Nintendo sues to shut down two big ROM sites

Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the operator of two websites serving ROM's of old Nintendo console video games, calling them a “brazen and mass-scale infringement of Nintendo’s intellectual property rights.” Already, one site, LoveRetro.co, has been taken offline.

The other, LoveROMS, has taken all of its Nintendo files out of the directory, reports TorrentFreak. Both are, according to Nintendo’s complaint, operated by the same person.

Very bad call. Seems they don't understand that blocking even tens of sites will not prevent piracy. But they are not going to stop.

I wonder if Nintendo decided to sue a random ROMs site, or if this is the result of escalation, as in LoveROMs decided to ignore DMCA requests. Because CoolROM was asked to remove Nintendo ROMs and they did, and I don't believe any lawsuit followed. Makes me wonder how emuparadise is getting away with their gigantic collection all this time.

Also, I do believe most of that catalog of old games isn't commercially available. Taking down ROMs that cannot be bought is a bit of an asshole move in my book.
