full screen modes of DirectX
  • Can play the sound like the real Game Boy
  • Support some SGB features
  • Can realtime save and load the game state

You can download SMYGB 0.10 from the GameBoy page.

Site News: More on the 1,000,000th hit news by zophar
01:31:  Well, it seems as though Nitro got the 1,000,000th visit to Zophar's Domain. He even posted about it before me. I had this whole thing planned out for the update, but I guess he beat me to it :)

So, I'd like to take this oppurtunity to thank everyone that has been visiting Zophar's Domain for the past 22 months (it'll be 2 years old very soon). I hope you all keep coming back, and if anyone would like to offer any suggestions, comments, anything, don't hesitate to e-mail me.

As a side note, a few people e-mailed me fake screenshots, and one additional person e-mailed me a real screen shot, but he was not really the 1,000,000th since the counter does not count reloads. Nitro is the real 1,000,000th.

Emulator Release: BrMSX 1.150 news by zophar
01:27:  Ricardo Bittencourt e-mailed us yesterday to let us know that he released version 1.150 of his MSX emulator for DOS, BrMSX. This would have been added yesterday, but the official homepage was down. Here's what's new:

  • Support to sprite collision detection ("Magical Kid Wiz", "Abu Simbel's Profanation", "Pitfall 2", "ON SPRITE GOSUB"). You can disable this feature with the option "-nosprcol".
  • Support to 8kb roms ("Frogger", "Video Hustler"). Thanks to Omar Mosqueda for the roms.
  • Support to MegaROM Mapper #8: original Panasonic FM-PAC with 8kb SRAM. Thanks to Sean Young for the info and Dal Poz for the dump.
  • VERY PRELIMINARY YM2413 (MSX-Music) emulation. Use the switch "-fmpac" to enable it. Thanks to Andre Delavy for the data book.
  • New and improved video engine, this make "-win" and "-dos" obsolete since this new engine is faster than both, and works in any OS. MMX users should still use "-mmx".
  • Fixed the support to 48kb roms ("Donkey Kong"). Thanks to Omar Mosqueda for the report.
  • Fixed a bug in video cache ("Red Moon"). Thanks to Jaime Galle for the report.
  • Fixed a bug in PSG registers 1,3,5 ("Crazy Train").
  • Fixed a bug in vertical position of zoomed sprites.
  • Fixed the sound sync bug, now the sound emulation should be a lot more stable.
  • Fixed a minor bug in LOAD ROM for MegaROM games. Thanks to Dal Poz for the report.
  • Fixed a bug that made BrMSX crash when executing code on a non-existent page. Thanks to Cyberknight and Adriano Cunha for the report.
  • Fixed emulation of R register in JR opcodes ("Magical Tree").
  • Fixed a problem of psggraph in SCREEN 0. Thanks to Cyberknight for the report.
  • Now BrMSX only saves the SRAM in disk when a cartridge actually has a SRAM ("Gall Force").
  • Now BrMSX adjust the system clock at exit. Thanks to Cyberknight for the report.
  • New debugger screens "3" and "4" (information on FM-PAC registers, SCC memory dump and VRAM dump).
  • Now the MegaRAM is cleared in a hard reset with TURN OFF. Thanks to Dal Poz for the report.

You can download BrMSX 1.150 from the MSX page.

Misc. News: The media on PSX emulators news by zophar
01:12:  IGN posted an article 2 weeks ago that I think deserves some mention. It talks about the PSX, the fact that it's being emulated, and more. Here's an excerpt:

Just recently, the idea of emulating the PlayStation has taken its first major steps toward reality. Two separate emulators have successfully replicated the console's basic operation – and more. Drawing on cutting-edge 3-D acceleration technology, they are able to not only run real PlayStation games, but run them better than the real thing… in some cases.

Thanks to Jason Z. for the news.

Emulator News: SNEeSe rumours news by zophar
01:08:  I've received a number of e-mails regarding SNEeSe, an SNES emulator for DOS that was recently discontinued, possibly being resumed very soon. Here's an IRC chat that ensued between Slaik and the 'mystery man':

TRAC - SNEeSe is NOT dead!
    Slaik - TRAC: Please explain.
TRAC - Simple - I used to be a co-author; I've received the go ahead to continue on the project.
    Slaik - Ahh... Cool.
TRAC - It was either that, or make a new SNES emulator... something I didn't want to have to bother with.
TRAC - expect some news on it in a couple weeks... until then... this is all that's being said... SNEeSe lives on...

    Can anyone else verify this?

  • Had to remove some memory allocated variables and convert them to arrays since they were causing random crashes on specific computers.
  • Fixed up pressing save state/load state in game so that it doesn't clear any key presses

Misc. News: Zophar's Domain Ripoff? news by swampgas
23:25:  As Links page maintainer, I feel obligated to relay this bit of info to you all...if someone already hasn't. I'm sure more ZD staff members will want to make news note about this as well.

Emulation Zone requested that I link to them, however, upon viewing their page, I saw a mirror of ZD with the colors changed. Heck, they even used my backup "Made with Notepad" graphic. This type of lameness shouldn't be tolerated amoung ourselves, and I encourage future web page designers not to "steal" the looks of other more popular sites, thinking that it will make you cool.

Sorry if I seem harsh, but I'll gladly rip up a site that is a rip off. The above comments are MINE and may not necessarily represent the views of other ZD staff members, Malicia, nor any other affiliated source.

Misc. News: Ripping ZD is becoming a trend news by [noam]

    Wow, his tables look...familiar..
Hrm, he's got a staff AND icons...wow..where've I seen that?
Oh and wow, look at that copyright at the bottom, this is clearly his own work.

Hrm, as I recall this is also the same person who stole information from Zophar and from Avatar_Z way back in the day. Yeah this guy is your genuine nut.

