My personal preference would be towards a CRT, because they have better color, and pixel refresh rates aren't an issue (if money were no object, they aren't an issue in LCDs, but no flat panel has the same color depth as a good CRT). Resolution is also a concern. Most 19" LCDs are 1280x1024 (FS) or 1440x900 (WS) and that's the actual number of pixels in the LCD (so lower resolutions look fuzzy, because of interpolation), whereas CRT monitors can have better resolution (I'm running my 19" Philips monitor at 1600x1200) and scale to lower resolutions better (a key feature for anyone who is running emulated games, no doubt). It goes for just under 200 on Newegg.com, and it has fabulous quality!
The _only_ drawback is that CRTs are more susceptible to electromagnetic interference, but for most people that's not a problem.

You know that it's dangerous to have a speaker too close to a screen right ?

That's funny, cause my monitor has them built right into the Bezel beneath the screen. I guess they are shielded though, while the normal speakers aren't sheilded so much.

If you are on a budget get a good Samsung 19" CRT (if you have the space). But if you are not on a budget get one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001088. With a response time of 4ms it is very close to a CRT's 2ms response time...plus; it saves space, you can stare at it for hours upon hours without damaging your eyes and giving you a headache, its a Samsung which is a good thing, and most importantly it is widescreen. My brother has 2 of these and they are just superb, and I'm currently using a 15" Samsung LCD that just rocks.

Yeah, the magnets of these spearkers are shielded, and sometimes it's the screen that is shielded, so it won't affect the screen. These ones usually come with the monitor. Most speakers you buy alone are not shielded.
