Default I got the job.

I did. $52k/yr. 800 options. 15% bonus based on company performance. $2000 coverage for relocation. Employee Stock Purchase Plan and 401k with up to 6% match. Full vision, dental, and medical. Double-salary life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment. Arcade on each floor. 25-cent Mountain Dew. Free cereal, coffee, tea, and cocoa. $20 console games and $10 PC games at the company store. Lending library with every game made by any company for the GCN, XBox, and PS2. Booyah.

Indeed. After having actually objectively talked with a programmer or two (I personally know one of the most senior coders at Tiburon, anyway), I can pretty much assure people that the whole "omg bad hours" thing is totally overblown, and it's perhaps five or ten people out of the five thousand or so that EA employs who apparently didn't have a concept of what game development entails.

Yeah, I totally believe it. If I could have 10 minutes alone in a room with "ea_spouse" ... bleh.

When a team is under a deadline, you work your asses off, regardless of how close to "crunch time" it is. Having been part of a project-oriented team for the last few years, it's just a fact of life.

...now if they'd only make us salaried, hahahahaha.
It's quite a pain in the ass to cram 60 hours of work into 40 hours every week.
