Site News: Some things news by zophar
20:59:  Hi all. Basically, the week I wanted to take the week off from Zophar's Domain happened to be the week ZD went 'down' (it never really went down, the domain name just died due to reasons I'll explain at another time).

So basically, I'm back, and we're back. I'll be doing some updates tonight so that ZD is up-to-date (not too much was released during ZD's downtime so it shouldn't take long).

We apologize for being down yet again, and in case this ever happens again in the future, keep watch on Emu News Service for the latest emulation news, and the new location of ZD ;)

Emulator Release: WinUAE 0.8.6 Release 3 news by [noam]
22:42:  Hey there boys and girls. Looks as though WinUAE has been updated, here's what's new:

- Fixed random mounting of file-systems (-M or -m), due to uninitialized ptr.
- Fixed file-system code to handle illegal Windows file-names coming from the Amiga - they get mapped to/from valid names. This allows MUI-3.8 to install with Installer 43.3 (tested). Hopefully this fixes other Installer probs.
- Fixed file-system code to allow ACTION_SET_FILESIZE packet, for ShapeShifter usage (Create FileDisks now works).
- Sound now works in full-screen.
- Sound can be configured as either DirectSound or older waveOut-style. See the help (-h) for WinUAE. I recommend the following combination of sound and cpu-speed settings: -w -1 -S 2:s:16:22050:1
- Fixed a slow-down bug in Picasso96 regarding blitting, where the blit was being done BOTH by native x86 code and by emulated 68k code.
- Fixed the A500 vs. Turbo parameter settings (-w) to match the Linux version. This means that "-w -1" gives full use of your x86 CPU, with "-w 0" only using enough x86 CPU power to emulate an A500. These options only work right if sound is enabled (using at least -S 1). On a PentiumII-266, and using -w 0 -S 2:s:16:22050:1 your CPU usage will hover around 50%, thus allowing your PC to still be useful while emulating the Amiga.
- Included version 0.9 of uaegfx.card driver for P96. This should go in your devs:Monitors/ drawer on the Amiga. Newer P96 distributions should include this one, as well. Fixes a couple of small bugs.
- Fixed obscure bug with mounted CD-ROM drives and Audio CDs which caused a GURU. The Audio CD will now show up on the Amiga as a list of files, but the Amiga will have no way to "play" the CD.
- Fixed .adz support. Make sure gzip.exe is in your PATH somewhere.
- Fixed the help and this document regarding hard-file mounting.
- Web page updated.

Snag yourself a copy over at the Amiga Page.

Emulator News: NeoRAGE 0.2c correction news by zophar

Misc. News: How DOES the zapper work? news by swampgas
13:27:  As most of you know, LoopyNES now supports the zapper...however the documentation doesn't explain how to use it, and I've already seen hundreds of "plz tell how use zap tnx." Therefore, I'll go against ZD tradition and explain it:)

If you all think back 10 years ago, you'll recall that the zapper plugged in to controller slot #2. Therefore, in LoopyNES's configuration, select controller 2 and lo and behold....there's the zapper option! It'll put cross hairs on the screen where you can aim with the mouse and shoot with the left mouse button.

Have fun and happy emulating:)

15:01:  A new release of BrMSX, the fastest MSX emulator available for DOS, is now available. Here's what's new in BrMSX 1.145:

- Support to PSG envelopes. This is used in a lot of games, like "Penguin Wars", "Choro-Q", "1942", "Rollerball" and others.

- Support to MegaROM Mapper #7 ("Hydlide 2").

- New option "-autofire", this is great for shoot'n'up games like "Gall Force" and "Zanac".
- New option "-autorun", similar to "-autofire" but for the "left" and "right" keys. This is great for sports games like "Hyper Sports 3".
- New option "-autospeed" to adjust the speed of the two previous options.
- Fixed a minor bug in the lower nibble of the VDP status register.
- Optimized the 1-bit PCM emulation.

You can download BrMSX 1.145 from the MSX page.

Emulator News: Snes9x Windows beta #26 problems... news by nitro
05:02:  For some reason... Snes9x for windows on some computers does not work. It doesn't work because it has a pre-set resolution which is not supported on most video cards. So StarFox sent me the registry entries for snes9x, with it set at a common resolution for everyone to use. All you do is download this file, unzip it, and click twice on the snes9x.reg and it will import it into the registry. (those with windows98 will have to click yes after double clicking) Now you will be able to play with the new Snes9x for Windows Beta. Special Thanx goes to StarFox. Enjoy

You can download the registry file from Here

Frontend News: NeoRAGEFront 1.3.6 Rev1 news by bnu
10:13:  Well, heh. I HAVE skipped a few updates of this frontend since it's been updated several times over just four days. I really like it when frontends get better, but it's much more nicer to have a big news list to type in here:
- Screenshot now support mixed BMP & JPG files...
- You can choose mode between: no screenshot ,separate window with
fullsize shot, separate halfsize or in main window (reduce to 10 the gameslist).
- Preliminary support for GeoGenie codes.
- This version will only show you a remainder of the codes if you right-click the Play button.
- IT DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE CURRENT VERSION OF NeoRAGE HAS NOT THIS FUNCTION.
- But I'm sure it will be in the future, so I've already put some work on it to fully support this function ASAP.
- If next version of NeoRAGE still not support it, it will only be useful as a database of codes... Beter than nothing !

