Default Humanity disgusts me.

I'm just sick and tired of what I see. People are only concerned with fucking from the age 21 on. From 30-60 it's working, fucking, and looking forward to retirement. You long from your cubicles to get drunk, and spend the next day vomiting in your toilet. You are shit.

I thought there was some hope that the gaming community would grow up with me. I thought, with being part of the generation that grew up with the NES, that maybe gaming would penetrate the public eye as a reasonable and acceptable pastime. I was wrong. You fuckers hit your 20s, and it's work, fucking and drinking. The only thing left of the "gaming community" is a bunch of fat ugly losers, and the PSX generation, who is a bunch of spoiled kids. The dream is fucking dead.

I want to pull the ethernet cable out of the back of my computer. There's nothing left for me on the internet. I'm awash in pornography and my favorite old games. I've sucked the marrow from the bone, and there's nothing left except a crumbling dream, a wasteland of kiddies with rich parents and the people who look to get rich off them. You're generation capitalism. You're generation advertisements. You took the information age and turned it into shit.

You have money. You spend it to get ahead. You've lost any acknowledgement of worth. You can't grasp fun, fun is dead, unless it's at the bottom of a bottle. You can't grasp asthetic beauty, unless you saw it on television and want to pay four payments of $29.99 for it. You don't know what love is.

You fall in love and fuck other people. This is considered normal.

The internet is dead. Welcome to the home shopping network. What can we sell you today? WE MUST HAVE MONEY. MONEY IS EVERYTHING. BOW TO YOUR DRUG, YOUR GOD. MONEY IS LOVE, TAKE IT WITH YOU WHEN YOU DIE. PLASTER YOUR NAKED BODY WITH DOLLAR BILLS AND EXPERIENCE BLISS. IT'S ALL THERE.

I sympathize with your misanthropy, but what the hell are you getting at here? Gaming is a useless activity. Gaming is for fun. The dream of gaming IS capitalism. You give your money to a corporation who produces artless works that you can escape into. It's all escapism. Game designers have occasionally produced art that expresses something, but mostly they have produced entertainment, escapism, and to actually BELIEVE in some kind of deep worth in this kind of thing is totally ridiculous. People like drinking and fucking because they're SOCIAL activities. Excess makes anything stupid, like I just had a bad experience where I drank far more than I intended to drank waaay too much, I felt like a fucking moron. And cheating, materialistic detached women are poison. Yes, I agree, but like it or not, the whole schtick of being a Nintendo kid was going to school, getting made fun of, having no social skills, and then going home to escape into digital worlds. Once people get into that "I don't care what other people think because I'm not in high school anymore" phase, they become more social, meet like-minded people, talk to girls, etc. Society is broken, but to just sit around playing games, games, games does nothing. Every second you spend on entertainment, whether its movies, games, or something else is a second spent doing something irrelevent to anything. You need to find some way to enjoy life in spite of how shitty it is, maybe accept irritating things you don't like about other people and just smirk to yourself, just so it's not YOU VS. WORLD every second you're awake. I bet if you met yourself, you would fucking hate the person you see, because you ALWAYS will find something that pisses you off, and if you dwell on it, guess what? You're never going to like anyone. Ever. People have forgotten how to love? Have you remembered? I love some people, hate a lot of others, I'll admit it, but what do you love? I'm imagining, and maybe I'm being presumptuous, you meeting someone, and then talking to them, and they seem cool...but then...they...did that...THING...one of the many THINGS that make you HATE people. And then anything they did up to that point is gone. The person can not be judged as a whole, only on the basis of that THING that you HATE.

Err - now i know why you got all pissed off when i said there should be a limit on how much people game!

Seriously though, life is not as bad as you think. I dont know what crowd of adults you are hanging around, but life is not all drinking, getting laid and getting sick and working.

People work because they have to. They need to pay their bills and pay for their house and car. When children come, there is not enough time for playing to commit to video games. As we age, we develop different interests. And no, not all the gaming community are losers like you say. My cousin still games BUT not every day and only a fe whours a week. Kids and ball hockey you see.

As for the internet - yes it has become commercialized. Are you really surprised though? Companies do what it takes to make a buck. That is part of human existance. You can still plenty of sites out there with free information.

Release your disgust! People grow and part of growing is finding new interests beyond playing videogames.

Eh...I'll be 80 years old playing my Super Nintendo...what will you (not you specifically but in general) be doing?

"Sorry grandson grampa's playing Final Fantasy 4, I'll play ultra hyper catch next time."

Also I agree, my group of friends (who are adults 24-32) don't sit around drinking and playing the crap that's on xbox/gcn/ps2. You'd be surprised how Super Mario Kart (and MK64) will dominate a party of all genders and age groups. We watch movies, play boardgames (trivial pursuit or monopoly for example), do LAN parties with games like StarCraft or UT (the original which is the best) or something that's not considered "modern", or bust out the SNES or use the DreamCast to emulate NES/GB/etc. If we do drink beer usually it's 1 or 2 with dinner before the movie starts or etc. We all are gamers...but of the older generation. I'd rather play FF7-10 with Final Fantasy 4 GFX/control/etc then even touch the PSX/PS2 editions for example.

So Kuik, NOT ALL HOPE IS LOST! There are a few of the good guys/gals left in the world...you just got to search for them.

There's a lot more to life than sex. And if you're awash in pornography, for the love of god stop downloading it. You're not going to download it by accident you know, besides perhaps the occasional pop-up ad that's just not kosher.

That being said, gaming IS a good past time, but there's also more to life than gaming in my opinion, although it's something I enjoy greatly.

As far as the working thing, unless you hit the powerball, plan on doing it your whole life.
As far as the rest....pull the fucking lan connection out.
You need to get out and experience life. It's way bunch more than you said.
And...not everybody is how you see them. You need to open your eyes and get a fresh perspective. Yours is way outdated.

Normally I wouldn’t reply to pessimistic rants magnifying the various downfalls of modern culture, but this one caught my interest for some reason; so, here I am.

In reply to:

Ouch, man. Maybe we live in different places (metaphorically). I see people discussing their thoughts and thirsting for knowledge and happiness. I see artists expanding into a whole new medium where the digital world allows us to transfer poetry, artwork and dialogue in split seconds. When I work in the factory over the summers to pay for school, I see hard working men and women bust their asses 50 hour weeks to go home and see their kids. I also see what’s bad in this world, but you can’t be blinded by it.

In reply to:

Ouch again. Many people accept gaming as a reasonable pastime. Since when we have to care about the “public eye”? I still play classic Nintendo, what “dream” are you talking about?

In reply to:

I want to pull the ethernet cable out of the back of my computer. There's nothing left for me on the internet. I'm awash in pornography and my favorite old games.

Pornography is always empty, but you have to remember that your favorite old games represent a time. Times change, and it’s a waste of life to dwell on the past the way you are.

In reply to:

Even the greatest cities of the world have some of the greatest slums. There’s still gold on the internet, I assure you… you’ll just have to look elsewhere.

In reply to:

Well, good rant. I hope you recover. Just remember you’ll never see the beauty of the world if you rub shit over your eyes.