  • ...as a consequence, Set sound rate isn't in main screen anymore

There is only one, yeah. I'm just posting this as a message to the people that are wondering where the hell I've gone off to. Well, anyway. Instead of doing any decent work I've been playing Final Fantasy 7. At first I downloaded a ripped version from internet, played it for a while and then I decided that just because it's such a wonderful game I'd give my support to Swuare. So I and a friend(Lars) decided to buy it, so we split the payment for it and bought it. So now I've got FF7 with movies. Sweet? Yes :)
Don't use the ripped version. Buy it.

Site News: New sections news by zophar

So here's your chance to speak out! Anyone who loved an old system, and knows emulators exist for it, but that ZD doesn't have a section for, send me an e-mail and tell me what type of system you'd like to see ZD carry emulators for.

Site News: 1,000,000th visit coming soon news by zophar
21:18:  For those of you who never noticed, ZD *DOES* have a counter, at the very bottom of this page. It's currently at about 981,000 hits. What does this mean? It means that our 1,000,000th visitor will be upon us within a week or so. So keep your eyes peeled, and if you're the 1,000,000th, be sure to drop us an e-mail.

Site News: Total dropped from ZD staff news by staff
18:02:  As many of you unix-using visitors of ZD may have noticed, we have neglected the Unix sections of ZD lately. In fact, over the past 3 months, we have porobably had less than 10 updates having to do with Unix emulators. Why is this? Well, the maintainer of the emulators for unix pages, Total, was not doing the best job. So, he has been let go. However, we hold no grudges against Total. We wish him the best of luck.

Anyone who has the time and energy, and wants to maintain the emulators for unix pages, please e-mail Zophar. Note:you MUST be experienced with Unix operating systems.

Utility News: Added PCE-id! news by grimmett
01:14:  Jamsponge, one of the authors of Hu6280, has released PCE-id. PCE-id is a utility that identifies your TurboGrafx ROMs, and currently supports 251 different ROMs. It can be found in the rather barren TurboGrafx 16 Utilities Section.

Emulator News: Virtual GameBoy 1.2 coming soon news by zophar
01:02:  I've just received an e-mail from Marat Fayzullin, author of iNES, VGB, MasterGear, and various other emulators coded in C. Basically, VGB 1.2 is coming very soon! Here's the e-mail:

Virtual GameBoy 1.2 is coming soon to a WWW site near you. Among features are faster emulation (due to some optimizations in memory access), multiple bugfixes to serial I/O and display controller, bugfixed MBC3 mapper emulation, separate GameBoy and Pocket GameBoy modes, almost-perfect Super GameBoy emulation (no more color glitches, no more scrambled SGB frames, etc.), and also preliminary emulation of GameBoy Color.

Other features (present in the current version):

  • Up-to-date ports to Windows, MacOS, Windows CE, various Unices, and Linux, as well as many other ports (not necessarily up-to-date)

  • Super GameBoy emulation

  • Game Genie emulation

  • MBC1/MBC2/MBC3 support (MBC5 support is coming)

  • Saving soundtrack directly into MIDI files

  • Automatic CRC/CMP check

  • Resizable window (VGB-Windows)

  • Settings saved individually for each game based on game name embedded into a cartridge (VGB-Windows)

  • Joystick support (VGB-Windows)

  • Battery backed RAM saved into .SAV files (all of it now, not just the first 8kB)

  • Sound (except noise channel) emulated via wave synthesis (VGB-Unix and VGB-Windows) and via MIDI (VGB-Windows only).

  • Cartridge handling based on the GBCarts library available for use by the other authors (see http://www.komkon.org/fms/EMUL8/)

  • Be sure to keep an eye on http://www.komkon.org/fms/VGB/, the official VGB Homepage.

Emulator Release: Hu6280 1.80 news by zophar
00:58:  Jamsponge has released version 1.80 of his Turbo Grafx 16 emulator for DOS, Hu6280. Here's what's new:

  • Removed gtmode because it was shit, and it was slowing shit down.

  • Fixed Sprite bug in 'wondermomo'

  • Fixed Sprite bug in 'keith courage'

  • You can download Hu6280 1.80 from the Turbo Grafx 16 page.

Site News: Poll updated! news by grimmett
00:53:  I have also updated the polls tonight. Here are the results of the last poll, "So, why are you into emulation?":

Choice 1 was: "To relive the classics!"
It received 25 votes (6.4 percent).

Choice 2 was: "To play games which I never got a chance to play."
It received 47 votes (12 percent).

Choice 3 was: "To pirate software, especially the newer stuff!"
It received 9 votes (2.3 percent).

Choice 4 was: "Because it's fun!"
It received 24 votes (6.1 percent).

Choice 5 was: "Because I have nothing better to do."
It received 5 votes (1.3 percent).

Choice 6 was: "I'm not into emulation."
It received 2 votes (0.5 percent).

    Choice 7 was: "Choices 1 and 2"
It received 158 votes (40.3 percent).

    Choice 8 was: "Choices 1, 2, 4, and 5"
It received 93 votes (23.7 percent).

Choice 9 was: "Different Combination of Choices"
It received 21 votes (5.4 percent).

    Choice 10 was: "Other"
It received 8 votes (2 percent).

The main reasons most of the voters are into emulation are to relive their fond childhood memories of things like beating TMNT in the arcades with their friends. Another large reason is to play games that they never had a chance to play, like Final Fantasy 5 and games before their time. The voters also expressed that emulation helps to alleviate boredom and make life more fun.

The new poll is, "Should newer systems/games be emulated, if possible?". Voice your opinion on this in the Poll Section now!

Site News: CHT archive added, other archives updated news by alamone
00:38:  Hi guys. On request (a while ago) I have added a .CHT archive for ZD. Right now there's only one .CHT, so contribute your .CHT collection (but remember one game per .ZIP). Check it out here. In addition, I've updated the other archives: SPC, SRM, and ZST. The SPC page now also has links to SPC players. Have fun, and if you have suggestions for new save archives don't hesistate to e-mail. (A ZSNES movie archive is up and coming, so please don't ask about that.)

Utility News: GunEdit v1.0 Released! news by grimmett
00:03:  I have added yet another SnowBro facelift utility, GunEdit. This is a level editor for that game you probably played for hours upon hours when you were a kid, GunSmoke. It can be found in the Facelift Utilities Section.