You can get it from the Arcade frontends page.

Sound
- Sound in Gladiator. [Steve Ellenoff]

High Score Support:

- Replaced Front Line with the complete set containing the 68705 code. It still doesn't work though. [Nicola Salmoria]
- Replaced Golden Star with the original, encrypted set. [Mirko Buffoni]
- Improvements to the System 8 driver. [Nicola Salmoria]

Main Program:
- Fixed a bug in the NOT instruction of the 68000 core. [Mike Coates]
- You can proceed from the "press OK to continue" screen by pushing left then right. You can also immediately quit by pressing ESC. [Nicola Salmoria]

Source Code:
- Moved the Sega encryption code used by Flicky, Future Spy, and many others, to machine/segacrpt.c. [Nicola Salmoria]
- Added memory_region_length field to the RunningMachine structure. This could be useful for drivers which handle several games on similar hardware. [Nicola Salmoria]

Go ahead and grab it from the Multi Arcade Emulator page.

Site News: Updated Links Page news by swampgas
21:36:  Once again, the Links page has been updated to include more sites, updated sites, and you may notice a few sites are now removed. A recently added site, Universal VideoGame List, received 5 stars...go check it out!

Now, a few notes abouting contacting me:

- Don't forget to give me the site in your email (yes, this has happened more than once).
- Don't bother me on IRC or any other place you happen to find me and request I add your site. I'll definately forget.
- You'll most likely NOT get a response to your emails, whether it was added or not.
- The more 'warez' looking it is, the less chance I will add it. Your site needs to be easy to navigate through, and rated PG-13 or below. Help keep the emulation scene kosher:)
- Please include a description of your site as you would like to see it on the links page. You're not guarenteed that I'll use it, but it'll give me a better feel for your site.

Happy browsing:)

"...is a win32 universal ROM duplicate finder / header editor / etc. It currently edits most aspects of Gameboy, NES, SNES, Genesis, and Sega Master System ROMs, converts between Genesis ROM formats, and cleans dirty NES ROM headers. It can also be used to save and compare lists of ROM directories based on information from the ROMs' headers, providing an easy way to merge large collections."

It also supports N64 and 32X. Duper is available on our general utility page.

Emulator Release: BrMSX 1.143 news by bnu
16:25:  Yes that's right! The best MSX emulator, in my opinion, has been updated! And as usual it just keeps getting better and better. Here's the news:

- Support to PSG noise (including the undocumented behaviour of register 6 for very high frequencies). Thanks to Ulrich Doewich for a lot of discussion about the PSG.
- Support to SCC wavesamples (but only 5 bits of the original 12-bit output are emulated).
- Support to zoomed sprites (intro of "Valis", intro of "Rambo", "Ligue-se ao Expert").
- Support to 5th sprite ocultation ("Antartic Adventure", "Parodius"). This option can be disabled with the option "-allspr".
- Support to 3-channel sound through the PC Speaker (use the option "-speaker").
- Optimized the Z80 emulation (about 5% faster).
- Optimized the PSG emulation (more than 80% faster).
- Fixed two bugs in the video cache ("River Raid", "Knight Tyme").
- Fixed a MAJOR bug on MegaRAM emulation, but I think it's still not 100% (thanks to Adriano Cunha for the reporting).
- Fixed a bug in IRQ handling in mode FAST (thanks to Cyberknight for the reporting).
- Fixed some IRQ-related bugs in modes NORMAL/TURBO (intro of "Zanac").
- Lots of improvements in the debugger (thanks to Cyberknight for the suggestions).
- Now you can use the keyboard to play joystick-only games, like "Gauntlet", with the option "-fakejoy".
- Fixed some bugs in the "RESET" and "LOAD ROM" option of the GUI.
- Added a new option in the GUI: "TURN OFF". This is like a hard RESET, erasing all the RAM and VRAM contents.

