Default Video codec question

Is there an easy way to take a handful of AVI files and find out what type of compression/codec they're encoded with?

I ask because my DVD player can play DivX files, but can't play Xvid or any other video types, so I need to sort my video files out somehow for re-encoding.

well you can use a program called g-spot and that will tell you what codecs it uses<img src=smilies/thumb.gif>
