Btw, does the immortality stuff have anything to do with the vanishing-when-slain thing? Qui Gon didn't vanish himself, but maybe he figured out (and taught to Yoda and Obi Wan) that the easiest way to achieve blue-ghostiness is to evaporate?

Did you play that with mplayer in Linux? I can't get the damn file to play in Debian *or* XP (file name ending in 2005 divx ac3 1.avi, size is 762177443). Mplayer complains there is no video stream - what the hell codec am I missing?

Perhaps. He was cremated like Vader is at the end of ep. 6. I just figured it had something to do with that because we see Anakin's ghost (now played by Hayden) a little bit later.

I always thought that Obi Wan and Yoda wanted to "become one with the force willingly", whereas Qui Gon was unexpectedly hit and killed by Maul, though he did live on a tiny bit more and could have done it then....

Nobody knows!

Btw, is it just me or does the desire for immortality with your personality intact (as opposed to just being reabsorbed into the flow of the Force or whatever) seem to go against the Buddhist-like Jedi teachings of letting go of personal desires and ambitions? Whatever happened to the "Death, a natural part of life is" acceptance Yoda was preaching? It seems particularly odd given that the goal of achieving mastery over life and death was shown in this movie as an example of the Sith hubris of attempting to defy the natural order of things.
