Hey, take it easy, man. I'm not out to crucify anyone. I'm just trying to point out that the purpose of a translation is to portray a game as accurately as possible in another language. Changing the "3" in the title would cause information loss, as the number 3 is pretty important to the game, its characters, plot devices, and underlying structures, and the way they mesh together. Changing the font would render a less-accurate representation of the game's original visual style. Thus, I'm all in favor of leaving it exactly as it is, as it is the most accurate representation of the original concept possible.

I was actually thinking about ripping that titlescreen and putting it in the English ROM for a friend. He hates the name Seiken Densetsu 3, so I decided to do him a favor. Never got around to it though, and he doesn't even play games on emulators anymore.

I never said steal. I said REPLACED. They didn't ask my opinion of it, they just went ahead and did it. THAT pissed me off bigtime.

And that was just a nickname. Besides, he's gone now. Been gone for over three years.

Default To Dark Knight Kain - Yay! I think...

I'd thought about transplanting the german screen into the english rom, but I don't know rom-hacking, period. I would've tried making a title design with Neil's font, but I can't find a ".ttf" of that anywhere, so I did "avatar.ttf" instead and I thought it looked snazzy. Hey! --> I <-- still play emu's, I'll be playing them in a nursing home when I'm old and gray. So... umm... uhh... ^_^; *shuffles feet* Would you really be that nice?

So how about it, wanna make a stupid fox happy? ^.^
I have Photoshop files, so background can be removed.
Text color can also be changed, it doesn't matter to me.
I just thought black-ish gray fit well against white clouds.

Yeah, and I came here... and I asked.
And I got bitched the fork out, too.

Replace / Steal, whichever it was, you were pissed that someone took something you guys translated and they put in their own title screen trying to pass the whole thing off as their own creation. I don't want to do that, and I couldn't even if I did because--> A: Neil's teams' names are credited in the char select menu and - B: I can't hack roms! I'm not God, you guys are. So when ya want something that's beyond the capability of mere humans, ya pray to God and HOPE a miracle happens (which they never do, you just get disasters instead)

I don't want fame, I don't want my name in a rom.
I don't want to take anyone's names OUT of a rom.
I'd just like some friendly God to make a title patch.

Look this is seriously such a minor consideration that it doesn't even warrant all this talking about. It's the damn title screen. I'm not saying your title screen doesn't look cool, it does, but its just not going to jump out and impress someone unless it's in the game already, and even then, it's still just a neat little thing. No one really asked for a new title screen for SD3 that I know of, most have been loving the translation in all its "Seiken Densetsu 3 as the title" glory as it was released pretty much (although someone's free to disagree with me if they feel like it) . If you want a literal translation of the game's title I do believe it is Legend of the Holy Sword 3, and Secret of Mana is Legend of the Holy Sword 2, so we could go back and change SoM's title screen to say that, and then, why not, go back and change Final Fantasy Adventure's title to Legend of the Holy Sword. I mean, everything already got fucked up by Square when they tried to cash in on the Final Fantasy name instead with the North American market with the first one. Or maybe the word Holy didn't fly with Nintendo's tightass censors. I mean we could make arguments with varying amounts of absurdity that SD3 could have been called any of a number of names in North America:

Secret of Mana 2
Legend of the Holy Sword 3
Final Fantasy Adventure 3 (ew)
Final Fantasy Adventure 2 (Ahhhhh!)

But the actual Japanese name of the game is SD3, so why not go with that? Furthermore, renaming the Secret of Mana 2 might piss off Square in the case that they wanted to further confuse people and use that name for another game in the future, hehe.

I think I'm making this post against my better judgement.

Default Let's have a Purist Party!

<img src=http://cmorrow.photosite.com/~photos/tn/373_1024.ts1131995909667.jpg>

A: I never said it MUST be changed to Secret of Mana 2. I made an SD3 one too because I knew there'd be name-change angst. I was trying to be nice and accomodating, I wasn't trying to rock your world or 'upset the balence,' some other dude said "Well blah blah, black looks crappy on white clouds" PSD's can be re-colored!

B: Okay yeah, 3 in the title, 3 kingdoms, 3 in the party... yeah.
Is there a hidden numerological significance or something?
If so then I guess there shoulda been a 3 in SoM 1.
If I remember correctly, SoM also had 3 in its party.

C: As if translating a game that was once japanese and playing it 'illegally' doesn't piss off Squaresoft as well? Isn't that why there's all those warning screens on arcade roms which say "If you are using this game outside of japan, you are commiting a crime and will go to jail" or some lame scare-tactic bullcrap?

D: Why would Square, after 10 years, decide to make and sell a Secret of Mana 2 when they're already busy working on Children of Mana for the DS? What are they gunna do, make SoM2 for the GBA or something? They've already ditched "Secret" in all further related titles but they kept "[insert word] of Mana"

<img src=http://cmorrow.photosite.com/~photos/tn/375_348.ts1132041181839.jpg>
Omigardz! That translator calls it SoM2!
You better go hang that dumb dirty gaijin!
I'm terribly sorry that I grew up in America,
where Bishôjo Senshi Serâmûn is "Sailor Moon."

And to Audigy, wtf is ass-burgers? Maybe I posted here, thinking some nice emu-Jesus would say "Sure, little boy; I'll help you." but instead I got a bunch of stuck up unwavering purists screaming about numerology and "Do it yourself, and if you do we'll just tell you how stupid and ugly your screen is anyway, f4gz0rz!"