Yeah, I know I quit the Utilities Section, but since no one else is doing it, I shall do updates when and if I feel like it. Note that I have not quit working for Zophar's Domain, I just really cannot do a good job of keeping the utilities up to date, at least on weekdays. I still care for this site. Again, please DO NOT ask to be the maintainer of the utilities, FAQ, poll, pornography, or whatever section.

Emulator Release: SNEeSe 0.16f Released and Project Discontinued news by XiP
14:57:  Savoury SnaX, the author of SNEeSe, has discontinued the emulator, but not before posting the final version online. Here's whats new in version 0.16f:

  • Compatibility is vastly improved

  • More ROMs play music

  • New screen modes available

  • Various bug fixes

  • "Thanks for all the support and perhaps a future system will take my fancy and I will be back, but for now goodbye and good luck to all the authors of emulators world wide!"

Good luck to you too Savoury SnaX. You can download the final version of SNEeSe on the SNES page.

Utility News: WinSPC; PSEmu Pro Plugins added news by grimmett
14:07:  I've added a new section to Zophar's Domain, the PSEmu Pro Plugin Section. Here you can find the necessary plugins to get PSEmu working, if you haven't already.

I've also added WinSPC, an SPC player for Windows that uses the sound engine of Snes9x. It's really easy to use, as it's simple in design, and I recommend getting it if you're into video game music. You can find WinSPC in the SNES Utilities Section.

I'd also like to announce that I am leaving the position of Utilities Maintainer at Zophar's Domain. I no longer have the ridiculous amount of free time I did this summer anymore, so I can't do a quality job of keeping the utilities section up to date. For example, I should have done this update days ago. I'll try to keep the FAQ and polls updated when I have the time to do so. Also, please DO NOT ask me, Zophar, or anyone else to be the utilities maintainter.

Emulator News: Retrocade 'babe' patch news by zophar
16:17:  By now, most of you have tried out Retrocade, and I'm sure you've noticed 'Retrobabe', if you have all the GUI files, every time you start Retrocade :) Well, Zoop has made a patch for those of you who use Retrocade and its GUI. It gives Cyberbabe a more 'natural' look ;-)

  • Misc. News: MAME website moves news by zophar
14:13:  The official MAME website moved yesterday to http://mame.retrogames.com/, so update your bookmarks. I found this out from Emu News Service. I would have liked to post this sooner, but instead I received 24 e-mails about the new ZSNES instead, and had to find this out on my own.

Emulator News: Note about SideWinders and ZSNES 0.625 news by zophar
14:05:  For those of you (ie most of you) that have trouble using your SideWinders in the new ZSNES, remember to go to options in the GUI, and select 'sidewinder fix'. The reason that you need to check this is that the sidewinder routines were 'tweaked' for the 2% of people who were having problems using SideWinders, and the new routines don't seem to work very well for many people.

Site News: More on the upcoming Sinclair ZX Spectrum section news by zophar
13:52:  Javagod (ie, a member of the staff who isn't lazy) updated yesterday to inform all of you that we will be adding the Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator section sometime during the next week. You might want to know that of the 21 e-mails I got with reference to the Spectrum section, only one person didn't want the Spectrum section. He instead wanted a ZSNES movie archive. Sorry, but that's up to alamone bub :)

Misc. News: FFV Petition news by zophar
13:49:  Although this has absolutely nothing to do with emulation, I have a number of updates to due today due to LSS (Lazy staff syndrome). An FFV petition has been set up at http://www.thegrid.net/kin/ff5/petition.htm. For anyone who would like to see FFV translated by Squaresoft and come out for the PSX, you will probably want to sign it. Otherwise, you can always download the FF5 patch and play it on ZSNES :)

Misc. News: PSEmu page problems news by zophar
13:46:  Anyone who has problems getting to the PSEmu Homepage, you should know that they just changed servers and it will take a few days for the domain to update for everyone, so if you can't access the page, sit tight.

Emulator Release: ZSNES 0.625 news by zophar
13:31:  zsKnight, _Demo_ and Pharos released version 0.625 of ZSNES last night, while I was asleep (I feel asleep very early last night) and my staff didn't seem to feel like doing the update... but more on them later. Here's what's new (and there's a LOT, including a speed increase and movie saving ala NESticle):

  • Fixed up a major speed drop bug by just adding some empty space. Most likely a cache/alignment problem.

  • Used an older version of wdosx because the new version sometimes crashes during compiling

  • Executable is now uncompressed. It's 3 megs, but it provides a much faster start up time.

  • Seems like EPACK can only support a maximum of 6 commandlines. Fixed after executable is decompressed

  • Fixed a bug where buttons 7 and 8 of 8 button joystick support sticks once pressed

  • Swapped button 5/6 and 7/8 in the default joystick configuration for 8 button joysticks

  • It seems like 16bit HDMA < 5 was causing problems with some sound cards. It now reroutes back to 8bit DMA like how v0.400 did it.

  • Implemented a new offset per tile mode engine into the old graphics engine (mostly transferred from 8bit newgfx engine)

  • Implemented Horizontal offset per tile mode in both 8bit and 16 bit old graphics engine (Mode2/8x8 only)

  • Implemented Horizontal offset per tile mode in 8bit new graphics engine (Mode2/8x8 only)

  • Tweaked sidewinder routines. Hopefully, this will help those who have troubles using sidewinder support

  • For those with sidewinder pads who has troubles with the tweaked routines, a 'Sidewinder Fix' option in the GUI is added in the Config/Options menu

  • Commandline -i now uninterleaves an incorrectly interleaved rom

  • Tweaked GamePad Pro routines. Not exactly sure if this will help those with 2 GPP joysticks though

  • Fixed up sticky buttons in the GUI cheat menu when no cheat codes are present

  • Fixed a bug where using -1 and -2 in the commandlines didn't activate the joystick movement/buttons

  • Fixed an offset per tile mode wrapping bug

  • ZSNES will now not crash when zsnes.cfg and zguicfg.dat are write protected files

