Default Chatting - how many people actually still do it?

The IRC thread got me wondering. How many people actually still chat in chatrooms online. I remember when I was 16-24, I use to chat all the time. I never use them and cannot be bothered. I do not know even where to go anymore if I wanted too!

The do not even remember the name of the first chatroom I used. It was some html based one that you had to manually refresh every 20 seconds or so.

I then went on to IRC. I quickly grew tired of that.

Then I just chatted with random people who messaged on ICq (does that even exist anymore?).

Than i went with and stuck with MSN Messenger. I still use it today, about once every month! I do not seek out people because i do not care too. I have to many other things to do!

Also, what is with facebook and myspace? What is the appeal? I have coworkers seeking women!

I use IRC like, once or twice a year.
I only use Messenger to keep up with family.
I prefer to see the people I'm talking to in front of me.

usually i just chat with people i know, or for project management. in particular for every contact there is a proper reason.

the time to chat with completly strangers just for the sake of fun has stopped ages ago (probably when i was around 17).

I use some chat program (iChat, AIM, Skype) at least once a day, partially because I'm in a semi-long-distance relationship, but also because it's a great way to hold meetings with distant coworkers. I haven't used IRC for several years now.

I used America Online "chat" areas a whole lot, for hours, when I first was signed up for it in late 1997, at around my 15 or 16th year of existence. Once I overcame it, the desire never returned. Knowing my internet social abilities, this was very much for my own good.

Haha, an Anonymous?

I use IRC and a multi-protocol client every day.

I use AIM/MSN more (using the same program). I sometimes go on IRC though still, just not that often.
Just can't wait to bomb some Dodongos.
