Default Multiple monitors in Linux via a remote X server?

This might seem ridiculous, but I was kind of wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to have say, a Gnome or Xfce desktop spanning three monitors, with the other two monitors actually not being directly connected to the computer, but to another computer on my network? The idea is to run two instances of an X server like Xming on a Windows box, which displays the "right" and "left" sides of my 3 monitor desktop, while the middle part is displayed from my Linux box...Yes, I know this sounds absurd.
