Default Playing midis on an NES emulator

Anyone know of a way to play midi files through an NES emulator? I am aware of the differences between the formats, and am hoping to use this to my advantage. I have midi files I need to use for a homebrew game. As is, they have too many channels/notes played at the same time, as well as some other features that are not present in the NES sound chip. I am hoping to find a player that will essentially down-convert the midi files to fit the constraints of the NES audio chip. I have midi editors and plenty of NES soundfonts to play with, but I want to be authentic as possible.

This question would probably be better suited in ROM hacking.
