Default Linux distro?

Does anyone recommend one for someone who's only been on windows? I'm just looking for something basic, but not completely trivial to learn

Do you know of any that put less emphasis on a GUI, and more on a command prompt?

Brad was kidding. Gentoo's definitely not for a beginner. I second Cornellius' recommendation for Ubuntu.

I'll third that. I'd probably be enjoying Ubuntu more, were it not for the fact that I'm trying to use it on Chihiro (possibly the only PC I've ever found that has passive-aggressive personality disorder).

He said he wants emphasis on command line instead of a GUI. I second Gentoo.

(edit: and when Gentoo makes you cry, go install Ubuntu )

I realize that I'll have to slowly raise myself up to Gentoo status. I'm up for it.
