Default SMS Emulation

Hi. It's been a while since I've messed with SMS emulators. I was wondering, what are the current top two or top three SMS emulators out there? MEKAW and SMS Plus both look to be at the 'top'.

The best SMS emulator? I've really never seen a system like this with no clean-cut 'best' or even a few elite emulators. Here's a relatively short list of what I consider to be the best SMS emulators:

Dega (One of the few that can handle the 'Sega' sound before Sonic Chaos well. I don't like the unconfigurable controls or stretched-out GG mode though.)
Emukon
FreezeSMS
Gens Plus!
Kega Fusion (My current favourite.)
MEKA/MEKAW/MEKANIX (Probably has the best compatibility.)
Saya RXSMS
SMS Plus
SMS Plus/SDL (I like this one.)
Wakalabis

I guess what I'm wondering is what emulates the 'highest quality' sound and gfx for SMS and is also very compatible with games? Kind of like how PJ64 for N64 is the 'best' in both of those senses.

Considering that 1964 is the best in both those areas, I'm not longer sure what you're looking for. <img src=smilies/headshake.gif>

Okay, I guess it's debatable whether UltraHLE 2064 or PJ64 or 1964 is the 'best' emulator, but that distinguishes them from stuff like Corn & Nemu & Prject Reality etc. From what I've found, it looks like MEKAW and SMS Plus are the 'best'. Please advise if I'm wrong

I use Kega Fusion. It works with every game I've tried it with (I have about 30 SMS ROMs).

As do I. Kega Fusion is what I use since it plays most games just fine. But MEKA/MEKAW/MEKANIX have the highest SMS compatibility known.

I currently use Kega Fusion because of the better GUI, ease of use and compatibility with Windows XP (MEKAW works, but the Windows support is a little shoddy). Fortunately, the author of MEKA is thinking of dropping the DOS version altogether, and only making Windows and Linux versions. As soon as my e-mail server comes back up, I'm e-mailing him support for this.

If this does happen and MEKA becomes Windows-native rather than just a port from DOS, I'll probably end up using it a lot more.