  • Fixed up the GUI when 239 y resolution is used in the game

  • Optimised some minor mode 7 routines

  • SNES Header display in the GUI now displays the filename for blank headers. This will fail for headers with garbled header names

  • Inserted an extra reminder in the cheat menu

  • Implemented 239 y-resolution support for .PCX snapshots

  • Implemented 239 y-resolution support for .BMP snapshots

  • Added multiple .SPC saves (Up to 10 saves only)

  • Save State Selection Menu (default F3) now highlights used state boxes in red

  • Tweaked 2player/6button/8button joystick routines a bit

  • Fixed a cheat code bug where pressing TAB adds an extra character at the end of the address

  • Removed the blank line from the .PCX and .BMP snapshots

  • Implemented Joystick Calibration for non digital joysticks

  • Fixed a bug where parallel port LPT2 player 2 wasn't selectable in v0.605

  • Stabilized the joystick code a bit

  • Fixed up a cheat code bug where using a PAR code that accesses RAM doesn't freeze when the .cht file is loaded

  • Added a small delay to play a note when a key on is issued from the sound DSP. Not sure if this fixes anything though

  • Fixed some sound compatibility problems when RESET is used

  • Implemented Movie Record/Playback support. Read GUINotes.txt for details.

  • Added a small detection for long filenames and prevented users from selecting it when it isn't detected

  • Fixed a bug where max frame skip didn't save

  • Fix a timing bug where running a game off the gui ran 1 less line in the 65816 than running off the commandline

  • Implemented FPS at start option in the Config/Options menu

  • Fixed a bug in the newgfx16bit engine where 8bpp tiles displayed incorrectly

  • Reduced the filesize by 1200k through many changes in the code (filesize is now 2.0 megs)

  • Fixed some VIRQ bugs that caused certain games to crash

  • Added DMA area execution for IRET

  • Added a 'Bugs Section' in the readme.txt

  • Show all extensions is now disabled when snes header view is selected in the GUI

  • Implemented partial Direct Color mode in Mode 7 (no transparencies yet, only works in 16bit old gfx engine)

  • Improved header detection a bit

  • Fixed up a sprite bug in games which changes the address in the middle of the screen

  • You can download ZSNES 0.625 from the SNES page. The mirror and shrines will be updated eventually (see Webster's New World dictionary: 'lazy staff').

Misc. News: Regarding Sega CD and emulation news by zophar
23:52:  Over the last year, I have gotten so much e-mail asking about why Sega CD emulators don't exist. I finally am ready to pour out my thoughts to you.

Anyone who has owned a Sega CD probably owns the Lunars. Therefore, I am sure these people know that if there is ANYONE who would like to see the Sega CD emulated, it would be me. However, there are still no Sega CD emulators, and there are many reasons. And here they are:

  • The Sega CD was a bomb. Yes, there were many good games, like the Lunars, Shining Force CD, and others. Unfortunately, it DID bomb, partly because of all the FMV crap games. And as such, many programmers out there haven't liked the Sega CD enough to write an emulator for it.

  • There is very little tech info available on the Sega CD. And I mean *very little*. Yes, the SNES also had very little tech info, and much has been figured out through reverse engineering and trial & error. But the SNES was a very popular system, going back to point 1.

  • It's a CD system, and many people don't see the use of emulating it. I see many uses, and so do many others, but you have to realize that most don't.

  • So there you have it. If anyone out there wants to write a Sega CD emulator, by all means, the world would welcome one (or at least I would). Hint hint...

Misc. News: Online video game manuals news by zophar
23:43:  A while back, many of you may remember ZD wanting to add online manuals to the site. Well, unfortunately, the person who was to do this page, whose name will not be mentioned, never followed through. However, another site seems to have started an online manual page, and it's located here. Check it out when you get some time.

Emulator Release: WinUAE experimental Beta released! news by bnu
15:54:  Yeah, yeah all you Amiga emulation fans out there. Now WinUAE has been released in a new experimental beta. This new beta adds support for bsdsocket.library, which helps network-using Amiga applications. This beta should not be used, however, if you're not familiar with UAE and can't stand code that's a bit buggy.

If you think you can handle it, then you can get it from the Amiga emulators page.

Emulator Release: New CCS64 Beta released! news by bnu
15:20:  A new beta version of CCS64 has been released! For those of you who don't know what CCS64 is, it's a Commodore 64 emulator. Just for your information: The Commodore 64 is NOT a 64 bit system, it's an old home computer :) Anyways, here's the news:

  • Speed-o-meter option in the specials menu. This shows the speed compared to real C64 and how many frames per second that are actually drawn to the screen.

  • The DOS version now has VESA screen modes like 512x384, 640x480 and 800x600.

  • Speed increase.

  • For the DOS version the syncrate option "Screen" now syncronizes to the vertical blank.

  • You can get it from the Commodore 64 emulators page.

Site News: Submitting updates news by zophar
23:59:  Hello again, Zophar here. This is an announcement to let all of you know that over the last few weeks, very few of you have been submitting updates to ZD. One of the best ways we get information on new emulators and such is from you, and without your support, we can't provide you with the greatest service, fastest news, and so forth. It does me no good to send me updates about 'zsnes 0.600', which I already know about days in advance (I run the mirror site, remember?) So, remember, to submit news to ZD, use the Submit news form, or e-mail me. Remember, we can only do this with you.

Emulator Release: MSKISS 0.0.9 news by zophar
23:53:  Here's another emulator that I never seemed to have on ZD. This one's an MSX emulator, coded in C. It's for DOS. Although it's not the fastest in the world, and is missing many features, you may want to check it out just for same. Here's what's new (as opposed to what's old):

  • Original FM-Pac (64 KB) mapper added

  • PSG registers 1,3 and 5 properly masked

  • GUS Sound bug corrected

  • VESA 2.0 Routines now correctly coded

  • SB-Digital detector added

  • Minor corrections to SCC pitch

  • Slightly corrected the GUS noise-freq table (still more work needed, but now it's near perfect)

  • Converted to inline code for faster performance

  • You can download MSKISS 0.0.9 from the MSX page.

