Nope.
He obviously doesn't own the game.
He was asking for something illegal.
End of discussion.

"Couldn't I just download the ISO files from somewhere or would I still need to have the disc?"

While I'm not going to argue the legality of downloaded ISOs (because it's a pointless argument that I'd lose), I was under the impression that the "No ROM/ISO requests" rule was one sprung from legality.

If we were seen to be linking to sites that supply illegal ROMs/ISOs, we could end up in some legal hot water. But refusing to help people because they happen to be using an illegal ROM/ISO with their emulator seems to be extending this rule to the ridiculous. The legal blame for downloading ROMs/ISOs lies with the downloader and can't be transferred to people who help with the emulation.

"Hey, I'm about to download this ROM, but before I do, which emulator should I use?" Oops, we can't help you, you're going to do something illegal!

Aw, now. Just quit getting sweet on me.
That's a nice twist on the truth. One I would have expected from Danoz.
Don't ask for ISO's.
If you want to help someone, that's your business.
It's not the boards.
Period.

He said "I put my halo cd". Now I am not sure if that cd is legit or not, but if he can't read it chances are it is.

Ummm, I didn't ask for a link to ISOs or anything. I just wanted to know that if I found an ISO ON MY OWN if I would still need my cd. And yes, I have a legal copy.

What? What the hell? Who asked for ISOs?!? (Note that I don't even know where to get any ISOs in the first place.) Saying "I'm going to download an ISO" isn't a request, it's a statement. He said he would download an ISO from somewhere, implying he had the means to or was willing to find the means.

If the topic had gone on without any interference, he may have ended up requesting and ISO, we may never know now. But I don't see any actual violation, just the possibility. Restating the rules would have been enough.

I thought he had the original in the first place. Isn't it legal to have an ISO of your own damned games for YOUR personal use?

No, if you have the ISO you won't need the disc. And I'm sorry for jumping at you before . . . it just looked like a ROM request at first glance.

Well, if it could actually emulate Halo, there's no reason you would need both an ISO and the disc (unless there was some kind of security-check that required the legit disc, but I doubt that).
