Default HDTV worth it?

I'm planning on buying a new television which, at the moment, will mostly be used for playing games. I really want to get HDTV, but I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point. I found a http://www.hdtvpub.com/productdb/gam...25&searched=dodecent site</a> describing the various graphics compatibilities of different games, but I'm still unsure. Should I expect future games/consoles to be much more compatible? Is the gaming experience much improved by HDTV?

Check the AVSForum. You should be able to get lots of HDTV and game info there, even some instructions on playing PC games on HDTV.

Slightly off-topic: From what I've heard Nintendo's new "Revolution" system will have PC monitor hookup out of the box (VGA hopefully!).

As long as the games/consoles output hdtv, yes it is a big improvement over 640 x 240 interlaced crap.

If I was you I would look for something called "DLP" on your hdtv quest. I have seen lots of HDTV monitors and you can even tell which one is a DLP by looking at them from 30 feet away. The quality on those is that good.

Also see if you can get a "3rd generation" DLP. I think the max res for that one is 1920 x 1080 NON-interlaced. That surely will future proof your investment at least for a good while.

Every time I go to Wal-Mart, I oogle the discovery channel stuff that's playing on the widescreen projection HDTV they have sitting around...

other than that, I hear that Star Ocean 3 has a 16:9 option.

I'm definitely going to plonk down some $ on one as soon as I can afford it... I see no problem with dropping 2 grand on a television, especially if I can mount it on the wall.

Mmm, Beatmania IIDX in widescreen.... with component-quality picture... guh. *falls over*

We just got HDTV actually, but down here normal stations aren't shown in it yet, only the HDTV package (which is like 6 channels). However, the new TV we got after the old one broke really does kick ass. Games look fantastic on it. Just about any game with progressive scan capabilities will come out looking sharper on those kind of TVs.

Those VGA boxes are a total piece of shit. Nothing but a cheap line-doubler used on the S-Video signal. I want REAL VGA, bub. I'd be better off shelling out $50 on a Gamecube VGA cable.

It's about time for me to upgrade my home theater and television. My television's some shit Daewoo my mom purchased from Shop Rite a few years ago for like $70. It does its job and for the time being it isn't all that horrible, but I'd like to start watching my DVDs and playing my video games on an HDTV compatible set. As for the home theater system, it's a Panasonic SA-HT75, purchased from Wal Mart about two years for around $400. It's loud and plays VCDs and MP3 CDs, but it's starting to show its age. For one thing, it lacks any digital input or output and it cannot play SACDs. I'm probably going to sell it and use that money towards a more capable system.