Site News: Sinclair Spectrum section? news by zophar
23:39:  This is a question that I'm posing to all people who visit ZD. Would any of you be interested if Zophar's Domain were to put up an emulator section for the Sinclair Spectrum? There seem to be a ton of emulators available for it, yet I've never used or owned a Spectrum, nor do I know what one looks like, or what software was available for it. E-mail me, and if I get a lot of e-mails in favor of it, I'll add one within a week or two.

Emulator Release: Come Back 64 0.93 news by zophar
23:34:  ZD has just been made aware of a Commodore 64 emulator which was never featured here before. It's called Come Back 64 (for DOS), and seems to have been around for a while, as there have been around 10 updates to it so far. It features sound, good compatibility, and free source code. Here's what's new since 0.92 (although this is the first version to be uploaded to ZD):

Misc. News: Retrocade GUI Addon news by nitro
18:32:  Well, yesturday I didn't upload the GUI for Retrocade... but today, when I looked over it, WOW, I must say.. it was the best GUI I have ever seen. So, I uploaded all the files for the GUI. Take a look at it now, even if you just want to see this GUI.. (:

You can get Retrocade and the GUI Addon at the Multiple Arcade emulator page.

Frontend News: UZI 0.90! news by bnu
16:01:  UZI, the only frontend for ZSNES currently updated for the newest version of ZSNES has arrived. This new version adds, of course, support for all the options of the new ZSNES, plus it adds a speed boost to ZSNES by raising it's priority.

You can get it from the SNES emulator frontends page.

Frontend News: SNEqr source code released! news by bnu
15:56:  That's right boys and girls(heh)! The source code for that SNES emulator with a really cool GUI but no sound has been released! As it seemed in the e-mail that Qwertie sent to Zophar he's no longer got any time to work on it. So if you figure you're a talented programmer then go check out that source code, figure out how everything works and then you add the sound support :)

You can get the source code from the SNES emulators page.

Frontend News: NeoRAGEFront 1.6.0 news by bnu
15:53:  NeoRAGEFront has been updated again! This one is, in my opinion, the best NeoRAGE frontend to use among all of them. Being the most regularly updated that also means it will be the most bugfree one :)

    Here's the news:

  • Cosmetic changes

  • Better support for the 2nd screenshot.

  • Well I'm sure nobody cares but I've added a small but functional screenshot manager ;-)

  • And some extras... (double-click on a shot to launch a game, etc...)

  • You can get it from the Arcade emulator frontends page.

Emulator Release: Retrocade for DOS. news by nitro

You can get the DOS version at the Multiple Arcade emulator page.

Emulator News: Nofrendo author's computer stolen. news by nitro
02:03:  Here is what's on the Nofrendo's page:

Sorry there haven't been any updates. My computer was stolen on Aug. 24th, and all the Nofrendo source code was lost. =( Seriously, this sucked dick with a dry mouth.

Don't fear, though, work has begun on Nofrendo 2, and the core is nearly complete, including full sound. More to come later. This project has not been cancelled!

We here at Zophar's Domain are totally sorry for what happened, and we wish good luck to Matt Conte.

Emulator Release: New N64 emulator: NINCEST 64 news by zophar
20:43:  A new Nintendo 64 emulator has been released by Maruis Dumitrean, otherwise known as 'faraway' on IRC. This emulator, although it cannot play any games, can run some N64 demos, such as the Firedemo, and N64stars. Please don't bother faraway with requests, bug reports and the like, since this is a very early beta.

You can download NINCEST 64 0.04b from the N64 page.

Emulator Release: RockNES 0.54 news by zophar

  • An option to specify a ROM directory location in the configuration file.

  • You can download RockNES 0.54 from the NES page.

Site News: Emu News Service reaches 10 mill news by zophar
18:26:  I guess that it should be noted here that Emu News Service, an emulation news website which has been around since April 1997 (and many of you visit regularly), has reached 10,000,000 visits on its counter. Congratulations and stuff.

Speaking of which, ZD is not too far away from 1,000,000 visits (see the counter at the very bottom of this page for the current count). So if you are the 1,000,000th, let me know. Note that my counter does not count reloads. (If it did, the count would be very high and way off).

Emulator News: True Reality & NSFE homepage moves news by zophar
18:21:  TrueReality, an N64 emulator for UNIX systems, and NSFE, for Windows 9X, have had a homepage address change. They are now located at http://www.snes9x.com/n64emulators/

This change has been made on the N64 emulators for UNIX page, since the current emulators for unix maintainer is leaving soon, and doesn't seem to be doing much these days.

Emulator Release: XPCE 0.07 news by zophar

Emulator Release: The Marble Madness Emulator 0.2 news by zophar
18:00:  A new version of the fastest Marble Madness emulator, known as 'The Marble Madness emulator', has been released. This build is much faster than the first release. Here's what's new in version 0.2:

  • Added support for DirectDraw full-screen mode (big performance increase - now runs full speed or better on my P133)

  • Replaced Windows menus and dialogs with an 'on-screen-display' type interface. Invoke it with the [TAB] key.

  • Fixed the inter-cpu communications (unfortunately the game still won't coin-up. Keep using FREEPLAY mode for now. Also, for some reason, the coin switches only work with romset 1, so currently the emulator will only work with that set.)

  • You can download The Marble Madness Emulator 0.2 from the Single Arcade emulator page.

Emulator Release: NESemu 0.40a news by zophar

Site News: Links Page news by swampgas
12:08:  Ok guys...this time I'm announcing that the Links page has been updated. Contrary to popular thought, it's updated quite frequently; refer to your browsers help file under 'Refresh' or 'Reload'. Once again, I'll explain this: If the site contains broken rom links, tons of banners, or pop up windows, I'm probably not going to add it. I receive lots of email and only choice sites deserve to get a link. If you notice a link is broken or has changed, email me and I'll see to it that it gets the proper changes done. Unannounced updates usually occur on weekends.

On a more personal note and in reference to the current message board postings, I consider myself above the name-calling and accusing that is going on in there - you will not get a response out of me.

