Default hacked gb issues

I fully understand how easy it is to patch gameboy roms either with colorizer or lunar ips. And i can load roms. But ive tested 6 rom hacks and they either dont work at all, or everything is garbled. I tested them with 2 emulators including visualboy advance. Any help would be appreciated as id love to play color super mario land 2 or new graphics mario land 1.

Are you sure you're applying the patches to the correct ROMs? For instance, Super Mario Land: New GFX Edition specifies that you must use the 1.1 version of Super Mario Land. Use clrmamepro or ROM Center with the NoIntro dat files to verify that you're using the correct ROM.

The documentation for Super Mario Land: New GFX Edition also specifies that there are a lot of bugs in the colorized version and recommend using the black & white version.

The RHDN review of Super Mario Land 2 DX (which is what I assume you're referring to by "color super mario land 2") states that you have to reset every time you die or complete a level, because the graphics scramble. It also states that animations act "weird".

The problem is not a rom-patching issue, it's an emulator issue
What emu are you using?

Startup bgb and go into options, & choose exceptions
Select "Troubleshoot broken PD roms", and unselect all options relating to emulate as in reality.

Works fine with vba 2.3.2 as well.
Certain versions of VBA are set to work with GBcolorizer, while some aren't
The official version (1.7.2) is, while VBA-M (& those based on 1.8.0) may come up with the so-called glitched out graphics.

Use either bgb or the official vba.