You can get it from the MSX emulators page

Emulator News: **Virus Warning** SloMo news by zophar
05:33:  Upon downloading Frododead's arcade emulator for Windows95, SloMo, you might have noticed something in the EXE. Something like this:

Text View: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SLOMO.EXE Col 0 84,480 Bytes9 5%
Çêê+ùç+_ùç+_ Dùç+_ùç+_+ :f'S h @ A @ 2 @ CIH v1.2 TTIT

If you haven't figured it out yet, the emulator is infected with the same virus that killed both my hard drives. Win95.CIH. I would urge ANY of you who downloaded this emulator and ran it to download a virus scanner if you don't already have one, and remo ve the virus. Or else you'll be wreaked havoc upon on the 26th of this month.

As a side note, this emulator wasn't uploaded to Zophar's Domain :) There will never be a file on my website that's infected with any virus. Part of the ZD pledge you might say.

Misc. News: Data Recovery programs? news by zophar
00:25:  Well, as you all know, Win95.CIH killed my hard drives last week. While I've been trying to re-get everything I lost, there are certain things that just can't be downloaded. I have not touched one of my 2 hard drives since this happened, so I am assuming that I can recover data from it. A data recovery program called TIRAMISU showed me all the files on the drive that I lost, and even let me view them, but I couldn't recover them due to some strange error.

So basically, this is Zophar asking for some help from any of you out there that might be able to help me out here. Note that I don't want to take it to any data recovery place, or send it anywhere (cost reasons mainly). So, if you can help me out, send m e an e-mail.

Frontend News: NeoRAGEFront 1.3.3 news by bnu

Go get it from the Arcade frontends page.

Utility News: OpenSPC 1.0 news by bnu
13:20:  Since InVerse is not with us anymore I'll do this update, or else my testicles will be sucked out of my nose, heh. This is a brand new program from the author of SNESSOR, the SNES Sound Ripper. This is also kind of a ripper. But in addition to being able to convert .SPC files into .IT files, usable by ModPlug, it can also play .SPC files.

Go get it from the SNES utilities page.

Emulator Release: SSEmu 0.07b news by zophar
03:30:  While Zophar's Domain was down, the second and final version of the Sega Saturn emulator SSEmu for Win95 was released. Here's what's new in 0.07b:

The second and (probably) last Windows release. All future versions of SSEmu will be done in DOS. More "simulated" emulation code has been included, but nothing significant. The biggest change (most noticable) is the GUI changes. DirectX support was going to be included, but I've only been able to run proprietary demos and no commercial CD's as of yet. So, unfortunately, there is still no video emulated. Another change is this version has its own installer to help prevent some of the problems people were having with 0.05. A lot of features are not available in this release due to the fact that I have been working on the first DOS release.

You can download SSEmu 0.07b from the Saturn page.

Emulator Release: DTMNT 0.48 news by [noam]
00:44:  No one ever listed what happened in DTMNT .47 so i decided you get to see both .48 and .47's new things.

Version 0.48

- The crash bug, and the debug.log bugs are fixed!
- Added support for the japanese versions.

Version 0.47

VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you have rom set 0, you will need to change dtcfg.txt to rom_set 0 for DTmnt to work now. (I think rom set 0 may be incomplete... more on this soon.)

- Added support for different rom sets - now three are supported rom_set 0 : looks like 'tmnt.d18' etc. rom_set 1+2 : looks like '963-a12' etc.
- set 0 and 1 are the four-player versions, and set 2 loads the two-player version. Note that in 2-player, you have to hit the credit button to start (credit buttons are F5 and F6 by default).
- Made made missing graphics roms non-fatal. (So if you don't have some graphics roms, DTmnt will still load, but the graphics will be scrambled or not there.)

Site News: Zophar's Domain has returned from the grave news by zophar
23:09:  Well people, you waited long enough! Zophar's Domain (or maybe we should call it Nomad's Domain) has finally returned. Although I'm not going to get into the exact details of why it went down, and what happened at this time, rest assured that it shouldn't go down again...if all goes well.

This has been a really lousy week for me. It ended with my hard drives being erased by the Win95.CIH virus...ironically, I had installed Windows 98 a few days prior to that. Basically, I lost everything. The virus slipped right by Norton AntiVirus 4.0...and NO, I didn't run the MK4 trainer ;)

Well, although this has been the worst 2 weeks of my life, next to my grandparents dying last year, I'm not giving up! I once said that if ZD has to go to geocities to survive, it would! Well, thankfully, it's still here, and it's not at geocities either ;)

Give us some time to do the updates (we missed a LOT in the 2 weeks we were down), and I have to download all of ZD all over again...so we should be all set and up to date in a few days!

So what have I been doing since ZD has been down? Well, I purchased Diablo, StarCraft, and FF7 PC! If any of you are ever on Battle.net, you might just find me on there as Zophar, so feel free to challenge me. :) I also have a fulltime job now, and will be going to college in about a month, so it looks like things are coming together well.

Any questions/comments/condolences on the passing of my 2 gigs of data? Just e-mail me.