Site News: New Utilities, New Poll! news by grimmett
00:45:  Sorry if I haven't been too involved in the page lately, as my birthday was on the 9th, and I've been playing Rainbow Six intensely for the past few days... that game is incredible!

Anyways, I have added some more PSX utilities and two new SNES utilities to the Utilities Section. Go check them out.

In addition to that, I added a new poll. Here are the results from the last poll:

What systems have you been playing emulators for lately?

    Choice 1 was: "Neo*Geo"
It received 61 votes (20.1 percent).

    Choice 2 was: "Arcade"
It received 21 votes (6.9 percent).

Choice 3 was: "Super Nintendo Entertainment System"
It received 129 votes (42.6 percent).

    Choice 4 was: "Sega Genesis"
It received 21 votes (6.9 percent).

Choice 5 was: "Nintendo Entertainment System"
It received 56 votes (18.5 percent).

    Choice 6 was: "Game Boy"

It received 4 votes (1.3 percent).

Choice 10 was: "Other, newer (PSX, N64, etc)"
It received 2 votes (0.7 percent).

Well, it seems as if the lovely new ZSNES sure rekindled some interest in one of my favorite consoles! The SNES dominated the polls, receiving 42.6% of the votes. The Neo*Geo, which has gotten an enormous amount of popularity due to some of the ROM releases, was the runner up. The ever so classic (but still kickass) NES wasn't far behind, and came in third.

Oh, and the new poll is "Why are you into emulation?"

Emulator Release: ZSNES 0.605 news by zophar
22:09:  Yet another bugfix followup to ZSNES 0.600, this one fixes a few more bugs, and adds a couple new features. Here's what's fixed, and the new features:

  • Fixed up a FPS display bug when switching between auto frame rate and manual frame rate in the GUI

  • Cheat Codes can now be toggled ON/OFF by double clicking on them

  • Tab key now switches from the Cheat Code enter box to the Description box

  • Fixed a Save State/Load State bug in the menu where it saved in the load directory instead of the save directory

  • Implemented 8button joystick support (Not tested)

  • Implemented an option in the .cfg file to enable reversed stereo sound (ReverseStereo)

  • Implemented an option in the .cfg file to share Player 1 and Player 2 controls with Player 3 and Player 4's controls. This option allows you to use 2 devices (Joystick and Keyboard) for both player 1 and player 2, but this also disables MultiTap support. (Pl34to12Share)

  • Added Reverse Stereo to the GUI under config/sound

  • Added Player 3, Player 4 to use as Player 1, Player 2 in the GUI under config/options

  • Compiled under a new version of wdosx. Hope this doesn't cause any problems

  • You can download ZSNES 0.605 from the SNES page.

Site News: The current state of UNIROM news by bnu
04:52:  Hey all you ROM hackers and game translators out there! Time for a new news report about UNIROM, the universal ROM text editor.
The current state of the new UNIROM is that it's almost at full functionability by now. And by saying almost I mean ALMOST. The speed has been decreased due to improved functionality. But I hope that the Speed isn't really a problem, since the Features should make up for it. Now the new .DTX files support ANY dual HEX value, so you don't have to worry about the limitations of the last UNIROM. The bookmark files have been changed and made easier to use. No more multiple page shit, I mean. You don't have more than 16 bookmarks at once anyway. The script dumping has been rewritten, due to the use of the new .DTX files and is slightly, but just slightly, slower. The search function does not work, and I don't know if I want to fix it. It was so slow, and I can't really find any way of fixing that. A real GUI is not far away at all, in fact I've already "made" one that I will release to my beta testers as soon as I get a chance to do so.

You haven't tried UNIROM? Well, you COULD always try the old version available from the UNIROM homepage, but I don't recommend you to do so though. It lacks a lot of functionality that the new version will have when it's released.

Emulator Release: ZSNES 0.601 news by zophar
02:31:  A minor bugfix update to ZSNES was just released, only 2 hours after the initial release. Here's the fixes:

  • Fixed up a sound card deinit bug that sometimes caused ZSNES to crash in certain sound cards

  • Disabled Autoinit mode when a low sampling rate is used in 8bit sound. Probably was also causing problems in some cards

  • Note that I didn't experience either of these bugs with my AWE64. You can download ZSNES 0.601 from the SNES page.

Emulator Release: ZSNES 0.600! news by zophar
23:31:  After months of waiting, rumours, and other fun things, zsKnight, _Demo_, and the most recent addition to the ZSNES team, Pharos, have released version 0.600 of what (if you didn't think so before, you should certainly think so now) is the most complete and ultimate SNES emulator around. Here is the longest list of changes I have ever put on this front page for ZSNES 0.600:

