Lemme tell you a little story about my dad.

He's worked as a stage hand, and one day, he was moving some heavy metal grating. He slipped, and the stuff was razor sharp, so he got a pretty decent cut.

The wound started looking infected, but he didn't think much of it. A few days later, BAM, full blown staph infection and he's on the verge of death.

Don't fuck around with this stuff. Those little bacteriums can chew the Jesus right out of your system.

Look man I can understand wanting to show off your cool gash, and it is a cool one, but if you need to ask whether something that's red and has a bunch of pus needs medical attention...You had very bad parents who didn't teach you a lot about the world.

Agreed. You shouldn't even have to ask. Only a pussy spends his hard-earned money on medical help. Suck it up and take some Tylenol. Besides, humans would have died out long ago if they couldn't handle a little bloody, pus-oozing infection.

Yes, I know my sense of humor is a bit overboard. And, well, evil. TOUCHE.

It's funny because it's true.

I refuse drugs of any sort unless it's absolutely imperitive that I take them. If it's just a matter of dealing with the pain, I'd rather tough it out. This is my main reason for not immediately seeking medical attention. Doctors never really do anything but load you up on drugs. I could do without that.

Whether you were joking or not, that's actually a good point. I'd rather encourage my body to develop its own cures and fixes than to rely on drugs and medication to do it for me. The human body is a very resilient thing when given the right amount of care. In the long-term I think it'd be healthier to let my body deal with such things than to let it become dependent on ingested antibiotics and such.

I've been cleaning it multiple times a day and covering it with fresh gauze each time. It seems to be helping it quite a bit. It's still a little pale and discolored in some spots, but I think that has more to do with the skin being in the process of growing back (there was a big chunk of it ripped out).

Changing the gauze is kinda gruesome, though, since the cotton string in it sometimes gets stuck in the skin as it heals over it.

Don't take the risk. Run over to the urgent care and get the damn thing examined. You're clearly concerned about it (hence the use of the internet, the digital camera picture, and the many followup posts to this thread). However, I can't even begin to imagine why you chose the diaries section of a classic video game emulation forum to ask this question about your physical health.... it's like going to the ER with an romhacking question . Even so! Get it looked at.

You need to watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133189/SLC Punk.

I'm reminded of the part where Heroin Bob punched that mirror and messed up his hand, and refused to go to the doctor. "He didn't do anything about it, he just wrapped it in a dirty T-shirt"
