Drugs DO get in the way of your life. Stop trying to make it sound like you can be a drug user and still have a grip on things. It's the product of apathy, not of control. It leads to addiction, health problems, a diverse array of shit that isn't worth the risk for nothing more than a fix or a buzz. It's expensive, I've SEEN it destroy lives and relationships. It's not arrogance, it's intelligence. You can call it what you will, and as always, you can do what you want.

Hell, this is message board, I responded to a post with my opinion. If you guys are right, why get so defensive? To whom are you directing your justification? Me? Or you.

honestly, that's kinda ridiculous. It's like saying you can't gamble without having a grip on the world.

alcohol isn't that ba.. oh wait, i forgot, you said "drugs", not "alochol". It's funny because they're exactly the same.

fantastic, so have i. I've never seen, but, as i'm sure doubltess other's have, heard stories of gambling, sex addiction, and countless other things destroying lives.

i think you misunderstood my post, maybe it was this remark that threw you off, "you're all retarded and wrong." i was referring to both sides for getting overly defensive on the subject of drugs itself. i wasn't trying to justify anything for either side, but merely to point out that "doing" or "not doing" drugs doesn't make either better or worse just in the same way that "drinking" or "not drinking" makes you better or worse.

it's like there is some sort of line drawn in the sand, and once you try drugs you "cross over" to the dark side of the world never to return. The whole attitude is comprable to "twinkie eaters have no self control and end up fat and disgusting and lead horrible unhappy lives". Twinkies can lead to fatness... if you don't stop eating them.

i know many who would look down on you for your drinking, any probably giving you the exact speech you just gave me. Personally i've tried salvia once, i've tried pot a few times in my life. I drink occasionally. Cigarettes are probably the only thing i can say i've ever been truly addicted to. It's very suprising to hear you speak this way about substances, especially considering your fondess for alcohol, something that has been the cause of many ruined lives.

If you don't have strong will power or self control, it's probably a bad idea to "do drugs". It's the same way that you probably shouldn't buy frequently from the hostess store if you can't controll yourself enough not to reach for that second cupcake :P

Those would be fair arguments if there wasn't so much evidence to the contrary. If drugs are just as okay in moderation as alcohol, why are they illegal? Is it a conspiracy? They're not really all that addictive? Sure you can say that abusing alcohol is just as bad, but who's talking abuse? I've just been raised to believe that any amount of drugs is an abusive amount. Was I lied to? And if I was, why?

those are very good questions. i certainly don't have those answers. i guess i can only speak from personal experience and say that in one instance i've smoked pot 3 days in a row, then not again for 8 months without a problem (for no particular reason, i just didnt). pot just never was really a big deal for me, and i never really did it that frequently. i'm sure it's different for many people, so perhaps that's why, in my mind, it's far less addictive than alcohol.

I guess that's all we both can do then. Because, you're right, I come home and I have a few beers at the end of any given day. I drink wine with dinner in the evening. It's a part of my Irish-Italian life. I mean, I've heard more than one person say that drugs are just a cultural taboo... but it's also vague to just say "drugs". I don't necessarily mean pot. I know for a fact it makes people I know extremely apathetic (or contributes to an existing apathy). But God, heroin? cocaine? what reedeming qualities do these drugs have, even the slightest amount? I can't distinguish amoung them, but I don't really want to need to... better to stay the hell away from what is essentially poison.

Don't. It is a total mind fuck! Visuals are cool but it really fucks with you. I would just eat some shrooms and go and look at the moon. And you will look like this -->

Oh my GOD. Because people are ignorant and think that it will actually stop drug use, or safely keep "undesirable" people away from their children (it won't, and then they're released as hardened criminals). They were banned in the first half of the 20th century during several scares involving things like like patent medicines containing cocaine and/or heroin (this is true), Mexican immigrants using marijuana then getting violent and raping white women (patently untrue), and the concern among the rich, politically influential DuPont family being run out of business by the use of industrial hemp (so they started a smear campaign against marijuana to get it banned, thus saving money). The tyranny of the majority dictates that anyone who wants to legalize or regulate the market is "soft on crime" or "wants our children smoking crack".

> They're not really all that addictive?

There is no such thing as "they" when it come to drugs. All drugs are different. I would say someone who smokes pot all day has an addiction on the level of someone who just can't stop playing Everquest all day and sits around in their parents basement, while someone with a heroin addiction has a physical ailment that makes them sick and desperate when they cannot get high. Psychedelics are mentally exhaustive (the next day, you feel like you read a book about 50,000 pages long), and addiction is not common at all. For instance, I know many people who use psychedelic drugs, but I do not know one person who is addicted to them. There are drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, benzodiazapines like Xanax, and alcohol (haha!) which are quite addictive and can easily ruin your life or kill you if you abuse them, sure. Saying "drugs" are bad is like saying "milk" is a liquid.

Abuse is a subjective term, and indeed they do lie to you about many things involving drugs. To your average person who just believes what they're raised to believe and are taught in school, drugs may only be used for medical purposes. Politicians and law enforcement are expected by the public to uphold this view by whatever means necessary ("Just keep my baby off drugs!"), and their job becomes not to inform about drugs, but to prevent use. Remember, its Drug Abuse Resistance Education, its point being to teach people NOT to use drugs, not to teach people ABOUT drugs. If drugs themselves were on trial in court, much of the evidence against them would be dismissed as "hearsay". Marijuana is not 30 times worse for your lungs than tobacco. It actually contains less tar, and little if any nitrosamines, which are carcinogens present in tobacco that are the most responsible for lung cancer. Marijuana does not cause perminent memory loss. It impairs memory while you are on it, for sure, but not perminent. That's two things I was taught right off the bat by the good ol' government-sponsored DARE program that are not true at all, should I go on? LSD does not stay in your body forever. Dealers do not lace LSD hits with strychnine. Dealers do not give out free "lick and stick" tattoos to kids containing LSD to get them "hooked" (LSD just isn't that kind of drug.)

I figured some of you weren't total goody goody's and did
that kind of thing.

Not doing drugs makes you a total goody goody?

I'm never going to try anything stronger than your average headache pills, not necessarily because I'm a goody two-shoes, but rather the fact that I am a control-freak.

I don't drink alcohol or do anything that compromises my sense of reality and consciousness, I was very wild when I was young and I don't really trust myself enough to release my hold.

I remember last time I lost control, I was so angry I almost killed a guy. :\

You fuck. Who the hell do you think you are?

There's nothing wrong with trying drugs, or doing them. It's like drinking alcohol, and probably better for you too.

At least with pot and salvia it's not destroying your liver, or anything for that matter. All it's doing is messing with your system to increase your dopamine levels, or the other one (Forget the name, the symbol is ACh or something).

ACh is a stimulant, and dopamine is a depressant. Both work at the same time to keep your body at a normal level of health, and when you add a stimulant (Drugs and alcohol), dopamine is going to start being produced more to keep your body at a normal level.

This is also how addictions occur, you take it so much that your body adjusts to this new level and when you stop taking it in, your body says "Hey, where's my drugs?" and starts to go bonkers until it reaches normal level again.

And you think you're cool for telling me off about drugs. If you're so anti-drug, quit drinking.

I'm currently in school and have an 85% average, JUST so you know.