  • Added partial 65816 execution in the DMA registers (doesn't seem tofix much due to some other problem) Thanks to Alucard for this info! This also slowed down emulation a bit.
  • Implemented sprite priority correction into the new graphics engine
  • Implemented mosaic into the new graphics engine
  • Implemented true 512 horizontal resolution into new graphics engine (both 16x8 and 16x16 tile modes)
  • Implemented interlaced 448 vertical resolution into new graphics engine
  • Implemented offset per tile mode into the new graphics engine (Mode 2/Vertical only). More accurate compared to the old graphics engine. (seems to be a bug where the game gets very slow sometimes though)
  • Started 16-bit new graphics engine
  • Implemented sprite priority correction in 16bit new gfx engine
  • Implemented palette raster effects in 16bit new gfx engine
  • Fixed a minor bg enable/disable bug in the new gfx engine
  • Multiple SPC700 bug fixes. More games run now!
  • Implemented SPCPlay sound engine into zsnes :
  • * Echo & FIR Filter Support (Slowed down emulation, but gives better sound) Thanks to feenix65 for info on FIR Filter!
    * Volume fixes
    * Rewrote ADSR/GAIN engine
    * Added Adjustable Volume through the commandline and zsnes.cfg
    * 16000 and 32000 extra sampling rates
    * Many other bug fixes
  • Fixed a minor HDMA bug
  • Fixed an old style joystick read bug that prevented the joypad from functioning in certain games
  • Several optimisations on Echo & FIR Filter
  • Several Sound DSP Fixes
  • Temporarily fixed a V-latch bug in some games that don't update the display at every frame
  • Add/Removed some game hacks for compatibility
  • Modified Song Start Search in .spc capture. Should be much better now.
  • Fixed a sprite window clipping bug where it was used when it's not supposed to be.
  • Modified memory allocation technique in zsnes. This should now eliminate some random crash errors. Thanks to Y0SHi for this info!
  • -c now does full screen instead of small screen in 640x480 modes. For small screen, use -cc
  • Fixed a back area 1/2 addition bug which caused the background to be sometimes darker than usual
  • Fixed a mode 7 transparency bug
  • Added 8-bit stereo sound and 8-bit sound high speed mode support (high speed mode support is just the implementation of 8bit 44100khz or 22050khz stereo) Thanks to Crono for a lot of help on this!
  • Fixed up sound blaster deinit code Thanks again to Crono!
  • Wrote an entirely new GUI :
  • * Mouse driven GUI/Menu Based
    * Full Keyboard Support in all the Quick (Arrow Menu), Load, and Cheat menu items
    * Ability to display load names under 8.3 filename format, snes header name, and win95 long filenames
*Support for Save State, Load State, and Select State through menu items
    * Quick Load Menu (Arrow menu) which allows you to quickly load the last 10 games loaded
    * Ability to Freeze or Clear the Quick Load Menu
    * An Options menu which allows you to configure settings such as video mode, sound settings, frame skip, etc.
    * Added the ability to customize the game keys such as the save state key, misc toggles, etc.
    * A lot more, read whatsnew.txt
  • Fixed a bug when clearing the screen in 640x480x65536
  • Implemented full add, half add, full subtract, and half subtract into the new 16bit graphics engine Not sure why, but some transparency modes are actually slower than the old engine. Most likely flushing the cache a lot somewhere.
  • - Implemented background transparencies into new 16bit graphics engine (implemented incorrectly at the moment. Some transparency modes also is slower than the old graphics engine, but that will change in the future)

  • Too much to list on ZD, read whatsnew.txt

  • You can download ZSNES 0.600 from the SNES page.

Emulator Release: Atari800Win 2.4 news by zophar
20:18:  A new release of Atari800Win, an Atari 8 bit computer emulator for Windows 9X, has been released. There is a LOT new in this version, here we go:

  • Big feature: support for save states (also known as "snapshots").

  • Machine language routines here and there; small speed difference.

  • Atari crashes are much less dramatic now, as you don't have to exit Atari800Win.

  • Added 512x384 mode. Should help those on slow machines without 320 modes. Shows full overscan and on most cards has that "scanline" feel.

  • Completely rewrote the keyboard handler.

  • Keyboard templates option added (Options/Keyboard.. menu). This is a complicated feature for expert users, consult the README for details.

  • Keyboard joystick reworked. Now handles combination keys (numpad4 + numpad8 = diagonal up/right). Ignores your Windows key delay/repeat settings and works right off the keystroke (instant feedback).

  • Checkbox for "use AGP memory", which controls whether a surface is allocated as "local video memory" in Ddraw terms.

  • Fixed a problem with small graphics selector dialog used in 320 modes.

  • All full screen modes clear their backgrounds.

  • Bolder, more ambitious icons, less filling but taste great. Any icon artists out there?

  • Machine type and speed shown in window title (status bar in full screen)

  • Finally remembered to add keyboard click. You will notice a slight delay between the keystroke and sound, can't be helped at present.

  • Fixed a display bug that had crept in when in windowed mode with the display partially off the desktop

  • If you exit while running full speed, the next time you launch sound will be (correctly) disabled until you switch back to normal speed

  • Pause shows paused text on Atari screen (for full screen modes)

  • Fixed crash bug that sometimes occurred changing artifacting modes.

  • You can download Atari800Win 1.4 from the Atari 8bit/5200 emulators page.

Misc. News: ISP Woes & College news by zophar
04:42:  This is a 2 part post, the first of which is very important for everyone to read, and the second of which you can read but don't have to.

First off, any e-mail anyone sent to me, or anyone who used the submit news page to submit any emulator news, is out of luck, because none of it got through to me due to VoiceNet's stupidity. More on that at a future time perhaps. Basically, mail is working fine again for me now, so please re submit your e-mails/emulator submit news's, if they were important.

Second of all, I started college today. I already have about 150 math problems to do for Thursday, reading assignments in history, and I spent 140$ on books so far (and that's only my first day, and just for 2 of my 4 classes!) So basically, don't expect as many updates from me as you used to. Instead, my staff will be working hard to provide the same amount of updates that you're all used to. So fret not. :)

    That's all.

Emulator Release: XPCE 0.006! news by bnu
13:27:  XPCE is a new TG-16 emulator that's actually just a Windows port of an old TG-16 emulator that was called FPCE. The news are kinda strange, but as this IS a new emulator I encourage you to at least take a look at it. :)

    Here's the news:

  • XPCE can now run Populous. The name of the ROM should be populous.pce, otherwise won't run correctly. If you do a mistake with the file name, the title will appear badly.

  • You still can't use the Backup command.

  • Go get it from the TG-16 emulators page.

Utility News: New Utiltiy Section, New Utilitiy! news by grimmett
13:04:  I (and InVerse) noticed that the NES utilities section has become quite bloated with editors for individual games. Therefore, I added a new utility section: the Facelift Utilities Section. Go check it out, perhaps you might want to totally remake a classic NES game! Misc. News: Back from Reading Phillies game news by zophar
00:41:  Well, today I went to Reading, PA for most of the day to see the minor league Reading Phillies play. They lost, 5-4. The game kind of sucked, so I decided to liven it up a bit. This guy was trying to get a wave started, and tried three times and failed. So during the 4th try, he said '1...2...' and i pointed to the outfield and screamed out "OH MY GOD! IT'S MANUTE BOL!!!" I had the entire section I was sitting in, along with a section in back literally cracking up. (Manute Bol is a basketball player who used to play for the 76ers. He really sucked.) The guy who attempted to start the wave gave up and sat down.

