Your clue would be the error message it gives you (in regards to how you fix it).

Obviously you don't have SMILE software, SMILE doesn't support NTSC. Well not the one I have....

Simply stating I need a rom of super metroid without a PAL is like saying you need an snes cartrige, that's it, dammit you need PAL, the problem is my SMILE editor is outdated, which I discovered simply by another answered who is obviously smarter than you. It is also obvious your not a hacker because you don't Jack the government, you hack they're systems, and hacking an ATM is easy btw, but it lands you in jail, simply hacking a rom is easy, all you need to do is patch it to be safe. And hacking the government is like hacking space, it is almost impossiple considering if you live in America the government is you and you are the citizen, in Germany the government was your fuckn king. Hacking roms is much much easier than an international conjuction. ( like a freeway) It takes luck and a skill set way above yours and mine.

Obviously *you* don't have SMILE because SMILE *only* supports NTSC. If your copy of SMILE is informing you that it doesn't support NTSC then what you have is a trojan, not a level editor.

You're full of shit. I downloaded SMILE directly from the author's web site and the most recent version does not support PAL ROMs. In fact, I'll attach a screen shot so everyone can see just how full of shit you are.

Okay, merging threads/posts as they were about the same damn topic.

McJockman, I'm going to try to explain this the simplest and best way that I can, so listen closely. The rom you are grabbing off the cartridge is going to be PAL. PAL versions of games tend to store its data differently than NTSC versions. SMILE was designed for the NTSC version of the game, and thus it won't work with the PAL version of the game. You want to hack the PAL version of Super Metroid? Fine, but you can't do it with SMILE, but since you clearly state you are a ROM hacker, I am certain you won't have much trouble finding documentation on the NTSC version of SMILE. Actually, a quick search pulls up this. Now that you have the info, feel free to make your own PAL version editor. Either way, you have 2 options here.

1. Admit that you aren't a rom hacker and you are just some kid that wants to edit Super Metroid.
2. Actually do what I suggested and make your own editor. Shouldn't be hard for an awesome hacker like yourself, right? You have one month to release it and/or show us some progress on it getting done. If you don't, I'm going to ban you.

The choice is yours.

(oh, and I expect a reply to this in a couple of days)

EDIT: Oh, and if you attempt to make another thread about this again, I'm banning you.

Red face I'll go with option 1, I am a kid only 17

Yes I want to create my own Super Metroid 'hack' and I never said I was a rom hacker, your an adult and I will just go with what you said, the information I got about the NTSC not working was from someone else. Your the nicest to me yet, I'm not luring about being a psp hacker but about other things maybe yes, let me start over:

Hey, I'm new at hacking Super Metroid, I have the SMILE editor, but I'm not sure if it is a Trojan or not, I'm willing fir correction and POLITE help from anyone who can help. I'm 17 born in Germany with an American mother and German father 0.0 (no joke) and moved to the US back in 08. I will not post about this again, I will continue to ask for help on this thread if needed. I'm sorry for sounding like 'shit' and I hope not to be that way on this forum anymore. I really dug myself a deep hole on this, and I'm willing to climb back out, But I'm going to need some help.
Thank you.

If you got it from Jathys' site, then it won't be a trojan (barring his site being hacked). SMILE only works with the NTSC version. Most rom dumps of Super Metroid will have (JU) in the filename, pointing towards NTSC. (E) means European, meaning PAL.

It's also possible that your dump may not be "accurate," but in either case you'll have to search the internet for an NTSC rom, or get a hold of an NTSC cart and dump that.

The file hosted here most definitely ISN'T a trojan, if that's what you're saying (I even checked it just now to be absolutely sure, on the off chance something had happened to the file).

Also...why on Earth would you ban him for not creating an editor, Brad? Chances are you'll forget in a month's time anyway even if you were serious. At any rate, everyone calm down. The text as large as the page isn't needed either, stop it now please. I wonder if people realize they are flipping out over something like hacking Super Metroid. Metroid is awesome, but come on people.

The reference to trojans stems from me stating that if he had a version of SMILE that requires a PAL ROM, as he was suggesting, then it was fake.

But it was needed. It was emphasizing a point that had been made multiple times but he had completely missed to the point of creating a second thread asking the same question. I was making sure he saw it that time.

That's not it at all. It has nothing to do with Super Metroid. It has to do with the sort of general obliviousness that causes 90% of the world's problems. On a side note, it has to do with people claiming to be a hacker when the aren't. (Not a ROM hacker, a hacker. If you go back to the original post, you'll see that he brags about hacking a persons multiple times.)

Actually I did once and I didn't claim to be a hacker, he was helping me Super-Hack my psp ( he lived in the UK with me for 1 year) Or well I lived 3 blocks down. Doesn't matter, thanks to Linophis I got SMILE working, or well found a cooperative rom. (JU) I messed around with the coding, found a way to make Samus smaller, but not bigger Very simple coding though, so not impressive to you guys. Thanks for all the help.

I swear, some of you guys around here have this elitist personna that reminds me of watching the movie High Fidelity. It sticks in your craw that when people see you on the sidewalk they don't say "omg honey LOOK! it's.. InVerse!! The most bestest hacker evarrr!!" and tremble in awe of your genius. And you wonder why people tend to shy from this place. Romhacking is an art. But still nothing more than a hobby. And certainly nothing to get your choda all choked up over
