Default Got my first credit card!

Yes! Despite the advice of all around me I got a credit card. $1200 credit line, 16% interest after the first 6 months, nothing until then. So what do I go and buy the day after getting it? A psp for the g/f. Just out of curiousity, about what percentage would the minimum payment each month be? I am planning on paying about $100 a month until its payed off, so I am assuming that the monthly bill would be much less than that.

Yeah, that's what I use. Way too many people our age dig themselves into financial holes with credit cards.

After this I plan on only using it in case of emergency. So hopefuly I won't manage to get myself any more in debt than my student loans have already.

Funny, yesterday I dug myself into a financial hole with my debit card. My card used to be a joint account between me and my mother when I was a minor, and she sent me an email saying that she needed to take money out of my account to pay the electric bill, which I'd have been fine with, but she sent it with the same subject as a string of four others, so I missed it in the threaded view that gmail gives you. Therefore, I'm overdrawn about $19 across three transactions. That's $30 per overdrawn transaction, so $90 of overdraw fees, just because she couldn't send me emails with different subject lines so I can actually see them all and don't have to sift through a whole series. The worst thing is that if she told me my PIN number, I'd have been able to view my balance on an ATM when I went to the movie theater with my friends.

Luckily, since I had the foresight to keep my wits about me and call AM South's customer service oline to ask what to do to remedy the situation, I found out that the transactions happened on Friday, and as such they don't hit the account until late Monday. Therefore, I just need to deposit $20 (cash, mind you) into the account before 2PM on Monday and I won't be hit with the overdraw charges, thank god. The thing that annoys me is that I have a $250 check that I got as a graduation gift sitting on my end table, and I just haven't had time to deposit it. <img src=smilies/headshake.gif>

I had basically the same thing happen with my debit card when I got one, only I had no idea that money had been taken from the account. So I wound up with a -126 balance, and my debit card was deactivated. That was a fucking joy.

I would just like to make the point that I actually plan on paying my bill. And not buying anything even remotely expensive after this. I know very well the risks involved with a credit card, since several of my friends have gone and royally fucked themselves by using it to pay for everything, including paying for credit card bills with other cards. I'm going to keep the one card, use it for nothing but small things like books that I know I can pay back and that the interest won't murder me on, and leave it at that. Hell my dad is already worried he won't be able to retire due to his debt. I sure as hell don't want to end up in the same boat.