That was the most fun part of the game.

Site News: Finally updated the poll! news by grimmett
    00:02:  I finally did a new poll!

The question from last question's poll was:

Are MAME betas being released too frequently?

Choice 1 was: "Yes, and I'm getting sick of beta releases."
It received 41 votes (27.9 percent).

Choice 2 was: "Yes, there should be less releases between finals."
It received 29 votes (19.7 percent).

    Choice 3 was: "I don't really care."
It received 40 votes (27.2 percent).

Choice 4 was: "No, they're doing the right thing."
It received 28 votes (19 percent).

Choice 5 was: "No, they should release even more betas!"
It received 9 votes (6.1 percent).

Personally, I can't wait to play the arcade Mortal Kombat and other 34010 games again =)
However, it is a strain having to put up a 2mb+ file every week or two on your site, and it's probably a strain for others involved with MAME, as well... I still offer my support and thanks to the authors of MAME, it's an incredible emulator that I play quite often!

Well, anyways, the new poll is:

What emulated system have you been playing the most lately?

Cast your vote in the Poll Section now!

This one does not support all options of NeoRAGE 0.2 yet, though.

    Here's the news:
    - Total Rewrite.
    - Added support for the new functions in Neo Rage v 0.01b.
    - Skipped cfg file. Now uses Windows registry.
    - Changed buttons....
    - Various bugfixes.

You can get it from the Arcade frontends page.

Frontend News: NeoRAGEFront 1.5.1 news by bnu
12:09:  This was actually released a while ago, but I'll update anyway :) This is one of the best and most regularly updated NeoRAGE frontends out there. Definitely the most regularly updated one, heh. If you have trouble with all of NeoRAGE's command line options I recommend you to use this one or NeoRAGE Frontpad.
The news this time is that it now looks for Zip files instead of directories, since NeoRAGE now loads Zip files and it now has support for loading ROMs from a CDROM.

Get it from the Arcade frontends page.

Frontend News: RAINEFront 1.1.0 Release 2 news by bnu
12:06:  RAINEFront, the really good RAINE frontend has been updated! The big news this time is support for zipped ROMs in the ZipRoms directory. Now you might be thinking: "Why the hell would I want a frontend for an emulator that has a GUI?". Well, you see. RaineFRONT only let's you select a game from the ones you have installed. It doesn't show a complete list over the games even if you don't have them installed.

You can get it from the Arcade frontends page.

Site News: Save Archives Updated news by alamone
05:07:  Well, I've posted all the new saves I've got since my last update. Some people are STILL not filling in their .FRM files properly, which results in slower updates because I have to weed them out. Keep in mind the HTMLs are updated automatically on the basis of these FRM files. Please double-check before sending them in.
See what's new at the CS0, GS0, SPC, STA, and ZST archives, and keep the contributions flowing.

Site News: Article #3 added to the Articles section news by zophar
23:56:  After 5 months of no new articles, we are once again updating the articles section! Our first new blood is JL_Picard, of Vertigo fame (and also helped ZD relocate to zophar.internexus.net about half a year ago, for those who remember). He has written an article on the effect flame e-mails and other negative feedback are having on emulator authors, and why it should be stopped.

Article #3: Sending spam/flames to emulator authors

Utility News: 2 New Utilities news by grimmett
17:47:  I finally gotten around to adding two utilities:

tniNES Update: This update fixes some bugs, and adds support for Unisystem ROMs and a few more fwNES mappers.
tniNES is a NES ROM manipulation utility.

MetEdit: Another kickass level editor! This nifty utility edits the levels in Metroid for the NES. I'd like to see an alternate Metroid game, so go have a blast with this!

These utilities can be found in the NES Utiltiy Section.

Misc. News: SwissAir Flight 111 went down. news by nitro
02:51:  As most of you may know, a jumbo jet crashed off the coast of Nova Scotia last night. No survivors so far, but we are hoping. I know this has nothing to do with emulation... but I felt we owed it to the people risking their lives to try and help the people in the crash.

    Thanx for your time.

Emulator News: Mame WIP Page updated with MK shots news by [noam]
23:56:  Normally I wouldn't do this (hi Dave!). But I have to make an exception.

The Mame WIP Page has been updated with early Mortal Kombat driver pic's. For those of you that don't the Mame WIP Page is located here.

Credits for the screen shot's and everything else there go to Dave of Davesclassics.

Site News: Stuff you should know news by zophar
23:47:  Hi people. Zophar here. Basically, there are a few things that I feel you all should know, so I'll post them right here.

    - Zophar's Domain's current address is http://zophar.malicia.com. Not http://milhouse.web-ex.com, or http://www.zophar.net(although we're working on getting this domain name back). Past addresses included http://zophar.internexus.net, http://silent.darkening.com/~zophar, http://www.ziplink.net/~shadow5 and even geocities! (Ewww). So as you can see, we've moved a lot, but we're still here after almost 2 years!
    - Tommorow is my last day at my full time summer job. But I start college this coming Tuesday, so it doesn't mean I'll have more time to work on ZD, but it does mean that my cash flow will decrease :/ Oh well.
    - Anyone who's interested in writing an article for Zophar's Domain, please e-mail me and let me know, we're looking for people to write some of their opinions and other things on emulation, because the articles section is being neglected and we could use some 'fresh meat', so to speak.

That's all. Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask.

Misc. News: Playstation roms now online. news by nitro
01:56:  I decided to put some PSX roms online for your enjoyment. These are however demo roms, and are freely distributable. These were only tested on the PSEmu Pro emulator for it can run demo's via the "Run Developer" command button, then clicking on "Load EXE" and then selecting the file, and pressing "run". For some reason, only 2 out of the 5 roms uploaded work so far, but, I hope some of you out there have some more legal PSX roms to add to this collection, if so, please drop me a message and i will get back to you about putting them up.

You can download the currently online PSX roms at the Playstation roms page.
