It's not bad, but they messed up a few plot elements and wrote in childish humor. I'd go with the European GBA version, really, the dialog is decent, there's a patch to fix the changed names, and I have a beta version of a patch to fix the hideous font.

Also, I cannot stand the voices in the original, I'd rather have the terrible English voices...

It's acceptable, but generally acknowledged to be deliberately inaccurate in some areas. I'd still take it over the official GBA translation, but other people don't agree.

Well, there's nothing wrong with dejap translation.

I was expecting the ToP GBA version to be better than the SNES. I am not disappointed with the graphics but the english voices gave me goosebumps. Throughout the GBA version, they use a font that is uncomfortable to read.

SNES version still rocks!

Seriously? I was expecting it to be awful. I was right too.

Haha...I think I was so thrilled that they FINALLY released it somewhere besides Japan after all this time I didn't think one way or another. I have to say though, font or translation non-withstanding, Tales of Phantasia is still a fun game on either system.
