Am I the only one who doesn't like the Sonic games ? I think they're good games to play once in a while, but not awesome games.

To each their own, of course. I personally think that Sonic 3 is the best 2D platformer ever made.

I dunno. Super Mario Bros 2 gives me nice memories. I recently got Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night and I love it. I also never get tired of playing Super Metroid.

I always thought the gameplay was a little too simplistic in the Sonic platformers. I really do like the visuals and sense of speed, though -- they're games I like to watch more than I like to play.

Hm, I have never really considered them to be platformers, though in a sense they are. I myself wouldn't say Sonic 3 is the best, but it's still pretty damn good...my ex girlfriend would count Sonic as her favorite, either 2 or 3, I can't remember.

Haha, awesome....I myself was almost taken in, but something seemed wrong about it, such as: Why on earth would they need the 32x for this? The title screen....text at the bottom just seems cheap (where it says Special Edition)...and the FMV in the loops...oh god why (didn't even look good either lol)? <img src=smilies/retard.gif> Anyway, sweet remixes anyway....I wonder where they got them, or if the fella made them himself?

Look at the ring texture on the floor. Its in this version at the start of the heightmap! Makes me want to know if there is more in this demo.

Actually, some time ago the programmer said that that graphic had just been put in as a placeholder. It does appear, however, that they found the geometry for the Metal Sonic boss hidden in the demo. Maybe other things will turn up as well.

When they tracked down the programmer of the Saturn version of Xtreme, they found that she* still had some builds of her own. The one we have is likely from sometime around June/July '96, but the project didn't stop until late August. The shots you are seeing on that site were taken by the programmer using SSF on a presumably much later build of the game, which unfortunately she will not distribute.

It's kind of a shame that they weren't going to use that really cool pre-rendered Sonic sprite. When asked about this, the programmer said that she concluded that it was actually faster to draw Sonic with polygons than it was to decompress those sprites from VRAM, and it saved space, too. Also, she pointed out how they were using a weird rendering bug in the Saturn to make Sonic's eyes almost perfectly round even in close ups, with only 1 poly being used per eye.

*in an interesting twist to all of this, it turns out that this programmer had a sex change sometime after the project was over. Christopher Coffin became Christina Coffin. Trouble is, it's confusing as hell when referring to him/her in the past tense while talking about her time on the Xtreme project.
