Default SNES graphics editing

I started working on a new translation project - Chrono Trigger.
It is going great, about 10% is complete. But there is a problem.
I want to make some font changes, but I have no expirience in hacking SNES graphics, since it is very different from a classic NES graphic. So please give me quick help, or give me some tut about this. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I can't stand Java in any form, so TM is a non-option if you ask me. TLP and YY-CHR are my tools of choice.

Insofar as CT's font is concerned though, it's variable width, so there's probably going to be a table in the game somewhere telling it how many pixels wide each character is. If you change the font at all, you're going to have to alter the width table accordingly.

Woah, kick ass dude, you're gonna translate this? I wonder how different Square made it when they translated it. This is gonna be like that FF6 project the other group is doing. I hope all goes well. So far it seems you're doing great. When do you think you'll be done?

Are you serious? It takes people a year to do this kind of thing. How can it take only 2-3 weeks?
