Default VGM format v1.50; in_vgm v0.33

Check this:

http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewt...cea61cfabe2fe7

Now in_vgm has new support for the now more compact VGM v1.50. This means that now VGMs can be as compact as optimized GYMs. Here's the application to optimize your old Genesis VGMs:

So far I optimized my old Sonic, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles sets. So don't you think there should be a Sega Genesis VGM archive in this site?

It might be helpful to refer to the optvgm instructions before using the tool, or even the VGM logging/trimming guide it is a part of.

Is one Sega Genesis VGM archive site not enough?

On a similar note, is anyone ever gonna come out with a rippable Genesis/Master System/Game Gear music format!?

In the meanwhile, we have to stick to this good, accurate format.

VGM of course doesn't keep timestamps in the full system clock resolution, so there is room for a more accurate format. Whether this inaccuracy has noticeable affects on any music is not known.

Ripped formats (like NSF and GBS) in some ways can never be as accurate as logs, because the music playback code is modified slightly during the ripping process, and the main game code isn't running. The main effect will be miniscule timing differences that usually won't affect sound output.

A problem with logs is that any inaccuracies in the emulator used to make the log will be preserved. With a ripped file, improvements in emulation will benefit all current rips without any effort.
